@peachespointofview well I don't know who those you speak of cuz I'm not them. My father was a mailman and my moms was a teacher and they had 8 kids. We grew up in one of the worst neighborhoods in our city but our parents just knew how to manage their money and keep their household in tact. So I won't apologize for having hardworking parents cuz by society's standard they were under the poverty line as well. And I remember many times, my dad running the cord from his room to the living room so that we could see good movies. Hopefully you are doing better from your children. Peace
@@janethoward1161 your parents still had pretty decent jobs. They just chose to live in a bad environment. Maybe because they were cheap. With those 2 incomes in the home. They could have had y’all living better.
I totally get what you mean. I watch this movie like two times and I keep on wishing like yo this could end better for the main character but it always will remain the same lol...
dood you know these dumb anorexic sickly looking motherfukers are not going to put up time to watch this they're just going to let another tattoo on their face
@Its_Only_Money I see what you did 😃👍. Darrel Allen and Dequan Mitchell were basically the same type of character. Minus the ratting that the Allen character didn't do in caught up LOL.
@@spenser6353 let’s see you make something better. But I’m sure you haven’t accomplished shit in your life but, run your mouth. Have a several 🪑 🪑🪑🪑🪑🪑🪑🪑🪑
Exactly because he thinks that he was the one that snitched on him when really it was Daquan that snitched because ben didn't want him in on the gun business with him and bamboo for some reason and he didn't want to tell bamboo that he was the one who told probably because he didn't want to rat on himself or was afraid of what was gonna happen if he had told him about it
Man..... fuck Ben. If I was Daquan, I would've told on Ben's ass too. Driving all the way from the suburbs to the inner city in order to make a profit of all of the little black and brown(Hispanic) homies robbing and killing each other off by using the guns which he sold to them in the first place. Who needs people like that setting foot within the hood in order to contribute to the urban blight. Even though this movie is fictional but in there are plenty of Ben's in real life doing the same thing. Majority of those kind of individuals are crooked individuals within the field of law enforcement. As for Bamboo, he should've save his anger for Ben's ass and put a bullet in his brain especially for dropping off the N bomb over the phone to him even threatening his life. But no..... he wasn't thinking straight. Ben's the true antagonist in this movie.
I Get why Daquan had told on him because ben didn't trust him and was being mean to him but he didn't have to do that I mean that is bamboo's man and don't you think that if Daquan had told bamboo that he had told on him that he might kill him because he snitched on him and I don't know if bamboo would want to kill his man or not but don't you think that he wouldn't want to kill his man because ben is his man and that's the one that he sales guns with and get his guns from
One of the greatest black male actors of the 90s. Even now if he did a film his acting would be amazing. Tough to deny real talent like his. They don't make um like that no mo. 1 of the greatest of all times
@bang boom bang boom AMERICAN Gangster was 80%fake and a100% about a SNITCH, Frank Lucas was a fraud, and no where near the biggest at the time. Look up pee wee Kirkland.
And the struggles continues. I am so glad I left this neighborhood. My mother worked so hard to get us out. And she succeeded. Sad part is I here that alot of the kids I used to play with are either dead or in jail. The ghetto is no playground. !GET OUT AND DON'T LOOK BACK BROTHERS.
kyre richardson why did you leave the FOI..Ive been thinking of joining the NOI but the thing is I dont want to worship Islam. Is there a way I can support the group but not covert?
CabriniGreene Stay away from Islam its another false religion. You are a Hebrew Israelite from on of the 12 tribes of Judah. I will prove it to you if you want.
kyre richardson NOI was a false religion but Farrakhan put an end to that Sunni Islam is true i don't buy in to any of that black Israelite talk but to each his own
I dont understand why folks hate on Woodbine. He's an excallant actor with a thick resume and has got better and better with each role. He is outstanding in Fargo.
Yes always loved Bokeem.. he is def mega talented!! He didn't get all those roles over the years from his looks that's for certain... he is def not ugly but he came up in a time when being light skin pretty boy was really the thing. 😏
Oh man this is a blast from the past. This movie was filmed on my block, I’m the kid in the red outfit at the end with the movie the other three kids were friends of mine. I’m now in my forty’s I probably was around 13 or 14 ish, wooooow I haven’t seen this movie in almost 30 years. Lol they paid us 50 bucks for those few minutes and for every graffiti art we did that paid 30 buck apiece. The 90s were a good decade….
She could’ve beat 8 years with 18 months (a year, maybe 14 months with good time), instead he took a life sentence. And she ended up finding another dude within the first year. That’s real life shit.
Just like if the roles are reversed, he with another woman in 1 day. There are true loyal men and women out there but it's hard to find. But never do time for anyone else that's the real moral of the story.
