SYL remains a classic metal band, but I am also so glad that Devin grew out of it. He was just so unstable at that time, and was essentially always on psychadelics. I bet he could nail the clean singing/sweep picking sections perfectly now. The tradeoff is that he wouldn't want to play it.
He is such a ridiculous guitarist, to be singing while playing that sweeping lick. God damn. On different note, you have the great camera views in this video, of which do not show him playing said lick, and barely showing him during his solo. Great job film crew!
For the people mentioning out of pitch singing, do you mean clean vocals or the distorted ones? Gotta give the man a break when he is sweep picking and singing at the same time:)
Listen to him during the DTP era and later, he's never had these types of issues. His poor outing here is more likely to do with him not being sober and not maintaining his voice properly during this period.
@@Oxpost Probably part of it, but he's never written another song where he has to simultaneously sweep pick at this speed and sing, either. For obvious reasons!
The guy with the cap playing the keyboards looks like some random guy got lost and he happened to know the song so they put him there to fill. He seriously couldn't look more out of place lol.
Gabriel Fieste that might not be Dave young, but Dave young(the guitarist for the dtp and keyboardist for the dtb) was in alien on keyboards. Sorry for being a prick lol 😂. Edit:sorry for using that emoji
MUAHAH np, its nice to share knowledge with emojis xD yeah it can be, i dont remember too well cuz i listen just a bit of SYL and a LOT of DTB and DTP hehe
@DemonDays1993 I saw them not too long ago at the house of Blues Orlando & what amazed me was his drummer. The guy has to weigh 250 - 300lbs. He wears combat boots & weights on each ankle. He uses no triggers and his double bass rolls are amazing & relentless. It punched me in the chest. This guy is just amazing
Derrick GW Indeed he has, but the reason he sounds a bit "off" in this when singing clean is because he had quite a severe cold during this performance.
Dana Prescott A person who looks like Devin but brown I can only agree You see Devin is trying very hard and doing very well so i can only agree with people who disagree need to be chopped up.
@MrUltraworld I have a habit of discovering bands just as they either reform (give or take a year or so) or disband. examples of reforms within a year and a half of discovery: Blur, Refused, At the Drive-In, Limp Bizkit, Primus, American Nightmare, Faith No More, One Minute Silence, (there are more but I'm tired and can't remember them all). Some breakups (notably The Ghost of a Thousand). I discovered SYL only about a month or so ago.
@MrUltraworld Thing is though, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that does his work mainly for money. He's even outright said that he doesn't care that people download his work, he only cares that people listen to it. I'd love for him to return to SYL as much as the next guy, and I ain't necessarily saying never, but it looks unlikely. But there is some mild speculation that there may be a mini reunion at his big 'Retinal Circus' show in London, in October.
@MrUltraworld I don't know, a reunion just for shits and giggles, maybe. Even then the chances for that would be incredibly slim. The reason Dev ended SYL was because it just wasn't his thing anymore, and he still holds that claim to this day. Although, recently he has said that he may be willing to play a select set of SYL songs that still "flow" with him .
i was going to give you a thumbs up... but i didnt want to spoil your epic 69 predecending thumbing ups! (appologies for the grammar iv had a skin full) good will to you brother of metal! and keep on 69ing!
@THX256 Right now, he's really putting out a lot of music and touring. I think he's also trying to make some money. For all his popularity, I don't think he made all that much. But if he gets comfortable, I could see him doing it again. a SYL reunion could be a money maker also. So, never say never.
Yeah I love Thomas as well. There is just something about the combination of Gene's awesome power, speed and complete and total finesse while executing that I just love though.
