Nilsson's famously imperious top is employed to great advantage in this stunning performance. In this, no-one can touch her, she is Salome.

Unbelievable clip! I heard Nilsson sing Salome live at the Met...as well as Elektra! She was not in her prime at the time, but who can touch her today? She really was a phenomenon that comes along once-in-a-century...if that. (I don't believe Flagstadt ever sang Salome... But there is a recording of her singing Elektra)

Cantava con un dominio del suo strumento come poche...dominando tutte le sfumature che il tedesco esige per non diventare ...un cespuglio di suoni ingrovigliati...e rende giustizia allo Sprechgesang in maniera esemplare. Un dono degli dei...donna molto spiritosa e sempre consapevole che il suo canto fosse ...Unico. Capace di una concentrazione aulica che la rendeva sempre attenta a non esagitare Partiture già da sole portate all'apice dell'espressività teatrale. Ottima l'orchestra che allora non temeva nessun confronto...e me L' hanno confermato una marea di cantanti ...celebri e bravissimi. Io c'ero un trionfo. Complimenti a chi l'ha postato.

Perfect vocal and expressive performance by Nilsson. It is so amazing to listen to such a gigantic and metallic voice being able to soften and scale down to the most beautiful pianissimi and piano singing, reaching a youthful tone without losing its focus and power. Besides, her facial and vocal expression are very remarkable, she colors and shapes the words to great beauty and also great dramatic meaning. One of the great Salomes.

My goodness she is fantastic at the age of 56 here. The sheer volume of the instrument is astonishing and her command of piano nuancing, respiratory reserve and phrasing a miracle!

Did they issue ear defenders to the people in the front row? Of course not, but imagine being there listening to the power of the orchestra of that size and then Nilsson's voice soaring above it. Emotional to watch just on RU-vid let alone being there.

Actually, if you sit in front, the sound gets over you. Best place is usually in the third of the hall. But depends of each hall acoustics obviously.

Meine Begeisterung über diesen unbeschreiblich herrlichen, differenzierten und ausdrucksstarken Gesang, das einmalige Timbre der Nilsson wird überlagert von völliger Fassungslosigkeit aufgrund der idiotischen, geradezu unterirdischen Kameraführung bzw. -regie: Die Nilsson singt die ersten großen Töne - man sieht sie nur von weitem; man hört die Trompeten, sieht aber die Hörner; Sawallisch war ein großartiger Dirigent - aber die Kamera zeigt seine Bewegungen, als fuchtele er direkt vor dem Gesicht der Sängerin. Ich habe das Video dann ausgestellt, weil es einfach nicht mitansehen ist, wie eine dilettantische Kamera große Interpretationskunst zerstört.