Yeah the dude was stupid for turning himself in and taking responsibility for murder he did not commit.. he could’ve gave up the kid who killed the kid outside his apartment for his girlfriends freedom and he could’ve given up his boy who killed the little girl for his own freedom and a one-way ticket to any other state away from all of that. It’s not like his boy had the Power to send a hit squad to look for him states away.
@@sweetconman He had done enough! He knew he messed up his life. Even if bamboo didn't get to him somebody else would. He was labeled a snitch. That's a death sentence in the streets of New York. He didn't have any money to move away with a kid. The moral of the story is stay out of the streets if you not down
This movie is deep. Daquan is a martyr for his unborn child, but he still gets his hands dirty and betrays those around him to get what he be needs. He is actually no different from the cop McRae, who uses desperate people as informants. This movie is all about crooked relationships and hidden agendas. There isn't a clear distinction between between the protagonists and antagonists in this film, there is no black and white, good or bad.......just a muddy sea of gray. Forrest Whtittaker didn't receive enough props for this film, truly an underrated classic.
him giving up ben doesn't make him a snitch ... why ..? cuz he stealing from the hood anyway .. if he ratted on bamboo which i personally don't think that would of been snitching cuz he killed a lil girl .. u must be jailed for killing innocent ppl .. period .. but he didn't sell out his own .. he actually would of been helping in a crazy sort of way cuz he would of got 150 guns a week off the street
ben gave up bamboo .. white boy always have a back up plan .. he gave gun to busta for his phone number then called the police on him .. thats all .. he never said who ben was selling to .. ben did
One of the best movies out there! A lot of talent in this movie. This movie hits hard, a young man almost forced to play the streets to help his girl out, but being a snitch in the hood is a dangerous game. The 90’s had the best hood movies. I think all the scenarios and stories have been done and there’s no more good stories to be told.
I hear you!! I also think that the people making big movies aren't creative. They just look for what sells, they look for the numbers but it's about art. Big up all the "small" movies, directors, writers, producers, editors and actresses and actors that use passion to create. I find these times were very experimental and filled with artistic desire. That's why they were so good, now it's like people can't be bothered. It's ridiculous.
This is the only movie that really brings out what life was really like in those old school rap vinyl (picture only) videos on RU-vid (Ten Thieves, Da Henchmen, Lo Down, etc), I loved listening to those old lost 90s east coast rap music uploaded to RU-vid, no movie brings those vibes out more than Strapped!
PLR 88 looked like everyone had the same bald head, style of clothes, same slang, etc. Didn’t see no damn individual originality. Things are a lot less narrow minded today
I been looking for this movie, too! All I could remember was that freaking grocery store scene. I had no idea who was in it or what this was about. Just that it was a 90s hood movie.
I work as a commercial director and film editor for ten years now - and this film was my spark. This film has just the beauty of filmmaking - because it puts everything together. Message. Imagery. No need for sharp, perfect pictures. It just caught me. The real spark was the intro of that film..amazing..
The cop at at least went to bat for dude at the DA office but he wouldn't budge. However, if you don't do stupid shxt you won't have to worry about these kinda problems. We all have to make better choices.
Jim Beam that’s true but sometimes and you know cops naturally always ducking with us black man good or bad cops always fucking with us black guy get hurt by cops over nothing
@@kingmontague1926 Right or Wrong and this is where Quan is wrong again he also had his Mother, Sisters and Grandmother opened to ramifications of him being a snitch.
Love all your movies fam... I could imagine how much fun it was to meet Tupac and other great ones. This and New Jersey Drive is among my favorites. Shout out Isaiah Washington too.
I'm just seeing this movie in 2022 for the first time. I remember when it came out. Neither the less; it enough to bring tears to my eyes to know it's still relevant to where I live. I don't know if the world will ever care, but I know that 'we' must.
Thanks for the post. I haven't seen this movie since it first came out. Forgot how good it was. Seems like yesterday we were having fun running around Brooklyn and trying to make it home safe every night.
The love we have for our queen makes us do things we normally wouldn't do. To every king watching this please get off the streets and raise your families as a real man should. Love her with all your heart mind, body and soul. And ladies if you have a good man please know that he'll go to the end of the world for you and his kids. So don't tease him about being a real man when you're mad at him. Remember that this man will lay down his own life for his family. If you have such a bond together than make sure he's not in the streets. Make sure you stand by him when times are hard. We hurt just like you but show it differently. Most of us cry in the dark to keep you from worrying about things we're supposed to handle. Remember that before saying harsh things to us. Just be loyal and love one another. Let know one come between you. Stay safe and free.....because We all fear the police coming to our doors telling us our love one is not coming home. Love and honor one another and raise your kids right... Black Rose
