Awesome!! Love the edit, Hopper is what made/makes Stranger Things for me and this portrays his character perfectly!! Great work!! If it were a commercial it'd be a massive hit!! Tweet Netflix!!!!
aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh OMG!! I LOVE THIS!!! It's just what I needed fhalkñfadfkdhgdlhgdsfk damn the editing!! Hands down. The parallels killed me and that sync with the song at 1:10, soo amazing! I'm so glad you did a more light hearted tribute to him, and still there was so much heart and a bit of sadness on it, perfect!
Sara!!! OMG. Thank you so much! I’m very happy you enjoyed the video! Oh you noticed the 1:10 bit too I’m so glad haha. I’m real happy about that one. :) Yeah the video was definitely really fun to make, I honestly love the humorish side of him so much. It hurts so much to see him so sad. :( I can’t wait to see what you make with the new season! Your stranger things videos are always so perfect. :)
2:12 through the rest of the song has to be the best thing I've seen in a long ass time holy wow. Honestly, absolutely amazing. Love this tribute to Hopper.
Oh hell yeeeaah. I love this so much Heather!! That's exactly what i needed this week, immediately gets you into a good mood. Thank you so much for putting together this little masterpiece and letting king Hopper shine, bc he's just the best ;)
you honestly became one of my favorite editors, everything you make is SO good!!! just the scene choice and the voicovers and the songs, and you always balance between the humor and the dark parts in such a good way... this video is a joy to watch, i have no idea how you do this but please never stop♥
i love this so much!!! how are you able to get such high quality clips? every time i try to screen record i either have to pay for the software/the clips are bad quality
Oh my god Heather!! I loved this so much. I love the 'don't care but whatever vibe' Hopper begins to take on in S3 and you've essentially captured that all in one video, WITH SICK MUSIC. I love this so much, added to my favourite edits playlist ❤️❤️❤️
New month, new comment. Only fair since I've watched/listened to this video too many times to count and enjoyed every replay...and I've only just started Season 2! Similar to Barry, ST is another show I made the mistake of looking up spoilers for before watching it in full (didn't stop me from enjoying Season 1 though). And while you have 3 other ST fanvids I still need to analyze, this one stood out for one simple reason: the musical choice is such a contrast from the sad/scary tones of the last two vids of yours I commented on. Nothing wrong w/ a bit of variety as the year nears its end, and if I had to sum up my entire reaction to this particular fan video in one sentence look no further than 0:56 Yeah who am I kidding there's no way this comment is ending so soon. Let's get this started and get the listed points outta the way first! -once again your syncing is pretty much absolutely on point, especially when combined w/ the sounds and sights of Jim "You Don't Mess With" Hopper attacking all manner of foes; standout moments include 0:58-1:02 and 2:28-2:29, the smoothness shows just how dedicated you were to making sure that each clip fit their respective "mini-montages"...plus the way each physical attack "punchtuates" the musical beats is just an audial wonder to behold -some of your transitions are similarly smooth, the first one of which would have to be of Hopper holstering his revolver (1:03-1:04) w/ that blurry effect that reminds me of a fuzzy VHS tape (is that supposed to be an 80's reference?); the second one would have to be 1:22-1:23 b/c...I dunno, the sound of the carnival worker pulling the lever combined w/ Hopper wrenching his door open just FITS -1:55-2:01, this sequence was not only gorgeous but combined clips from all 3 seasons in a quick and stylish fashion (from the alternation between Hopper giving the 1-2-3 count to Grigori and him checking the field or holding a baddie at gunpoint)...but that's not even my favorite part of these several seconds; that honor goes to you making it look like Grigori's counterattack sends Hopper all the way back to that "couch recovery" scene from Season 1 (complete w/ fizzy VHS blur effect again!)...before capping it all off w/ a black-and-white to color transition, is that supposed to be representative of Hopper "waking up" to the reality of his situation when Grigori punches him in the Russian base? (A.J. Jackson going "Oooohhh" at the same time is just synchronized icing on the hypothetical editing cake) -0:33-0:34 (talk about a great way to "kick" off the lyrical portion of the song, not to mention including Callahan complaining about it); excuse you, PHIL, but sheriffs have no time for doors, especially the ones that mess w/ Jim! -I won't go into detail about why I dig the "Bad Lip Reading"-esque moment in 1:09-1:10, but now I'm kinda hoping to see that in more of your vids (or maybe you've done it in others I just haven't watched yet, that's also a possibility) -the eyebrow raise moment in 1:07...minor criticism, but I feel like it could've been synchronized better w/ the moment Hopper raises his brows at Murray matched up w/ the second trumpet blare; every time I watch that bit it stands out to me, but of course that's likely my biased opinion and junk getting in the way again -the contrast of Murray's line about Joyce and Hopper's "lover's quarrel" playing over the clip of them holding hands in the carnival ride...funny and heartfelt indeed -2:30-2:33 (from a rubber band to a machine gun, from a terrible mayor to oncoming enemy guards...no matter the situation, Hopper's aim remains true!) -love how the