I’m a paramedic and I work nights in an urban setting. This light has been doing wonders for me on calls where visibility is a must for safety and patient evaluation. This review pushed me in the right direction before buying. Thank you!
I just bought the coyote one partially for this reason lol. Been using a thrunite ti4 for the last couple of years and looking for a slim and powerful EDC that doesn't have a rear button since i hit it all the time.
The time limit isn't because of battery life it is because of heat. There are many ways to combat massive heat buildup from high powered LEDs, and one of the simplest and cheapest is to put a time limit on the 'boost'. Other lights use temperature sensors. Keep in mind the downside of the time limit is that if you are allowed to turn the light off and go right back to boost mode, you can actually damage the light if you keep re-activating boost mode.
@@16ft2in like best of both worlds, don’t like to rely on a specialised charger for multiple reasons but too have a type c included aswell would be sweet
Olights are fine. Great actually. I've been quite rough on 3 of the 4 models I have and not a single one has ever flickered or given me issues. You'd know that if you actually had one. But I get it, group think bandwagon sht.
I've had my pelican 7100 rechargeable flashlight for 6 years has high, low, and strobe. Even dropped in the lake and came back the same day with my diving gear and found it. Still turned right on. Love it!!
This light was built for someone like me. I'm not "tactical", nor am I an "operator" trying to relive my Black Hawk Down days. I'm just a normal guy with a normal life. My problems requiring a flashlight are "normal" problems. A while back, I bought the uber-fuhrer-maxi-mini light thinking that 15 Bajillion candlepower was something I would need when looking for dropped keys in the dark. The face on RU-vid shilling it vomited out words in the right order and convinced me that for flashlights, overkill was underrated. That I wasn't man enough if I carried anything less than an output strong enough to double for calling in airstrikes. This stupid flashlight felt like I was always carrying a roll of quarters in my pocket and I eventually stopped carrying it. I bought a Surefire Stiletto as a replacement. Not only do I carry it religiously, but I do not notice it in my pocket. It is there, at the ready. When I need it, it performs flawlessly for the situations I encounter: Finding dropped keys, looking under my office desk, etc. For me, it isn't performance (or firepower) that matters but comfort. I bet the Wedge would perform excellent as well.
The streamlight Protac-2lx is my max.. 500 lumens is plenty for outdoor and not blinding indoors. A huge flashlight isnt practical for 99% of applications and way too much for us non-operators lol
@@GPG7754 "sounds like an influencer told you to hate olight." olights are legit. The only people who bash olight are the ones who have never owned one. If you don't have experience with them, then shut the flap.
As I said on a different compliment... You can literally wash this.. after leaving in house pants accidentally!! Didn't dry! Rescued... disassembled..let dry and put back together! Perfect!!!
Nice review. I preordered one in March and received it a few weeks ago. I’ve been pleased with the amount of light output and beam quality. USB C charging is a big plus. The switch takes a little getting used to but is non-issue in the way I’m using the light. I’ve got other choices when I need tail cap operation.
I've been using mine for just under 2 months. I switched from my stiletto after it shattered from a drop. The build quality of the wedge is in my option far better than the stiletto. Battery life is also great, I really enjoy the USB c charging. The only issue I've had with the wedge is the clip. I carry it in my back left pocket and I've had it snag quite a few times and bending the clip out of having proper retention. I never had this issue with my stiletto which I carried daily for over a year. Hopefully they update the clip to be thicker and/or maybe wider.
I like the basic idea of a lot of light for a few seconds and 300 lumens is great for urban carry, but i believe they should have put something smaller there as well, like 50 lumens. In any case, a very interesting development from Streamlight.
Interesting, I am running the Streamlight Protac HL light which is also rechargeable on my home defense rifle. So far so good and I like recharging the battery way more than replacing AA or AAA batteries all the time.
That's pretty cool :) Price is reasonable as well. My only concern is the lack of a cover for the charging port, to keep out lint from daily pocket carry. But that's not a big deal.
You could probably make one really easy. They have this moldable clay like material you can use to make stuff like this really easy. I have seen it in someone's EDC kit.
Looks pretty decent. I'm really a fan of my EDC, an Olight S1R Baton II. It's tiny and goes up to 1000 lumens but I never use that mode. I know the true operators think Olight is garbage but I'm sure a fan. Flashlights are just on a whole different level than say 15 years ago only. Mostly thanks to battery technology.
if it had tip up clip mounts you could use it on the brim of your hat as a head lamp. which is a hard requirement for me. also needs to have a magnet on it somewhere for hands free. so close but so far.
