Awesome track!! Can remember the first time hearing this for first time on a radio show, around 91/92…and the DJ described the song and the band as “The Doors” on Special Brew” (Special Brew is an extremely strong 9% beer in UK/Europe)…think that description pretty much sums up the Stranglers for me…

Well, this arrangement owes something to The Doors - but arguably, in terms of sound-plus-attitude, any of those lo-fi organ-led garage bands of the '60s would be nearer the mark.

For popular choices, Golden Brown and No More Heroes are two absolute classics but for a deeper dive into their catalogue their first album had Sometimes, a punk call to arms, and Down In The Sewer, an album- closing keyboard fiesta.

This is the most stunning guitar solo and organ and record of ALL time. I KNOW you liked it even though you looked like you were in pain ( or ecstasy ) Its a classic, just let it run through your mind. You said it's dope and you are right, also listen to Golden Brown, it really is dope .Love your expression...excellent.

The instrumental,the mid part was a jam based around The Doors Light my Fire,strange the dialectical opposite,well that's according to IN in an interview he did on capitol radio citing the aforementioned songs as on d of his favourites,Dave Greenfield piano does have that spooky atmosphere maybe that is what you the listener are feeling not the anguish of hugh,a voice!!!

Just about the filthiest.gnarliest bass sound about. It just growls at you. Along with Peter Hook probably my favourite bass players ever.

@@kevinbarker7915 am I not a lucky man then went to see the Stranglers at the Rainbow theatre on April 4th 1980 when Hugh Cornwall was in Prison & a lot of friends helped out. The support act should have been UB40 but cancelled and an up and coming band came on instead JOY DIVISION. Saw New Order many times 3 nights in a row and they played a different set list each night except for BLUE MONDAY every night

What happened to the guitar solo ? It sounded like it’s been manipulated and pushed back in the mix. Coming off the back of the keyboard solo it should be front and centre. Strange version of this track.

IS it my headphones or is the balance way off in this. Can hardly hear Hugh's guitar... What a classic though. I had the white vinyl single of this that came with whichever album it was.. Lost it, of course
