This theme isn't what you'd really expect for Ryu, but it portrays where he is in SFIII perfectly: having conquered the Satsui no Hado, Ryu now is very calm, clear-headed, and at peace. Ryu is honestly life goals.
I wished they used this in SF5 or Kobu instead of spamming the dam sf2 music again. I love sf2's ost but it's overrated and considering the game is set new 3 new generation it only makes sense.
I was in university when SF III came out, and I was excited that a new Street Fighter game was coming out. The whole SF III series had such a cool musical theme. All of the characters' themes, the intro, selection, match beginnings and endings, and ending tunes were consistent with each other, and they were so distinct from SF II. But Capcom needs to bring this one back.
For me “Rising Dragoon” from SF EX plus Alpha is his best, followed by his Alpha 2 theme, then “The Road” from Alpha 3 and “Good Fighter” from New Generation.
People complained about this not being his traditional SF2 theme when SF3 was around. So that's why they keep remixing it. Also, what's so wrong about remixing songs? The song is part of the character's identity, and remixing it lets you keep the song tied to the character while making changes to show either how the character changed or the skills of the individual composer. You're honestly gonna tell me that you don't think music like Guile's theme is iconic? If every character had a new theme in every game, they'd lose a key aspect of their character. Also, ironically, they're remixing this same song in 6, it looks like. You gonna complain about that too?
@@ShermTank7272 I don't think that's what they meant by that. Whether it's "iconic" or not isn't the issue nor is it just the fact they keep remixing the music. It's just some of us have been listening to the same song basically for decades now and are just done and want to move on to new things and hear something.... "Different". Even if it may not be as iconic or iconic enough (Which is the go to word whenever a person sees someone criticizes something popular). When you hear a song long enough you eventually will get tired of it. Even if it's good. And if they would lose a key aspect of their character explain why KOF had multiple theme music changes for their characters and have never had fans complain about the character themes being changed then? Music made by SNK in the KOF series (and games in general) were often praised by their community (and some of those outside of it like the Smash players when Terry got in). It's that kind of thing why people say Mario had his "Bland era" in I believe from 2012 all the way to 2014 or 15, and why people want new ideas in Sonic games that isn't another rehash of Green Hill Zone (Along with how the Sonic fan base engages in online warfare about what ideas should be used) Nostalgia is a good feeling to have, but its also something that is hard to let go of and that can cause things (like games) to be held back from new changes or new ideas that can just be experimented, which in turn may cause some people who want something new or different to suffer by continuing to experience the same thing. It's not bad that Capcom keeps remixing SF2 music (and SFA 1 and 2 music with Ibuki being the only character not from either entries to have her 3rd Strike theme remixed over and over), but some people are tired of the remixing is all. Even if we may be the minority in the subject at least understand where we are coming from.
I have seen many people argue about the many (or should I say four) themes that ryu had across his many appearances and personally I like them all for different reasons. His alpha 3 theme invokes the feeling of non stop practice as ryu aims to improve himself and move on from being a rookie. His SF2 theme has a heroic tone and the feeling of a never ending struggle as the battle between himself and the satsui no hado lasts for what feels like an eternity (also implied by this theme being really overused). His new generation theme shows the aftermath of said struggle as ryu is a lot more calm and clear minded when it comes to his training as he no longer as has to worry about his desire for power from ever taking over which explains why it's a lot more upbeat than the other themes. And finally his 3rd strike is a representation of ryu's concentration on training and becoming stronger with each passing day and night knowing that the answer lies in the heart of battle. While I have a lot of nostalgia for the SF2 theme I have to say the new generation theme is super underrated and the reason I really like is because it emphasizes a different part of ryu's personality. You see most of the time ryu is calm and collected he is not very talkative and doesn't mince his words at all however when you have ryu hanging out with a character like ken or sakura it reveals to us that deep down ryu is a lot more cheerful than we may think. If SF6 takes place after 3rd strike I hope that they give ryu a new theme that focuses more on that part of his character. I wouldn't like to have yet another remix of his SF2 theme, first because it's overused, and second because it no longer makes sense for ryu from a story standpoint. The satsui no hado plotpoint has helped make the character more interesting but I would say that enough time has passed for us to move on to other parts of who ryu really is.
@D F 2 I'd say it gives similar vibes to alpha in the sense that ryu is training none stop while also highlighting his enthusiasm for fighting and how far he is willing to go on to become stronger with each passing day. I have actually only heard it a while ago but it grew on me really quickly and became one of my favourite ryu themes.
