Ich habe schluchzend und tönend geweint (oder hier passender geheult. Obgleich ich das Wort eigentlich nicht mag, aber hier passt es, denn in dem Wort ist mehr Ton und ich war einfach laut. Insofern, finde ich, passt es hier besser.) Ich war (und bin) tief ergriffen von der Darbietung. Und heilfroh nicht live dabei gewesen zu sein, weil ich, wie gesagt, mit meinem Getöne den Gesang übertönt hätte. Ganz großartig! Für mich ein Erlebnis!! Ich bin noch ganz gerührt! Und ich hatte schon mehrere andere gute Interpretationen (Kiri Te Kanawa (wundervoll)& Wolfgang Brendel (hier für mich nicht überzeugend), Annelise Rothenberger und Herman Prey, Gundula Janowitz und Bernd Weikl (berührend) gehört an dem Abend, weil mir durch Zufall diese Oper zugespielt wurde... Keine hat mich so tief ergriffen, dass ich wahllos dahin schluchzte, jankte und heulte... Wahnsinn!! Ich bin total begeistert!

This is one of the most beautiful music pieces in the world! Could listen on hours. When I was a kid, I had a record-player which I made to replay by pushing a match in the corner of the play-button. Would do it with this piece as well. A shame, I can't listen to Annelise Rothenberger. That is even with more feeling...

I have been a fan of Renee Fleming's for years, but I much prefer the Gundula Janowitz and Bernd Weikl version of this.

But Hampson IS the right Mandryka - could have been written for him!!

This is sung and played beautifully and all that, but is so musically out of context to the storyline you may not sense what came before or where it's going. It's played like a stand alone 'art song'. Not my favorite. Lisen to the strings in the last 10 bars in other performances.

Incredibly beautiful and I am not one of Renee;s greatest fan. Alas when they taped the performance ini Zurich Hampson was ill and his replacement, Morton Frank Larsen, was weak and the conducting left a lot to be desired.. Fleming should have another go at this opera, get the right Mandryka and Thielemann should conduct.

Fleming's Arabella is fine but can't hold a candle to Lisa Della Casa.
