Stephen Shore wrote about how a painter composes an image from a blank canvas whereas a photographer composes an image from the messiness of the real world. The photographer brings order to it. The book is "The Nature of Photographs" and it's a very fast, easy read. Most of the time, I'm reacting when shooting photos on the street, but maybe I should try slowing down sometimes and looking for those romantic paintery moments.
All the pictures I used are from downloaded from Google, I searched for romanticism, realism and impressionism and then I chose those painting of famous painter to show my point and create connection.... But I did think about repainting my own photographs or editing them to look like they are painted ...
I also am inspired to begin this research - I plan to use my city library (only a small city), I have read their entire shelf of photography. They also have an interloan service, ie. they get your requested title from other libraries. Best of luck, greetings from New Zealand.
