I was going to say, Kentucky Rain. One of my fav with Wonder of you and “Love me” You should watch “Love me” from this same stage. 1968 special. He’s so sexy.
Thanks so much for your reaction to Elvis (Jan. 8, 1935-Aug. 16, 1977). Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LrFCyNMvZWk.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.
Elvis has so MANY!! If I could dream, from the 68 comeback special. An American trilogy or steamroller blues from his Aloha from Hawaii concert. Those should be a good start.
Thanks for a great reaction just seeing him is gift within itself, but love the Vegas 1970 stuff, like "Patch it up", "The Wonder of You", "You've lost that loving feeling" and of course "Polk Salad Annie", you are very cute. thanks be Blessed.
My favorite of his was 'If I can dream.' It shows his awe inspiring power. I only found out when I bought the movie that it was written the night before out of rebellion.
No they have the suit in Gracelands museum as I saw it in February this year and it was the actual one from this concert and if you ever go it is mesmerising and really touches you in the soul I have been a fan for 43 years and going to see his house in Memphis was bsolutely brilliant but the one where he was born in tupelo was really depressing as. Shows what he and s family went through.
I had never believed it when my professor in college, both a musicologist and professional symphony musician, himself, told me that he viewed Elvis Presley to be the greatest overall singer of all time. "Why?," "What the hell?," so many of us said? With him first going on to ask what's Frank Sinatra's greatest and/or signature song? "My Way," someone eventually said and then the professor proceeded to show us various polls from over the years which listed Sinatra as the greatest singer ever. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were also on top of some, and Elvis, too, on a few. But the point of the exercise was to simply show us Sinatra was considered by many, though it's subjective, to be the greatest. The class then listened to Sinatra's "My Way," and then Elvis' version, back to back. With the room being roughly split as to whose version was better, "which proved what I thought?" But then the professor showed us Elvis rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from the Elvis 1968 Comeback Special. With the point ultimately being that regardless of whose version of 'My Way" you preferred, Elvis was right there, totally at home playing in Sinatra's backyard for lack of better parlance. But as to Sinatra playing in Elvis' backyard, he said, it couldn't be done, as he said "[i]magine Sinatra, (who he totally loved) trying to do that rock number?" Then going on to say that he had found no singer who had ever sang more genres, more majestically, than Elvis, & he challenged us to find out for ourselves by looking at his full catalogue of Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, Ballads, Gospel and more. And, when done, I admit I became a convert who was so, so doubtful, at first, I can't even begin to tell you. But from rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from that Elvis 1968 Comeback Special, to singing about the dream of humanity coming together with "If I Can Dream," from the same show, I believe you will see what I mean. Elvis even had a voice that could be operatic if you go and listen to 'Hurt' and his version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" will tell you why he has also sold more gospel records than anyone, as well as just tons more, overall. But, with pop and 'Such A Night' to a ballad such as 'They Remind Me Too Much of You,' he did it all, and so, so damn well. While for soul, check out 'Long Black Limousine' or 'You're Wearin' That Loved on Look' which is a bit of another number. Because as Elvis' one album cover says, there's 'Something for Everybody.' Also, and if ultimately you don't think Elvis is the best, that's totally cool as there really is something for everyone!;-) Great channel and I wish you the best!!! ~ Christopher Tyler P.S. Those recommendations are only, quite literally, the beginning!
I saw the 68 come back special when I was 8 years old and Aloha from Hawaii when I was 13. Too hard to pick a favorite song but if you like a really blow to the heart love song then listen to "It Hurts Me". I think we all have been there. It's so good. thank you for posting. I'm a new fan to your channel now.
I love all of ELVIS.... I SAY YOUR FAVORITE IS POLK SALAD???? BUT SO MUCH MORE.. JUST PRETEND / BLUE EYES CRING IN THE RAIN / PUT YOU HIGHHEEL SNEAKERS ON...❤
My mom was the one that got me into Elvis as well and I'm not sure about you but my favorite song is called Wooden Heart. It was a song he sang in G.I. Blues.
If I can Dream (68' Comeback Special) is my favorite. ALL the feels if you have not heard it please go watch it it was a tribute to his friend MLK right after his assassination so its sad but so beautiful and full of hope.
Easy, you gave me a mountain in Hawaii, If I can dream in the white suit on NBC, I want to be free...been a fan for over 45 years! Oh, and Stuck on you...he is the King. I'm gonna run my fingers thru your long black hair ,squeeze you tighter than a grizzly bear, those are lyrics you want to come up with for your loved one!
