An insightful analysis, thanks. References to the elite units no longer being ‘elite’, and to the degradation of materiel support to Russian infantry forces are highly relevant. The rate of territorial advance of Russian forces is not dependent solely on Russian numbers. Also of relevance are Ukrainian numbers and combat capability, and with the increasing availability of Western aid and the newly mobilised brigades coming on stream, that will work in Ukraine’s favour. That assumes, of course, that the Russians do not mobilise. Also of relevance is the aerial component, both manned and unmanned. Here too, the pendulum is swinging in Ukraine’s favour. Looking forward to your strategic analysis.

That is definitely true. I think, while manpower is important, and more so for Russia considering what tactics they use, they will not decide the outcome of this war. Logistics will, and as long as the west stands behind Ukraine, Russia will lose. Oil price has gone down, that will hit Russian revenues. Kuwait is pushing for increased production, that will put additional pressure on the oil price.

JMS question ? Since the Russian forces are being degraded at a high rate how would they be able to contain a counterattack if Ukraine launches one with in the Potkorsk direction? Would a gap open up for Ukraine to attack or would the enemy culminate due to the fact they have little resources to fight a defensive battle?

@@thebean3463 Ukraine is also struggling and had to move forces from Kursk to Pokrovsk to stabilise the front there. They also struggle and loses important position in Vuhledar I think at this point the best way is to struggle on an inflict maximal damage on Russian army and infrastructure. The tipping point where Russia can’t afford to struggle on for both economic, political and human hardship reason is close!

Fwiw the numbers in an Russian squad has moved from 10 men to 8 men are now considered a full squad.

Possibly. Very hard to judge casualty figures in real term. Russia is in any case sustaining significantly more casualties than Ukraine. And it is pretty clear that Russia is suffering more permanent casualties than replacements, and that is significant.

None of this analysis is of much use if you don’t compare to Ukrainian losses.

@@PappaTom-ub3ht Well to a degree but what if Ukrainian forces are degrading faster than Russia's? If we are following a football game and I tell you how many points one team has but not the other...well...how do you know who is winning?
@PappaTom-ub3ht
@PappaTom-ub3ht 22 дня назад
@@shaunarmstrong8594 The things is that losses for ukraine is not the same as for russia. Ukraine will keep fighting until they loose. As ling as nothing catastrophic happens and the grind is as slow as it is they will have enough troops. Russias losses on the other hand will degrade the will and ability of the country to keep in the fight. Ukraines ability to keep on the fight is dependent on aid from other countries.
@PappaTom-ub3ht
@PappaTom-ub3ht 22 дня назад
So, what i mean is that an analysis of Russia losses is like a countdown to the end of the war. Ukraine just have to keep up the fight until then. and with support it easily will.

@@PappaTom-ub3ht But what happens if Russia stops offensive ops, digs in deeper and say ok Ukraine your turn to lose 3 - 1 casualties and try and push them back?