I have had this light for 4 weeks now and it fits great in Ems firefighter pants. I use it every day I just wish it had a steep down to 100 lumens. The 300 is to bright for dealing with a patient or walking around when camping. I have had it come on in my pocket on accident and it got a bit warm. It snagged on my cargo pocket. Over all I will I’ve with it I love the feel of the light in my hand. Release is 2021 not 2022. :45 mark. 😉 love your reviews very honest. I love the high mode vs the olight modes. I don’t need the high that often but there when I want it.
Streamlights are excellent. This one has a design flaw... they should have an environmental seal for the charge port. That will fill with gunk and or corrode before any other part of it. Good luck once you can't charge it properly.
Pretty interesting light. I've went through 2 or 3 of the Streamlight ProTac 2AA. They just don't last more than a year or so. I'm currently rocking the NEBO inspector rechargeable. So far it's holding up. I like the looks of the wedge, but just give me a clicky button on the back.
Saw this light at cabelas was about to buy it but realized there is nothing covering the charging port so I put it back. For 100$ they could have put some sort of protective cover over it.
The stiletto seems so fat and underwhelming. I like this much better. Long and slim (and flat I suppose) is better for carrying in your pocket. It doesn't fall out as easily as a short light and doesn't flip upside down or go sideways. I liked the pro tac and stylus lights when I carried them, very pocket friendly.
EDC lights are an interesting market. New form factors seem to be the current method that manufacturers are using to hold people's attention, but in my view the best lights for serious use and reliable EDC are still the older boring ones. I find myself carrying a 1xcr123a light with a single-output scout head 99% of the time nowadays. There is no reason to over-complicate it.
As much as I like the new crop of lights, as a flashaholic, they seem to all share the same design issue. When the fancy Lithium proprietary cells, usually a mylar pak, will no longer hold a meaningful charge, you have to throw this $80 light in the trash. That's crazy! They should at least have the option to have the factory change out the cells for a reasonable charge.
Wonder if it’s possible to get in there and tinker around. Find a battery pack that fits the input/output parameters, and has a close-enough form factor to it (maybe at the cost of run time) and then solder it in to some leads. You think that’s possible or are these batteries integrated into the circuit boards, similar to how RAM is integrated into the Motherboard?
Does your wife have all of my lights as well? Because when I ask my wife where my lights are at she says she doesn't know. Thanks for the review... I'll definitely pick one... um two of these up.
100 bucks for a pre order. But I really wish the switch is on the back like a tactical light. Even if they say it's for utility, Streamlight makes pretty much most of their hand lights with tail switches
Eh, the 1k lumen mode only lasts 35 seconds at a time. Otherwise, 300 lumens is not great compared to other to other offerings. I have the Macrostream as an EDC light and having a steady 500 lumens is more convenient IMO.
Like it a lot.deeper pocket clip ,flat&180spread with 35ofTURBO.When it goes on sale will get one.maybe able to find my micro tan 250 like the one you love to carry.misplaced it many times.may have dropped it getting something out of bottom my pocket at store or something.
It’s neat for sure!!! I like the roller system with the on switch. Still seems gigantic to other slim lights haha no not the Surefire Vap pen Lol I’ll stick with my Olight half that size with 1,200 lumens 😉👍🏼😎
Thanks for the review. Just got mine. Put it on charge and it’s been on red for a few hours. Just curious what the charging time is from a low charge. Thanks.
I just ordered this flashlight. My only concern is losing it for a period of time. I have the Foursevens Preon 2 and really like that little flashlight, but it goes missing for quite a while at times and then turns back up (Does it go on a vacation somewhere)? The Preon cost about $30 the Wedge costs $100. I will have to keep better track of this one.
That open port might be water resistant, but thankfully at least one shop is making a nifty flexible cover for it. No worries.... Not here to give anyone free advertising on your channel. Just saying that anyone willing to put in some work searching online, such a product does exist.
This is great, except that dinky little clip. I don't know how I'm the only person that snags all of these clips on everything, but this clip will break/bend far enough to be useless within a week of me carrying. The only clip that I have in my pockets that still functions is the hinged clip on my ASP. Really wish companies would offer a decent upgrade to these!