You haven't popped up in my feed in a while but that was wonderful. I had never seen that myself until like maybe 5 years ago and I'm nearly 60. But as a musician and somebody who loves rockabilly and really all kinds of music, I really dig a lot of his early stuff where there are only audio recordings and no video, but he put out so many of them that were hits and it's just amazing. But now we are so lucky to have a lot of video from him super early and then of course the movies but really a bit later in life when he started really performing a lot live again and just some stellar masterful performances of course. Check out, Hard-headed Woman, and, A Big Hunk of Love, as great examples of what I am talking about and I know you would totally rock hard to them if you haven't heard them and of course even if you have! Please don't confuse the title of that second song with a much later one that he did in the early seventies called, A Burning Hunk of Love.
I just can't help believing, another is My Way aloha from Hawaii. That's two of my favourites, however there are so many and so hard to choose. He was a one off. Never again will we see the like.
The song was first recorded by Elvis Presley in 1955 on his then unissued Sun label recordings. The track was released on Presley’s March 1956 RCA debut album Elvis Presley. this was a jam session with his old band from the 1950's for his TV Special in 1968. It was only one segment of the TV show which was about 2 hours long. Elvis had spent almost decade making movies after he got out of the army and had not performed live in a long time. The TV show led to him returning to the stage in Las Vegas and on short tours, and having some hit records n the top 10.
Favorite song you would guess it was Devil in Disguise, since its on your leg. But a banger on youtube is probably Suspicious Minds, Then Polk Salad Annie or the real banger If I can Dream.
Wish they had a fainting emoji. 😂😂❤❤❤ He’s delicious! Love his voice. He sang about 800 songs so it’s hard to pick a favorite. I love his version of Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970 live). I love a song he never sang live and only partially in rehearsal called How The Web Was Woven. I’ve always been partial to that and Tomorrow Never Comes which is a powerhouse showing off his voice. Surrender was a Big Hit and phenomenal. Thanks for reacting to him. His iconic legacy lives on. 🌹🌹🌹. I think you like the song Devil in Disguise. 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️
Old school rockabilly. I believe this was from the very beginning, when he was still with Sun Records. My favorite is It’s Now or Never, official release, not the philharmonic. No video.
My favorite is Now or Never and Suspicious Minds ❤❤❤I wanted to marry Elvis when I was a little girl and I cried when I found out that he was gone just love him forever ❤️🔥🖤🤍⚡️
I was not a screaming Elvis fan, but I have read a couple of biographies, lately, "The Last Train to Memphis" and "The Colonel" and both talk about how much he hated that suit and it took a couple of days to film the part of the special with him in the suit. There are a couple of videos of the uncut parts of him sitting down in it. He sweat so much, that it stuck to him, and it was actually made of leather. They had to rip the sems in it to get him out of it and to clean it. Austin Butler kept the one he wore in the movie. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bhlWG6wlEv8.html, and part 2, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cCOlzMzhfHU.html
It's never long enough for Elvis he was so sexy in that black leather suit my favourite at the moment it Just pretend for you I'm not sure Devil in disguise little less conversation or Kentucky rain l don't know your favourite era of Elvis obviously he was great from beginning to the end great reaction thank you 😊😊😊😊
@chlooeeeexo It's one of my favourite ones I've only known it for a couple of years I also love Such a night and Return to sender he could sing anything his range was awesome 👌
Some a bit unusual, songs people might have missed, perhaps you missed them to: Stranger in my own town (Blues jamming X rated), Lawdy miss Clawdy, He Touched Me, Let it be me, Blueberry Hill, Turn around Look at me, A mess of blues, Pledging my love
You should check the medley from the same '68 special. Would love to see your reaction to either " This is Living " or " The king of the whole wide world " but my all time favorite is always been the such underrated hit from 1973 called " where, do i go from here..? The one and only king recorded over 600 songs, so you gonna be busy for a good while.
You should hear his original version (and everything else from "The Sun Sessions", his earliest and most important recordings, that's Elvis 101. If you don't know that stuff like the back of your hand, you don't know Elvis.) His original recording from 1955 is one of his best, everything about it, the echo, the way the guitar solo comes in......it's goose-pimple inducin. And it's a cover of a song by an obscure R&B group, The Eagles (from about 1953). And when you hear the way the singer sings the song on the original, you can hear clearly the influence on Presley's singing style. People like to babble about Elvis "ripping off" black music....but they never can tell you who. They bizarrely cite someone like Chuck Berry, who NOBODY ever thought sounded anything remotely like Elvis. But when you hear the original "Tryin' To Get To You", or stuff like Clyde McPatter or Billy Ward, you see where Elvis got his "hiccup" style. (and fused it with Dean Martin crooning and country singing and all kinds of other stuff, just like any other artist)
I played the crap out of the Sun Sessions CD I had when I was in college. It drove my friends crazy. Apparently I was supposed to be listening to grunge.
Have you seen these tributes to Elvis: Love me tender by James Brown (Elvis friend), Memphis Lallaby, if you like pictures where Elvis smiles, don't miss a second, there are lots of them in this video
