A common misconception is that to be a top student with a 4.0 GPA or a great MCAT score, you must be inherently smart. While intelligence does help, most people have the potential to become top students - it’s just a matter of applying yourself in the right ways. Here’s what separates the top students from the rest of the pack, and what you can do to become a top student yourself.

Even as someone who received my bachelors with a 4.0 GPA, and used a few of these strategies during my studies, I've learned so much from this video and am so glad that I found it! I'm taking science prereqs (as I will be a non-traditional applicant) so I can qualify for med school and take the MCAT, and the first set of strategies helped me ace my neuroscience exam! Thank you for sharing!

6:22 This year at school (Senior year) I have late arrival, meaning I get to skip 1st period, and I can 100% say that more sleep = more success. Before I made an average of some A's and mostly B's, but recently I have been making all A's consistently. I recommend 8-9 hours of sleep a night if possible because it helps more than you may realize especially overtime. Extra note: I also heard cutting back on sugar intake throughout the day also helps with peaking brain function (I'm going to probably try this for myself).

Always find your content super informative and work to implement these strategies into my daily life and refine my habits, but as a student with chronic pain and illness, I find my health constantly thwarting my attempts at success and consistency. I’ve never really felt seen as a pre-med with aspirations similar to the next student’s, but am not sure how to realistically combat the situation at hand. I feel like a lot of these videos presume that the audience is physically fit and capable enough of making these changes (I could certainly be wrong), and that it would be beneficial for myself and other students with disabilities to hear from a perspective that is understanding of our circumstances and offers more relevant approaches.

@@MedSchoolInsiders please dr. Jubal, please come up with a video for people with ADHD LIKE ME. I have trouble with notes, reading faster and so reading the textbook and highlighting / annotating helps me a ton, but I don’t have more time for anything else. It’s very hard to get things done in a reasonable amount of time I think cause of my adhd. I’m concerned with studying and being able to adapt to different studying styles, in different subjects, I don’t know how to apply something’s. Also I feel I do in fact actively learn as I write annotations and hi-light my text book, I use a color coding system that helps me speed up the note taking process, because I physically cannot go any faster, and the longer the text, the less I know where to focus my attention to. So please, if you see this I don’t care how desperate I look, I NEED your help, my dream is to become a psychiatrist, and seeing your videos tell me that I just need to adopt a growth mind set that I’m always improving on math and science, give me hope that I don’t have to be as bad as I use to believe.

Decent video though it misses some beats such as memory ability and professors. Adaption and knowing tips to study is definitely learned which is generally not taught to young people. This is especially true with those who don't have family with good income. The active learning is definitely a good way to learn though and I'm glad it's brought up. Of course the stock market analogy is so off the mark compared to studying since the stock market is very rigged.

Watching this video sparked a question. I hope you can help. I’ve taken longer than a traditional biology/pre-profess. student to graduate due to different circumstances, but I’m almost done, finally. However, since it’s been some years since I’ve taken basic courses like Biology & Chemistry (that I passed with great grades) do I: a. need to retake those courses before graduation & applying to med school/PA program? b. graduate, get my degree, then retake certain courses before applying? c. Don’t retake them since I got good grades already, even then it’s been a few years ago?

0:45 That doesnt make much sense cause it thinks the world is fixed and revolves around your actions, "i go to the bakery every sunday so it will absolutely be open". A great example (even if not entirely realistic) is the final match up between tokuchi and johnson, johnson ran as great as he always did but at that point after 3 straight games he simply wouldnt be able to produce the same output. We also see in the match against Mariners how outside factors can fuck up your plan.

What I’ve found is that course work requires you to know specific things that are too basic. I have to challenge my own self since materials that are required to learn for classes only help students for a very temporary period of time. Very unfortunate as this is how students are educating themselves and colleges are not challenging students in the proper manner required for real success!
