Thanks so much for posting these! This is so much more digestible than other material I have found on the subject!

Also, it would be nice if this video was in the Sedimentology and Stratigraphy Playlist.

Haha thank you! I always kept this one out of the sed strat playlist because I made that playlist later on and thought I replaced this old video with better newer ones, but I am so glad to hear you still liked this one even though it’s older and not as streamlined, so I will for sure add it in now ;) thanks!

Super, this really helps my understanding of a lot of the diagrams and text I've been researching. Thank you for making such a useful little vid.

So glad you found this video helpful! I have an updated video on sedimentary structures in case you are still in need of information on this topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fmQXGT2oUno.html

6:51 does that say "gardening" in the image next to "Locomotion Traces" 😳 ... Well that gives me a whole new view of ancient life. I knew the stem tetrapods came on land for the weed.

Hahaha! Love this 😂 The figure is actually showing bioturbation processes that can occur in both land sediment and aquatic settings, so their not necessarily gardening on land, but maybe there's an aquatic version of weed they like too ;)

@@GEOGIRL Oh, alot of them animals be bi and getting high, but the Bilateral Gynandromorphs puff puff pass to themselves. Ok seriously, but does that really say "gardening"? What would that mean? And do you know of a good text on Taphonomy? I want to learn more about paleontology type taphonomy but the majority of what I keep seeing forensic taphonomy or highly specialized on a fossil site or location. Books like Protheros 'Bringing the Fossils to Life' are surprisingly lacking on taphonomy.

@@whatabouttheearth Yes it says gardening! Believe it or not, there are many organisms that disturb soil/sediment & provide it with nutrients for the specific purpose of growing their food. For example, check out this paper about ants that grow fungus gardens: doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0158920 ! But to answer your second question, I agree, Bringing Fossils to Life has very little information about taphonomy. I did some digging and (after sifting through the forensic and hominin focused books) I found this one on exceptional fossil preservation: amzn.to/3ItzMj4 (I looked at the table of contents and it looks like it goes over the most famous preservation sites, but it is a bit pricy). I then found this: amzn.to/3qQ16lz (which is a bit less expensive but focuses on vertebrates rather than invertebrates). And then I found this gem: amzn.to/3G7GIkx (which is also a bit pricy, but looks so good! It looks like it goes over the preservation potentials of different materials, tissues, skeletons, etc. and the different modes of fossilization & preservation like recrystallization, etc., honestly, I am thinking of getting it haha) Anyway, I hope this helped. I wish I had an actual book to recommend to you rather than just my opinion of the ones I can find online, but in any case, best of luck with your search! Let me know if you find something good! ;)
