There are 2 possibilities for that empty space under the hotel room 1. A maintenance shaft to check out on wooden crossing and receptionist was simply a b**** 2. A possible collection/drop point for smugglers visiting the hotel for "business" reasons and receptionist was trying to hide the truth.

it is for pipe access. they don't want people to know that it is there because it is none of your business. not trying to be rude but at what point is is the problem of the customer of how the pipes are accessed during winter or for maintenance?
@Connor-kn8iz
@Connor-kn8iz 4 месяца назад
As a plumber it is a crawl space for pipes and cables, I’m guessing from the video she was in the bedroom so there is no need for pipes in the living room because you have no water outlets, however you only have 1 entrance/ exit so that will be it

I have a door in my basement that leads to underground tunnels used in the prohibition era. The apartments I live in used to be a hotel with a speakeasy in the basement. There are stairs that lead to nothing now and possibly a trapdoor under our living room carpet. History is fabulous to say the least

Loved This ! back home in Charleston, SC, I was walking across a draw bridge I had walked over many times before when I noticed a green and rusty square of metal in the sidewalk that I had ignored and walked over may times before. But this time, we had just had a heavy rain and windstorm that exposed that there was a folded down handle on the top of the plate. I stood staring out over the river until the guy in the bridge tower looked away and dropped down into it. I started climbing down an iron ladder and soon saw that I was within one of the main support columns. I arrived in a concrete room with a large metal desk and a chair and an open wall, exposing the giant gears that made the bridge draw and close. There were also some big cans around that had once held grease and oil. Then there were some steps leading down to a platform exposed to above the river with a railing, but you could never see it from the water unless someone leaned over. From there , another iron ladder going down to the base of the column where you were down near the river and could very well fish from there. I told a couple of runaway friend about it when I was about 16 and they stayed there for a couple of weeks.

A most interesting tale. With that level of curiosity (and courage because many/most people WOULD NOT ~ I think ~ EXPLORE that door as you did), I bet you've had an incredibly INTERESTING life. I am curious if you returned with a camera/lights to capture images of the gears and other features. That would be a fascinating video or stills. I doubt the Op will return & respond to my comment....but it's fascinating nonetheless.

The cross under the floor is bridging that keeps the floor joist from twisting. The trap door may have been there to give workmen access to the utilities under the floor. Most one stories buildings built today are on a concrete slab.

The girl who found the hole in the floor of the hotel room didnt discover anything other than the access panel used to install and service the plumbing, electrical and possibly the heating for the rooms. The reason the receptionist was most likely irritated was that a customer had taken it upon themself to move furniture, tear up the floor and access something that was really "none of her business". The access was not a "secret", it is a necessity for maintenance.

I actually have a trap door story too! My granny lived in Tupelo, Mississippi and gardened her whole life. In her older years, as I was growing up she lived in a tiny house in the country with a big vegetable garden out back. Once my sister and I were back there playing in it after she had recently been tilling it up so the dirt was exposed and dug up more and the grass around was shorter. And we noticed something we never had seen before. It was a small wooden door with a chain handle. It didn't move easily when we tried it and she came outside right as we began investigating so we acted as if nothing happened. I don't know why but every time we tried to go check it out she would appear and call us elsewhere. Never did get to see what was inside and for some reason we were too scared to ask her. Maybe it was the vibe we got from the way she kept distracting us. I still wonder about that trap door to this day some 28 years on.

I lived across the street from a guy called "Bubba". He finally moved and a lady bought their house. She told me that Bubba dug this big hole or room under the house. One side of the room had a concrete wall and the other 3 sides were dirt. Bubba had put more than 50 25 gallon blue plastic barrels filled with water up against the wall. The barrels still labels on them saying sodium hypochlorite (bleach). He worked for the city so I figured he got them from the water treatment plant when they were empty. He must of had some fear the world was going to come to an end and was preparing. Our town is at the corner where Utah, Nevada and Arizona meet.

There's a house I stayed at for a few months when I lived in Utah. It was already furnished, but I ended up moving the bed to vacuum the room. I saw a square cut in the carpet and decided to look further. It was a trap door that led to a giant hole. Big enough for probably 10 people to hide out. Sure enough, I found out that the house was used to hide slaves during the underground railroad movement. There were no artifacts leftover or anything, but I still thought it was pretty neat!

I do enjoy the idea of the art project. That said....I'm all up for unconventional housing situations. Fix up the "dungeon" and you'll have dozens of new small apartments. 11 minutes makes me laugh. It's access to a crawl space. Almost ALL buildings run pipes below the floor in CRAWL SPACES exactly like this. I work In Washington DC doing HVAC and almost every small 2 or 4 unit building, that doesn't have a basement, has a crawl space exactly like this.
@cheezyballs4631
@cheezyballs4631 2 года назад
Why tho
@rsmotox1
@rsmotox1 2 года назад
@@cheezyballs4631 It's easier to run pipes through a crawl space due to the gap between the floor joists and the ground below which means less obstructions than trying to feed piping through walls or ceilings that have studs or joists every 16 or 24 inches, wiring, insulation, electrical boxes, fire blocking, joist support crosses, etc etc. Also heating pipes to radiators are ran lower than the radiators in the room or else they will trap air, and cause air pockets in the piping that will prevent proper water circulation and in turn cause heating issues. Also if there is a water leak it won't cause damage to the living space, it will just leak into the earth below. Sorry for the super long response lol

Actually in HK, there are lots of people still living in condition like the second last artist's design, with the same amount of money, you can buy a large house at overseas country like UK US, while you can only get a small flat, eg 44m^2 for 790000 USD, and that is not even the CBD of HK.

My aunt had a secret room under a trap door in her living room where she was hiding communists during the Nazi era. As a kid I found that incredibly exciting.
