This snes game has had so many discoveries this year, its legendary. Shin Akuma was found out to be playable, then this major patch restoring the game to its proper glory (Edit: Loading-wise, not music-wise). It's truly amazing.

@@MetalGateDragon I meant it as the music mod being different from the loading issue patch, and wasn't something originally in the game to be fixed. In short, the music wasn't what was broken.

The music is from the arcade version which is better than the remixed music on ps and Saturn, and the snes music. PS2 has an arcade perfect port though.

@@MalikM-VGM-Rand The music and sound programming of the original version is the main reason why the loading was so bad, so the MSU1 patch having streamed music means that the loading doesn't happen.

@Gaming0taku Yeah you're partly right, but I'm just talking about how the mod changes the music to the arcade ost. The MSU1 patch alone allows the arcade music to play, however there were other "hacks" used to bypass the sound samples loading. The only issue with the original music was that the size of the sound samples being sent to the SCP chip were abnormally large in size and thus, caused the loading issues. If the sound samples were lowered in size like how they were supposed to be, the loading would be better if not, non-existent. So I feel it's not entirely the music's fault, but rather the processing of the SCP chip.

It is a MSU1 game, it is pretty much the other name for the Nintendo playstation , new everdrive emulate the CD player and memory mapper needed for that so outside en everdrive it would need the Nintendo playstation come out.

I don't believe anyone mentioned it but when someone wins, the music no longer stops. This game has finally been fixed, I never would have imagined it. The game should have never been released the way it was, thank goodness for knowledgeable people dedicated enough to tackle this.

Street Fighter Turbo and Super SFII had that music stopping bug as well on SNES. Turbo Hyper Fighting the music is supposed to fade at the end of a round not abruptly stop at the you win/lose voice. Super music is supposed to play through between rounds 1 and 2.

The SNES audio subsystem does not have enough RAM to keep all the announcer voices in RAM with the gameplay audio, so when the game needs to play back "You Win", the SNES needs to halt the audio subsystem (which stops all the audio), unload the samples already in RAM, and load in the "You Win" sample and then play it back.

It was released the way it was because SFA2 for the Saturn and PlayStation already existed by the SNES version came out. This fixed port requires additional hardware (the MSU-1 chip) that did not exist when this port was made and an absurd amount of ROM (over 300 megaBYTES) to store the pre-recorded arcade PCM music on top of the 32 megaBITS it already uses. Capcom could not have released this hypothetical cartridge in 1996 without it costing at least $200, and at that price, people should just buy a Saturn or PlayStation for Street Fighter Alpha 2.

@@peepsg SNES Street Fighter II: World Warrior does not have "You Win/Lose" at the end of the round, which is why the music doesn't cut out. The lack of audio RAM is a problem that no SNES fighting game resolved that doesn't involve downgrading the audio samples into the toilet. Compare SNES Fatal Fury 2 against SNES Fatal Fury Special and the latter sounds like garbage for preserving the continuous music through all the rounds.

This was the first version of Alpha 2 that I ever played. It's notable because it's where I learned and perfected the raging demon input.

@@krishrama Sega Genesis.. Mega Drive has left the conversation. (Though Sega did redeem themselves with Dreamcast’s Japanese version of Super Turbo. Grandmaster challenge X for matching service.. or whatever else words they felt like throwing into the mix.

@@krishrama Unlike other chips, the Msu-1 doesn't add processing power to the Snes. Who is processing everything is the Super Nes himself.

@@krishrama Understand. As for the Sdd1 chip, it also doesn't add Snes processing power, it was only used to compress and decompress data. All this because Capcom did not want to spend on memory, since, at the time, it was something expensive. That's why there's a crash before the Rounds, because the game has uncompressed the data.

@@Vinicius-hs2rf No, the load time is caused by having to load audio data to the sound chip. These loading pauses are also present in the Street Fighter Zero 2 SNES prototype, and that uses no enhancement chip. Besides, the S-DD1 decompresses data in real time, so it can't be the source of any load time.

Though I'm a Street Fighter fan for LIFE, what about Killer Instinct SNES?! 😂 I'd say both of it and Alpha 2's fan remaster are great Alpha games are my favorite in the series with every SF3 but I'm bummed I never fought Shin Akuma in 2nd Impact. So New Generation and 3ST are my go to comfort games plus mastering the boss fight against Gill is a joy xD So it's amazing to see Alpha 2 SNES get a fan treatment of pure respect.

