Listen carefully to the beat drop (chorus part) once again. The lyrics that's not clear because of the beats are: "Common side effects may include nervousness, insomnia, nausea, agitation, anxiety, sweating, vision problems, psychosis, numbness, dizziness, headaches, weight loss." That statement clearly speaks about what the song is conveying. Side effects of a medicine (example, anti-depressant pills, etcetera) that's usually prescribed to people with mental illness like depression, anxiety, and such. You can also see it in their choreography, which is really chaotic and has a lot of hand movements that symbolizes what's going on in one's head whenever anxiety or other mental illness attacks him/her. The back-up dancers represents each member's shadows. (Credits to other stays' theories that I included here) This is why Side Effects is a piece of art, not just an ordinary EDM. It's a masterpiece with great artistic expression that proves Stray Kids' uniqueness and amazing talent. It is once again, produced by 3RACHA. More love to your channel! ❤️
I don't really know the meaning behind this, but one thing that i'm still amazed by is, if you closely hear in the chorus, you can hear this: "Common side effects include Nervousness, Insomnia, Nausea, Agitation, Anxiety, Weakness, Sweating, Visual problems, Psychosis, Numbness, Dizziness, Headaches, Weight loss, skin irritation." This with the screaming, the visuals and beat just blows my mind
They're supposed to be side effects of the pill they were supposed to take from district nine. And it's a metaphor for society's expectations and regulations. Things you "need to do or be" to fit in.
@@evelinramosmiranda619 "they were supposed to take". they didn't take the pill (that would have make them docile and conform to society) in district 9 because bang chan gave them the piece of paper instead and they broke out of the facility!
“Side Effects” is definitely one of SKZ’s best eras but many people actually disliked this song when it was first released. A lot of fans really didn’t like the chorus saying that it was just “noise”. It came to the point where other fandoms even joined the bandwagon saying how much they hated the song without even hearing it. Well here’s the thing, this song is definitely different and in my opinion, it’s one of their best title tracks. If I’m not mistaken, the genre of this song is called psytrance (psychedelic trance) and I believe that it’s the only Kpop song to have this genre. SKZ introduced a whole new genre to the Kpop world with this song and I think that alone makes it iconic. People may not like it at first listen, but the more you listen to it, the more you love it. I think some are just ashamed to admit that the like “Side Effects” after saying they hated it at first because even when they performed this song at KCON, the whole audience was singing the chorus. If you love this song, you have GREAT taste in music. “Side Effects” is only for intellectuals.
They just released a trailer for their new album IN生!!! The comeback will be on September 14, which is Han’s birthday! I’m so excited. You NEED to see the trailer.
Stray kids is having a comeback in October and they released the trailer and me myself has not recovered from dynamite yet like come on multistan problems
Actually, their mvs are conencted to each other. You'll probably react to Double Knot and Levanter after this. After you react to Levanter, WATCH HIGHLIGHT REEL PREQUEL. In that video, CHAN EXPLAINED THE CONNECTION AND STORYLINE OF THEIR MVS. FROM HELLEVATOR TO GO LIVE. Skz is really deep when it comes to their concept. You'll definitely need to use your brain to analyze everything.
oh the part where you said who was that? the i swallow pills lyrics, it was Hyunjin. i was shocked. I found it on a color coded lyric video. Those are great to watch because it shows you who's singing the lyrics by highlighting them
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. FINALLY, WE'RE HAVING OUR FIRST COMEBACK AS A STAY. CHECK THEIR NEW MV TEASER. THEY POSTED IT AN HOUR AGO. YOU KNOW THAT'S GONNA BE SICK.
Side effects has to be the most creative song i have ever heard in kpop. The way 3racha made the song very fitting to the concept. Genius. Also it’s the first song in kpop history with psytrance genre.
First time I listened to this song, I was very confused, and I didn't like it. But when I saw their performance at Kcon LA 2019. Ok Side Effects on my playlist 😂
Marie Brown I had a hard time getting into it to but you grow to appreciate how incredible it really is. And once you see how much SKZ can do with just about any genre, it just adds to the incredible talent 3Racha and the group as a whole possess.
Thanks again for your reaction! For this MV, if I remember correctly, it's connected with Yellow wood and A road not taken (but not sure). This one is about mental disease and others side effects (of a drug for exemple), and their struggles to exit this side effects. When they fight each others, I think it relates to some side effects which are listed during the chorus part ("Side effects include nervousness, anxiety..."). And the super modern bus represents the facility, which they choose to ignore by running. The end with Chan helping Hyujin up represents something like a hope that everything will be ok (at least for, but I could be wrong). And the key is linked to the title of the series of mini-albums : Clé, which means key in French. I think there is a video where Chan explain all this, but I didn't remember the title or the channel where I see it... And sorry, english is not my mother language, I hope it's still understandable. See you next time!
