I think that Jonathan’s reaction to getting fired was meant to be, “Guy who has never had financial stability taking getting fired differently than woman who has never been taken seriously.” She is pissed at them, rightfully and to a degree he can likely appreciate, but his first visceral reaction comes from a different place and the fact that she likely doesn’t even need to worry about that angle at all probably just frustrated him more. That said, he also was right to apologize for making it all about him in that moment.
Exactly. And financial trauma is trauma just as much as sexism is. They both needed support but they couldn't do that for each other because they were both being triggered at the same time. (This is why they need their boyfriend Steve to round out their dynamic 😌)
Nancy's had good bits in other seasons, but after this chase scene in the hospital, and the subsequent handling of Bruce, I'd love to see Natalia Dyer as a final girl in a horror movie.
i love it so much that joyce misses the throw it feels so accurate to real life. it gives me the same satisfaction as when archers run out of arrows in tv and film haha
Joyce's gun toss is understandable; panic can mess with your aim. I met a forester once who told me a story of one of the newest loggers at camp encountered a little black bear in the woods. They all carry these firecrackers called "bear bangers", so he pulled his out and threw it... at the bear. It landed on the opposite side of the animal, and when it went off the panic bear ran towards him instead of away. The bear ran right past him, but the story goes he had to go back and get a change of clothes after that.
Only unrealistic thing in this episode was Nancy saying "Buckle Up". This was the 80's. We never used seat belts in the car until 1991. And that was because my Dad's new Toyota had automatic sliding shoulder belts. Same with all my friends and family. And in the summer you rode in the bed of the pickup truck. Good times.
10:19 - Somehow your very, very mildly pleased statement "oh nice...7-11" was the perfect reaction to the show's dramatic reveal of what Alexei was running to 😂😂
Wonder if they used the name Smirnoff as a homage to Yakov Smirnoff, the comedian who emigrated to the United States from the then Soviet Union back in 1977.
Arianna your reaction to The Last Samurai made me cry with you. I think you should watch, 47 Rohnin. It's a great movie. Maple, I love your reactions too. ❤
as soon as she said that I knew the comments were gonna explode haha. also I haven't seen the SpongeBob movie but I have to assume an implacable motorcycle riding villain could've been based on the Terminator...
This is like my favorite show ever, but one criticism I have for is the fact that over the course of the show, people are constantly getting killed, and outside of the main cast, there's no acknowledgement of it. You could say all the deaths at the lab could be covered up, but what about the people at the hospital, the flayed, Barbara, the missing hunters, etc? A lot of bodies for small town in such a short period of time.
I don't know if gas stations had bottled water in 1985. But, you would think they would go for juice or a slurpee to quench their thirst over grabbing a Coke.
Gen-x'er here, yeah they did, it was exactly summer 1985 when they started selling them. Where I lived it was those small 8oz bottles for 80 to 90 cents each, but drinks were bigger at the same price.
I know it sounds horrible, sweethearts - and I'm sorry for saying it - but y'all's disgust at gross stuff is so very entertaining. Particularly the more gruesome aspects. Never seen anyone so squeamish as you two. But it is adorable 😂 🤣 😉
I know the Duffer brothers' whole shtick is "borrowing" from literally everything, but this season lost me with the blatant Russian Terminator subplot.
Yes, well, children are much more likely to watch SpongeBob than Terminator, and I think people generally start off as children before they become adults.