I played the poop out of this game back when it was new on snes. Dealt with the loading and inputs for lvl 3 supers and all. Loved it anyways.

I agree. This and MK2 on SNES are quite possibly the best fighting games of the 16 bit ere. 32x Virtual fighter....maybe as well.

They did the code for Sagat's field stage. Wow!😃 This game is really nice. Even the snes version is cool. I played Rose in this game last week, it was alot of fun.😄

SH1 is the co-processor-emulated, speedhack. MSU-1 is the CD audio hack.

Music was never a problem on SNES... It's those slow downs and graphics that made some games on sega better but still worst because it sounded like ISHT on the genesis...

I was very happy with this MSU-1 hack when it was released last year. There was a whole video showing that it was the music/sounds that was the cause of the lagging, but seeing this MSU-1 patch from 2020 confirming it really made my day. Even though Jotego released the CPS2 core for MiSTerFPGA which essentially made me forget about this. I'm also happy to see that there are always updates to this MSU-1 patch

msu1 doesnt fix the loading, the MSU1 is the chip in the cartridge that allowed us to replace the soundtrack files with arcade songs, to my knowledge the game rom can be fixed and run on any backup cartridge for snes.

@@YoVideogames I believe it does, because the loading is for the music samples, and since the MSU-1 is taking over the music, there is no loading. It's not so simple as "one line fix" or "Capcom devs screwed", they didn't, this just circumvents the problem. Still, there have been other optimizations made which weren't in the original release.

The MSU-1 does not fix the loading directly. The ROM was hacked to eliminate the loading of music into the audio RAM, which saves enough time that this eliminates the load times. If that's all that was done to the ROM, you will have no load time and NO MUSIC in the game. That's where the MSU-1 comes in. The ROM is also hacked to call up the MSU-1 to play back PCM music files from its own separate storage of up to 4 GIGABYTES, which is how this hacked ROM can have music with the load times hacked out of it.

That is one way to go about it. The loading problem is a coding error and what takes the game so long to load is actually the way it is accessing the music files. This patch fixes that and it turns out the SNES was more then capable of running it smoothly all along. The replaced music in this video would require a cartridge with vastly more memory to store these music files as well as a MSU1 chip in the cartridge to ignore the SNES sound chip and output high quality music via the MSU1 instead.

Do you have a version of Street Fighter Alpha 2 that has Loading fixed and still keeps the default in-game music? Since this version of Msu-1 the emulator I use cannot listen to the added Arcade music.

You can't, part of what caused the slowdown is the music sequences and instruments. The 64K of memory on this version doesn't have to worry about music or instruments and actually puts some missing sfx back in because of it ("you win"), also the sound can technically stream samples depending on the sound system so it's possible they were streaming needed and unneeded samples in and out of Audio RAM in real time. The original SFA2 on SNES couldn't do that hence the slowdown. One enhancement they could possibly do in the future is the SA-1 chip enhancement to speed the game up slightly. I noticed this version is less laggy than the original so it could be there already though. The "Z" rotation before fights is also fixed as it looks like it has way more frames of animation. Maybe the hackers replaced it with a Mode 7 version?

I thought the voices would have to be removed so no more load times get added. Either that, or all of the character voices got decompressed so the game won't have to load and decompress select voice clips at the same time.

At the time the game originally came out, those limitations in the technology at the time were the only reason for the game being released the way it was. But with a better understanding of the hardware from back then, using the technology that we have access to now allows us to go back and fix or completely remove the issues that plagued this and many other games in the first place.

you can patch the game and run it through any everdrive style catridge on a SNES. However if you want to replace the music with the arcade soundtrack you would need a very special and expensive style of SNES catridge.

Frogger was the last game on both SNES and Genesis in the US- you can argue Star Fox 2 technically since it 'released' via the SNES classic a few years ago.

Kirby's Dream Land 3 was the last major SNES game to come out of Nintendo. Harvest Moon was also '97. I'm pretty sure Street Fighter Alpha 2 came out around the same time as Super Mario RPG the way I remember. Those were the good days of going to the rental store every Friday
