In today's video I play Fury Software's newest game, the newest in their Strategic Command series, Strategic Command: World War I. This grand strategy game will put you in the shoes of either the Entente Powers or the Central Powers as you attempt to fight and win World War I in the time honored, Strategic Command System. In today's video I continue the offensive against the Kingdom of Serbia.

I feel you're being too aggressive near Lemberg. The Russians outmass Austria heavily in that area, it's risky to push forward with the units you have since if they get destroyed you'll have no defensive positions to fall back on. Especially since Russia is getting attacked from behind by Germany soon enough which will force them to split their forces more.

I think you can move units and entrench them in the same turn. I believe its a one hex allowance. Not sure, but noticed while watching Tortuga's first impression vid

If you use all your action points you cannot entrench, if you have just 1 left, you can entrench.

It does, to a point, sometimes its better to have the HQ closer to the front if the city isn't very close to the front.

I REALLY wanted to like commander the great war, but I always got that one bug where the AI would abandon the french front around 1916 and it rendered the AI unplayable. It wasn't even good in MP anymore as the latest patch misplaces some numbers on the convoys germany gets and gives it so much manpower that it actually goes up in manpower as the war goes on. Its an amazing game where just 2 bugs completely kills it. That's why I'm so interested in this game as I think it might scratch the same itch.

Weird... I did a really long let's play series on my channel a few years back as the CP and never experienced either of those bugs!

@@thehistoricalgamer Yeah I think they were accidentally added in later patches. I know the manpower bug was added in one of the last patches, and the AI suicide upon Italian entrance has always been there when I played, but some people said it wasn't in earlier versions.

the reason why driving through Belgium here would feel like a slog is that the map isn't correct, if only they had moved Maastricht one hex up.

I would have stayed on the defense against France to keep them at occupied. I also would have sent troops from Germany to attack Serbia and Montenegro in order to get them out quickly.

Why,why,why, in the year 2019, can you not stack units in a hex in a PC wargame, like you have been able to do on a cardboard map for 50 years?! Why do we still have rows of units?;

You can in some games, for example Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm. I think the engine of the Strategic Command series is way to old by now.

Actually, the Germans made a bee line for Paris, technically to encircle Paris, and didn't bother taking the coast until after the Marne the the Race for the Coast.

Jonathy James well I am an American and not a European but i can also trace my heritage through my last name because when I look up my last name Dolan it says that I am related to Niall of the nine hostages father who was a high king of Ireland

Chase Dolan well if you can trace your name to Irish people you have European genes and therefore you have German ancestors just like every person with European genes

First overwhelming Serbia clearly seems to be the best strategy, yet they didn't do it in WW1. Maybe there were logistical/infrastructure reasons, like they couldn't effectively deploy & sustain loads of troops in the Balkans at the time.

Historically Russian offensive in Galicia smashed the Austrian troops there and Austrians were forced to send the additional troops there. Not sure how well this is represented in this game, it was well done in the old Strategic command: The Great war.

Are you prevented from checking out where the Ottoman units are? You haven't looked at their area yet. Can you move those units before they are at war or buy things for them? Also....and you knew this was coming....is there an option to zoom out and look at the whole map at once so you can check for units you may have missed in out of the way places. *cough* Falklands *cough*

@@thehistoricalgamer You can move the initial forces and buy more, depending on your strategy the Ottomans may take a while to fully mobilize so those extra units strategically placed on the border will be a great help.