I ignored like the first 15 minutes of my first period to watch this, also I REALLY REALLY REALLY SUGGEST you watch their Survival show. You will gain even more respect for pretty much EVERY. SINGLE. MEMBER
U must reaction all their song (Hellevator - > cle levanter) and after that watch "Stray Kids Prequel Highlight Reel" . The video is about the explanation of all the stray kids songs (I Am series and Cle series)
The fast rap in the bridge was Hyunjin for 2 lines and then changbin for 2 lines!! I hope you check out some studio stuff choom performances because the choreo for this and other skz songs are INSANE. and THANK YOU for paying attention to Woojin’s visuals!! Hyunjin gives me taehyung vibes but woojin is so good looking too. Btw Stray kids is having a comeback September 14!! (That’s Jisung’s bday btw, Felix’s is the 15 and Seungmin’s is the 22) I AM SO NOT READY BC THEY LOOK SO DAMN GOOD. Also side effects is a genius song, people can not like it but they can’t deny that much. Stan geniuses stan stray kids!!
To understand that, you need to watch How Kim Woojin Become the "Villain" Of Kpop by Everglow Up. But in my personal opinion, he had a problem with the company, not with SKZ.
i fu**ing love your reaction, it's nice to rewatch all the MVs myself and your reaction as addition makes them even better it's so much fun to watch your skz videos~
what ive kind of taken from the song is that its about the self doubt they feel as they progress in their career. the pain and anxiety of growing up. the chorus has someone saying what the side effects of growing up as a kpop star may be and how this effects THEM. they talk avout baseless confidence and how their head hurts. despite the industrial electric beat its actually a pretty sad song
Hey, I know it's an old video but I just discovered your channel today and already finished watching about 10 of your videos! Your reactions are great and so relatable! I just have one suggestion, the lyrics of SKZ songs are really deep, and as someone who relates to their lyrics a lot, I'd really like to see you reacting to and talking about their lyrics as well alongside the music and mv ones😃 I hope to see the lyrics reactions in your SKZ reaction vids in the future😊✨(also i'm sorry if you already do this in the recent videos. I decided to watch from the earliest reactions so this might just seem so dumb of me😅😭)
I know everyone’s telling you this but my dude, you really gotta react to the IN生 trailer. It’s just that good. Can’t wait for you to experience your first SKZ comeback September 14 (Jisung’s Birthday too!).
I didn't pay a lot of attention to Stray Kids before but after watching the MV's with you and seeing how much Sana really cares about Bang Chan and how close those two are, I gotta say I'm a full Stay now. Love these guys and I wish them the best!
Us Stays (Stray Kid's fandom) don't really know the full story either, just that this MV started venturing into parallel worlds (two moons, two groups of skz taking the bus and the truck). This mv follows the boys that take the "Road not taken" indicating taking the path less travelled by others in life (such as their music style in kpop music). But as reflected by the title, every choice comes with their own 'Side Effects' such as self doubt (and more ailments can be heard in the background of the chorus). It's possible Hyunjin may be a 'glitch' experiencing both effects of the 2 worlds. The key is in reference to their trilogy the Clé (means key in French) series which consists of Miroh, Side Effects and Levanter as the title tracks. The boys are searching for the keys as they believe it is the answer to what they have been seeking for since their Debut trilogy "I Am:__". Hope this helps!
Okay so now i get what the whole i throw my self with trust in me , is that's it I guess after understanding that it's a sequel after 9 district which was basically about refusing the ways of the world and screaming off their ideals and running off to supposedly do it " right" and this the sides effects of that , them realizing how much effort and emotions go into protecting their ideals which they are already starting to doubt which I appreciate them talking about specifically the I know what's up and will never change , the anthem of most teen / youngster including me so yeah long way to go kid , so that's all I got for now but I am sure there is much more to it
This song depicts a person's mind during a mental breakdown ( I think ) it hits me on a spiritual level.. if you really think you're done with Changbin you better go hear his vocals in the king of masked singer :) i'll never be over that performance ( I hope you react to it tho I'd like to see your reaction on that lol)
So you said that you wanted to know the meaning behind the mv? Well this goes for the entire Cle series, so if you wanna figure it out on your own, then skip this comment (I didn't include Levanter, TLDR at the end) (I'll start off by saying that all lyrics and visuals in the MVs are entirely cannon to the story) Cle is key in french, and the Cle series is stray kids trying to find the key to happiness/success. They traverse through obstacles, honing in completely on what they're looking for. Miroh is the beginning of the journey that talks about their confidence and about how they're rushing to get to their goals. "In this rough jungle, I'm the one who ran into it. I'm ok" and "I push down the thorns at my feet" hints to the key not being what they thought it was, or the journey being hurtful rather than helpful. When they are too tunnel-visioned on their path to greatness, they don't realize the situations they make for themselves and the people around them. Side effects is the outcome of ignoring everything in pursuit of the Cle, showing how being too single-minded led to them becoming irrational (this explains the fighting), changing in certain ways (this is what Changbin and Felix rap about), getting headaches (Meoli apeuda), etc. Just overall bad things. The last one is Levanter, but I'll save that for when you've watched it unless you want me to say it now. TLDR: Cle is key in french. The key is something you want for happiness/success. Miroh was talking about their confidence/hinting towards the Cle being evil. Side Effects was showing how being too tunnel-visioned on the key ended up hurting themselves and others. I'm saving levanter for when you react to it.
You usually have cute intro. :D Btw, I'm sorry Stays for mentioning Woojin again :( but TooGrown like me whenever I see Woojin. Woojin's visual is always underrated.
