I have streamer fished most of the rods you presented . The one rod that surprised me , not only in cost , affordability and punch was the Echo Streamer X . It’s a streamer specific rod I choose a 7wt so as to give me the ability to toss a number of Duffy size streamers. This is one rod that , to me out performed higher cost rods . Echo Streamer X number 1 in my books .

Well said, Leonard - thanks for your input!. Have not fished the Streamer X, but Echo seems to do an excellent job at building rods that offer far more value than the price you pay. We don't keep any in stock here at the shop, but are an Echo dealer. Great rods at an even better price point.

Thanks so much for this informative breakdown! Would love to see another video from you guys with this attention to detail on reels and especially fly lines and polyleaders for streamer fishing. Just getting into the trout streamer game here in southcentral PA and my slower action action 8'5 5wt just isn't cutting it! Having difficulty making accurate casts and turning over larger flies. Admittedly I have just been using my same rig with Cortland WF4F Trout Boss line and level fluoro leader, so definitely looking to step up to something more streamer specific. Thanks again!

Thanks Sean! Note taken on reels/lines/leaders. There's a TON of combinations out there and some better than others for sure. We recommend a shorter head in your fly line brand of choice for streamers. SA MPX & RIO Perception tapes both do a good job of moving the mass that comes with many streamer patterns. If you pair one of those floating lines with a 3''/second Rio Versileader can go a long way when paired with a 6-8wt.

Hey, just found your channel and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard so far. Good stuff! I’m looking for a new pair of waders can you guys do a comparison with the latest Patagonia Swiftcurrent Extreme Zip front vs. Sims, and maybe Orvis? Thanks and Tight Lines!

The Patagonia Swiftcurrent Expeditions are great waders. The closest comparable Simms wader is a G4 wader package. Both are great options. Patagonia waders come in at a slightly lower price point for similar features but the Simms waders are made in the US. When we help folks in the shop the number one thing we rely on is a proper fit. If they don't fit right, they won't last as long.

I have a Axiom ii 7 wt, I throw 5" weighted flies on weighted line. I casted my buddy's 6 weight redington predator 6 weight and it handled the big flies and heavy fly line better night and day better than my axiom.... Would you suggest going to an 8wt axiom ii or 7wt axiom ii X if I wanted to stay in the TFO family?

I bought a 9’ 6wt Axiom 2 and it’s done very admirably throwing flies on floating and sinking lines for my local warm water species.

Hey David! Looking to buy a 10ft 6wt sage X for small stream wade fishing. Looking for a sink line to match up with wade fishing 3-5 ft water with moderate speed and some deeper holes and big articulated flies. I’ve looked into SA 3/5 and SA 3/5/7. Could you shed some light on what you’d recommend! Thank you

I can recommend the SA 3/5 to target those depths with a heavier fly. If you are throwing lighter flies the 3/5/7 is the way to go. If you still aren't getting down you can always opt for a long leader under a floating line with a heavy fly to jig the bottom! Feel free to call the shop if you want to have a longer conversation on this topic! There are a TON of variables at play when fishing 3-5ft of water.

If you had to choose between the Asquith and the sage r8 both in 6wt for small ish’ streamers and poppers, which would you go with. I’m looking at size 6 streamers and poppers size 4 and 8. Thanks for any assistance and thoughts.

In that rod weight, the R8 Core would probably be the best fit. The Asquith is an excellent rod, but it really stands apart in an 8wt. and up. The R8 will likely be a little more versatile for throwing poppers and streamers of different sizes and weights.

How do you guys feel about the Scott radian as a streamer rod?

It could be used for that, definitely. Might not turn over weight as well as other faster rods, but will very well with small to midsized streamers. Either way, if you can find one for sale these days, it's worth snatching up - regardless of how you'll use it. The Radian has to be one of the best rods Scott has every produced.

Any advise in a tropical fly line for a 5wt 9ft redington predator?

That's a tough one! Not a ton of options for a tropical line in a 5wt. Also going to depend on what kind of flies you're throwing. But based on that rod, weight, and the warm weather conditions; your best bet is probably something like a RIO Outbound Short. Hope this helps!

The Igniter is a fast-action cannon designed to cast large flies, sinking lines and fight big fish. If you are considering one you'll need to ensure your double haul is on point!

@@hesko125 I’ve always been partial to the Scott action. I also enjoy the Winston action, however the Sage action never got me too excited. I also tend lean towards a faster stick, I am also looking to trying some new techniques, Skagit for instance, and trying to include Scott and Orvis into the contender list. Sorry, Sage.

@@billybastar4022 I have a sage foundation 4wt. In the carolinas in the small and medium water with trees and brush the roll cast feels shit. I am looking for a good do it all. Winston pure 8ft dry dropper or possible scott. Maybe sage ll. Hard to decide. Idea? I am new to intermediate.

Yeah, it's a little steep. The Asquith definitely performs like a $1200 rod and is worth the investment in the long run... But that initial price tag is a tough one for sure!
