Being a Shakespeare scholar when studying English Literature for four years, I find myself mesmerised by the idyllic charm of this town, this is my second trip to this historic and literary haven.
The birthplace of the world's greatest playwright, William Shakespeare. You will find his 16th century thatched roof cottage on Henley Street, where this renowned playwright was born and raised. You will also uncover the romantic story behind one of the most famous love stories in history, he married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and remained married until his death. His final resting place was in Holy Trinity Church, this is the town where he spent his life and created some of the greatest works of literature ever written.
Taking a leisurely stroll along Henley Street, visiting the picturesque Bridge Street, and browsing the local boutiques and antique shops. We also Indulged in a classic afternoon tea, so many local delicacies to chose from and savour. Walked along the River Avon, and soaked up the outdoor scenery, this particular day there were so many food and craft stalls and entertainment for children. A must do on a visit here is the canal cruise and tour.
If you plan an entire day trip to this town or even an overnight stay then I recommend you look into booking a visit to Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Shakespeare’s New Place and also the gardens at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. If you have any time left over see if you can book a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