video starts out w/ Hopper referring to himself as the chief of police in a "no-one's stopping me" tone (you know, the stereotypical cop who just couldn't give a drat), only to hesitate or or become less authoritative when naming himself over the phone or at gunpoint; even early on in this fanvid, we as the audience can tell that's he's no walking-talking-Murray-mocking cop cliche I can't tell you how many times I looked through the lyrics of "My Type" trying to find a quote-on-quote "deeper meaning" to how the lyrics connected w/ Hopper as a character...but I think it all comes down to what you said about it serving to show off the best of his badass and funny moments, as well as those scenes that combine the two (helped along via your editing, of course). Even when under attack by a Russian assassin or sneaking past enemy guards w/ a smile on his face, we get a sense of the goofiness that lies just under the surface of his tough-guy demeanor. Especially when Joyce is around, which brings me to my next point... You remember what I mentioned about your transition/syncing skills? Obviously there are too many favorite examples to choose from but the one at 2:27 (w/ Joyce turning the key and Hopper waking up all a-gasp), isn't just great b/c of those reasons. It seems to take the relationship between the two of them and boil it down to one idea: after all their experiences together earlier in the show, Joyce ends up activating the "switch" that made Hopper more willing to be a more sociable person. I know, it's probably more complex than that, and given I have more than 1/2 of ST to watch I wouldn't be surprised if I'm missing important details that argue to the contrary. Having that transition late in the video...after the clips of them arguing, or Joyce questioning Hopper's new shirt, or holding hands is makes for a great conclusion...especially as cap-off point to the section of this vid that covers the bridge of "My Type." Speaking of which, yep cue not-so-epic paragraph transition! Look, I'll be honest: I'm normally not a fan of bridge sections in songs that consist of no lyrics, especially if the same or similar sounds are repeated over and over (lacks creativity to me in most cases). Always exceptions to that, but you know how it is. That said, 2:11 all the way to the aforementioned "Joyce hits the switch" transition is especially haunting and the repeated ooohhs only add that spooky atmosphere. Whether or not Hopper is talking about the Upside Down or his own broken past sucking him under, I get the same reaction as I did watching the creepier or more darkly atmospheric clips from the IT and Barry vids (respectively). Chills and sadness in equal measure...kudos to the billions to you for being able to implement such a haunting section into an overall stylish and upbeat video! I could probably go on, but it's late and I still need to catch up on ST as well as the rest of your RU-vid fanvid library. Plus I could do w/ the practice of learning to write shorter responses; it'll take time time but that's what the aforementioned episodes and RU-vid videos will come in useful for. Thank you for making this absolutely fantastic custom music video of everyone favorite Hawkins chief of police, I genuinely hope to see you add more character-driven videos to your ST playlist (Steve comes to mind, for example). Hope you had a great All Hallows and stay solid!
hey! first of all: the video is great and it fits Jim Hopper 100%. How do you find all these songs in your edits? I mean the song fits the character exactly and I'm wondering how you get these songideas. I'm and editor too and in my opinion it's the hardest part to find a song which fits to my plans. I hope you'll give me tips, thank you (:
Thank you very much! I actually don't have any special way of finding songs, haha. I just listen to a ton of music, and I mean an absolute ton. So I have a big library of songs on Spotify I've gathered for many years. I'll just go through it and listen to some things and see if it would fit. I also hear songs from other editors/movies/tv shows/commercials, etc. :) My advice would be to just spend a good amount of time going through some artists you like and find similar ones to them.
Incredible work on this Heather! as soon as i saw you uploaded a hopper vid iknew what i was about to witness was gonna be epic and i was right it was epic as hell!! you really told his story very well in a fun way which i really liked. keep up the amazing work:)
Oh my God, not sure how I've only just seen this but wow. This video is the Ultimate Hopper video. Good freaking job Heather! I'll be listening to this whilst running lol. Edit: This has to be seen by David Harbour!
This is brilliant! Like I would never imagine a video with Hopper and this song, but now when YOU've done it, I'm so happy it exists :) If I would have twitter I would totally tweet it to David (if he has it?) He should check it out :)
The Queen of editing has made yet another masterpiece yet again, Google it's gonna wonder why my history is just constant amounts of links to this video haha heather you really are the best editor on RU-vid no one can ever top you
To be honest I thought Season 3 ruined Hopper's character a bit. But this video really highlighted what's so good about the character. Really love the scenes you chose the parallels, the sound sync, and especially that Saint Motel song. Great work as always Heather! Can't wait to see what you're working on next :)
Thanks Jason!! I’m glad you like it! :) Yeah season 3 hopper felt really different but I still had a ton of fun enjoying his character arc, especially him and Joyce. I was laughing almost every scene with him.
