Hi, very interesting video, I knew someone who worked there at that time (sadly gone now), The DRS has now been closed 32 years (26th march 1991), there is now no trace of the Works or the Depot.
Hi, I suspect that it was done whilst there was an audience, I believe they used to do Re-railing exercises using withdrawn loco’s, I went to Old oak common open day in 1991 & all they did was lift a coal wagon
@@TechnoJonny I know they did re railing exercises but never saw one using a loco. Like you I only saw them lift and re rail a coal wagon at Tinsley or Knottingley using a steam crane. There were not many people about when the loco was tipped over and a lot of staff seemed to know the person filming which I guess now was not you. The same open day I saw the wagon lifted they also let people ride in a track recorder and tamper, the only open day I have known that.
These were the proud times when open days really were crowd pullers, pride for the the community around Stratford, East and West Ham. I sadly missed the event by exactly 12 months before arriving in Stratford. A proper open day, with proper locomotives. Had a real soft spot for Temple Meads and Stratford depot. Great vid, many thanks, and best regards from all places (wait for it,and please don’t laugh) Germany!.
