Do you have a favourite street photographer? Who or what is your muse? Let me know.

Looking at/"reading" pictures is like therapy. It awakens thoughts, memories, associations. This happens with passion and pleasure. It enables contemplation and deceleration. - Thank you, Marlene. Watching your videos is like talking to a friend.

I loved this video and the War of Art too. I thin street work is a good compliment to bird photography. In both cases you’re scanning the horizon, anticipating an opportunity and then shooting quickly. Hey, your street photos are wonderful. I would love to see more of them. BTW Vivian Maier inspired me to buy a Rolleicord and shoot some 120 film.

Thank you for your kind words. I’d like to do more street photography. I tend to do it mostly when I travel or when I’m on photo walks. But looking back over my photos I realized I’m not engaging with my subjects. Probably as I’m quite shy. Need to work on that a bit! Happy to hear you’re very inspired by Maier as well. And great that 120 film is still available. Do you print your photos too? Nice chatting with you. Cheers!

Hi Marlene. Very nice video. One of my favorite things to do is street photography. At this time, I only shoot with Panasonic. Hi from Sandpoint, Idaho USA.

I definitely want to do more street photography myself. I spent hours looking through my archives for this video and realized that I have a nice collection that needs building upon. Cheers!

I watched a documentary recently about Vivian Maier what an insight into the her life and work I really enjoyed seeing her work, prolific photographer. Well worth a watch. Thanks Marlene a very welcome video and the importance of taking inspiration from past masters👍

Love the way you straight talk in this video! ‘… so get off your in…gram feed and …’ I like all of the street photrappers work you mention, and, in my humble opinion, your spot on, with visiting the exhibitions in real life, if you’re fortunate enough to get to travel to them. One of my favourite photographers work is Saul Leiter but love many others works too, it’s also interested to note how all of the masters developed their styles, especially as they bridged and grasped new tech, although many resisted that too! Thanks Marlene. 👍.

Thanks for the Saul Leiter tip. Very interesting work and quite diverse in subject matter in terms of personal and commercial work. I’ll have to check out the documentary made about him. Cheers.

I was privileged to see the Vivian Maier expo in the UK last year, just wow! The documentary was good too, what an extraordinary woman. I’m off to Paris for 3 days later this month, was going to take my G9 and 14-140 lens, but now decided to take the little LX100 instead, it’s a great little camera and suits Street Photography so well, plus small, light and fits snuggly in my hand with a wrist strap. Sometimes it’s nice to travel light😊

@ImageMaven 11 месяцев назад
Hello Sue, I heartily agree that the LX100 is the perfect holiday and street camera. It’s rare I take a big camera on holiday anymore. Great to hear you’re a fan of Vivian Maier. Her photos are such a slice of life. She is my favourite street photographer. Have an awesome time in Paris! Cheers.

I recently read that a Maier exhibition (200 works) is coming to NY in May 2024 at Fotografiska. May need to check that out as I'm in New England, so not too far.

Yes definitely worth a look! And lucky you to see them in person. I was struck by the difference between seeing the Arbus photos in person compared to books or online.

What a hard task picking a favorite street photographer. I’ll pass over some of the obvious suspects. More Saul Leiter but also Ernst Haas. Shocking to me as both are color photographers as I love B&W images. The L monochrome D jpeg is my favorite setting on my G9 & GX9. So contrasty. I love crunching my blacks. Here is a thought. Your skateboard images are a sort of street photography. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Lovely show and wonderfully inspiring. You continue to be such a go to person for my photography growth. Thank you for all your hard work and consistency! And, of the 3 stated photogs, Maier seems to have captured my sense of still life and history background. I look forward to looking in to her more, thanks for that little jewel!! Personally, images that bring about emotional thought or that pull me in to consider myself to have been there when the shot was made, are things about street photography that I love. I would have to say that, Saul Leiter and Brassaï, are two of my favorites. There are some pics that they caught that just keep me staring! :) Looking forward, always, to your work ahead!!

Thank you Steve. Yes I agree, Maier is my favourite of the three I mentioned, and she's probably my favourite street photographer ever. We are so fortunate to have her work available online. And there's still more of her undeveloped film out there. Definitely try and catch the film if you can. I'll check out Saul Leiter. That's a new one for me! Cheers!

This stair on the Cartier-Bresson photo with the bicycle still exists in Hyères city in the South of France. I was there few weeks ago. It was strange to be at the same place than this famous photographer when he took this famous photography !

@@ImageMaven No I was in Hyères city new museum "La Banque" for a Man Ray exposition on ground floor, and saw this photo exposed in the permanent collection on first floor, with its title "Hyères" below it. So I was curious to see if this stairs still exist today in the city, so I quickly searched some infos on the internet and found a global location : Edith Wharton avenue. Then I walk to it and found the stairs at the start of this street ! Amazing time travel experience :)

Love your channel....Since the Lumix g9 II came out there have been lots of reviews on it. However cannot find any comparisons of the G9 and the new G9 II....What are your thoughts? thank you....
@ImageMaven
@ImageMaven 11 месяцев назад
Well I likely won't get my hands on the G9ii any time soon as it won't be released in Canada for awhile yet. But having said that the biggest changes that interest me and my photography are the new 25MP sensor, and the new Phase Detect AF with subject detection. The OM-1 has some of the same specs as the G9ii far as AF goes. So both are great for birding and wildlife, motorcycle racing etc, and both have high burst rates. The original G9 is so "old" now that I doubt anyone will be making comparison videos with it. They'll be more likely to compare it to the OM-1. Thanks for stopping by to chat. Cheers.

Yes, something to consider. However, sometimes I think it's easier to just buy something instead of "paying it back" by making RU-vid videos, which in my case take many hours per video. (Can you tell I've grown weary of producing YT content?) The G9ii is supposed to get to Canada at the end of October. I'll think it over. (I keep asking myself if I want to do one more series of videos before quitting RU-vid.) Of course I already like the camera, just based on reviews that others have made. Check out Emily @microfournerds if you haven't already. She's young and full of great energy and was given a G9ii for a few weeks and has it on a Kenyan safari right now. She's more of a reviewer of gear and I'm more of a "how-to-setup-and-use-gear" creator. That's the old teacher side of me. But now I must ask you.... are you planning on getting one? Great to have a chat with you. You're one of my long time loyal people who keeps me going on those days I want to quit this content creation game. Best wishes, and thank you kindly for reaching out. Marlene G9 ii ..same body as S5ii loads more video features and options .."log" My wish❤ G100 phase focus . No crop 4k.same sensor G9 ii .. do you sometimes (always)..life's becoming too complicated.. when looking back at Photos through history .. photos that still hit the spot .. their cameras were simple basic .. perhaps content is more important rather than the device ...