People didn’t like the Dark Hadou aspect of Ryu? The world truly is big. I thought Ryu’s internalized conflict with the Dark Hadou was awesome, especially once he unlocked the Nothingness/ Dijin mode
Grand Oblivion it’s pretentious and takes away from ryus best traits. His sf2 ending says it all, he wins the tournament but never shows up for the celebration. He doesn’t care about victory he just wants a fight to learn from. “A defeat learned from is more important than a hollow victory “ “every moment gives us a chance to become more than what we are” ryu is a man always seeking to improve him self above all else and that’s what makes him cool, not this moral bull shit.
@Kolbe Santana yes I totally agree. The character just feels sort of like a cripple. Always being held back beacuse of the doubt. Thankfully it seems to be over after SF5
@@Neogears1312 Akuma is basically the "original" Evil Ryu anyway. His character was what was meant to represent everything Ryu could become if he strayed from his honest path. Evil Ryu's existence is not only pretentious, but also redundant.
@@sridrawings4510 I'd say the difference is Ryu is more serious and Goku is more goofy/dimwitted, they are both "fighting geniuses" tho and are very smart and strategic in battle, they are also good at analyzing their opponents. I wouldn't say Ken and Goku have a similar personality, Ken is just more nonchalant and laid back personality wise, he's not really naive and goofy like Goku.
Is it really a remix of this one though ? What they're going for is similar but it doesnt really feel the same. But if it was im glad it was this one and not his 3s theme lol
@@Ghaust8546 yeah it definitely isn't now that the full track is released. I typed this comment when they released a 9 second snippet of his special moves on twitter lol, the theme was playing in the background. Sounded like it in that little snippet
At this point in the Street Fighter timeline: Bison's dead. Ryu doesn't have to worry about the dictator trying to steal his body. He's mastered the Power of Nothingness. The Satsui no Hado no longer has any hold on him. Ryu can once again enjoy fighting and focus on bettering himself.
@@McGercekBaklava Yeah, originally Akuma was the one who killed Bison with the Raging Demon in Super Turbo but then it was retconned so that Ryu was the one to finish him off in SF5's story mode.
@@MrConnman123 Crazy that Sfex is the Opposite of The Main Story and in that Series after Sfex1 Akuma is Dead and Bison Is still Alive but I like Ex Bison because he looks More Serious Since It has Kairi, Garuda, Skullomania etc and I also feel he is more Powerful than Main Series Bison since he can turn into Bison 2 who looks as Strong as Shin Bison in Sf Alpha 3
Absolutely the best series of Street Fighter games. Alpha and SFIII were the best titles in the series. Moreso III because of the amazing music and ambience. The FGC was also at its best then.
In subsequent games, Ryu is barefoot. In the Alpha series, Ken had long hair that was tied with a red ribbon. He gave that ribbon to Ryu after a sparring session with him :)
Would makes so much sense since Ryu's journey is about to always learn while fighting and finding new challengers all across the globe. For me it really sets the mood for a everlasting training person.
I love the theme, but, I originally thought it felt off for someone like Ryu until I came to the realization that it’s more fitting for his stage than the character himself.
A perfect form ko-kutsu dachi. Artist knew some shit. By a simple glance i imagine trips, sweeps, drops, tortions. All in a beautiful, sunny, fresh afternoon. It's the life i want. And i'm chasing it with all my heart.
@duraznoches I say overused because like you said, theyre classic themes, but repetitive. Even though most games have the "if it aint broke dont fix it" themes in them, it get repetitive and boring.
I'm sick of remix 25 of the same old SF2 theme. Capcom needs to bring some of the character themes back from the Alpha series and SF3 2nd Impact/3rd Strike days.
This was the rythm back in the late 90s arcade scene. 1997 etc. This soundtrack fits perfectly to the style back then. And honestly i miss those days. Things were better and safer for everyone no social media no smart phones no twitter destroying the world everything. Everybody just worked played games and watched cablevision and went to school.
There are faults about social media, but the thing about social awareness is that it is simply awareness, no problems were invented, they just existed and no one cared to pay attention. Newspapers used to shock the nation and now everyone is desensitised at how fucked up the world actually is.
In my honest opinion apart from solar eclipse and south africa stage + trainign stages in SFxT and SF4, everything else is just meh, too much techno, and character themes have been mixed again (most iconic ones that is)
