Freak Alley. What might seem like graffiti at first glance is in reality a curated gallery in the middle of downtown Boise, Idaho. A never-ending visual explosion of creativity and color! This is the setting I chose to share my thoughts on the Nikon D850 after a year of playing and learning about all this guy can do. I love to experiment with street photography now and then, finding interesting light in alone and out-of-the-way scenes. I hope you enjoying coming along with me on this photo walk in the street gallery that is Freak Alley.

Thanks for sharing great photos .I love the fact iv never had to edit a photo out of the camera , nef raw in the menu has plenty of options to change /fine tune your images into what i pre visualised as i took the shot .

Hey, Misti. I am happy to learn you are well pleased with your camera choice. It can be such a big disappointment when you have high expectations for some gear, having done the research and all, only to find that in use it falls short. I share your reasons for upgrading gear. Your points are practical and sensible. When the artist needs a new tool in order to achieve the vision, that is the time and reason to acquire it. I will visit that alley, if ever I make it to Boise. You came away with nice images from there.

I took my d850 to Europe and Egypt for 7 months. Just got back in fact. The camera never missed a beat. Not ever. The best thing was the way it was able to handle the low light in the dark tombs in Luxor.

I've had my D850 for about 9 months now and have loved every minute of the upgrade from my D7200. I picked it up in large part from watching your upgrade video and I decided it was time. I went full in getting the body, the 24-70, 200-500, 14-24, 16-35, and a whole host of accessories to go along with that. It was a very good year last year! Keep up the great videos, and I'll keep clicking along side you with my camera!

I had NO idea Boise had an Art District, that is really cool... The hot shoe protecter I got for my D850 is one of those black rubber convex one on amazon that has a tiny spirit level in the center, very handy when setting on rocks or something for quick leveling. I also just love my D850, best camera I ever owned and, and that is coming from an OG Nikon shooter since the mid 70s as well as large and medium format (film), every kind of digital format, etc. but I gotta get a hold of one of those quick guides, what a great idea. Love your channel btw, keep up the wonderful work.

Ohhh, one with a level would be handy! And yes, there’s a lot to love about Boise, full of surprises. In fact, it’s becoming a bit of a foodie town as well. I’m finding that many people with a vast knowledge of various cameras are big fans of the D850, for good reason! 👍🏻

@@artsilva Culinary town on a small scale of course! But it’s fun seeing new and interesting restaurants pop up recently. I hear there’s even a new speakeasy style bar that’s like stepping 100 years back in time. Super cool! That’s what I’ve been hearing about the D850… the best DSLR out there! It’s very reassuring that I picked a good one.

Hello, i remember one of your first video with d850 ... I don't want to spend budget for a z8 and a few z lenses! So i wanted to upgrade my d780 .main reason was resolution. But now i bought one d850 secondhand, and i descover much more reasons. Even live view with ais lenses. It folow head of subject so you can check sharpness easily on eyes! (So i don't have to buy zf) and this weekend, i was surprised by efficiency of 3d af tracking.... I wanted to thank you because your enthusiasm made me open the choice... Best regards ☀️📷☀️

Hi. You made a huge jump from a D7000 to a D850. I used to shoot with a D7000. I still have it. I gave it to my son as I was shooting with my D610 but then I upgraded to a D850 so I upgraded him to my D610. I love my D850. It is really helping to me capture so much more than before especially with my wildlife photography. I am enjoying your videos so keep them coming and thank you.

Sounds like you’re from the area? I enjoyed shooting with my D7000 for many years before upgrading! I only felt the need to upgrade when I started showing my work in galleries, needing to print larger.

I enjoyed your street photography work and what you had to say about this beautiful beast of a camera. I've had mine since 2018 and love it, I also bought the Nikon Z7 at the same time and both are wonderful. They have very similar features which makes for a great backup. I was teaching a class when the clouds decided to piss on us and the D850 which was on the tripod got quite wet and I can tell you (wetter than a waterfall spray) it handled the rain perfectly with the Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8e. I've got friends who has sold theirs to go with the Z9 and regret getting rid of it (not because of issues with Z9) they just felt they should have kept both. In my opinion it is one of Nikon's best DSLR and will be for some time.

I haven’t had a chance to go the mirrorless route yet. I just upgraded my lenses a year prior to getting the D850, so I wanted to stay with dslr because it fit my budget. I have nothing against mirrorless, I just found it wasn’t for me just yet.

What lens are you using in the video is it the 24-70 Nikon lens? You have it mounted in most of your videos?

Yes, it’s the Nikon 24-70 lens. I love this one for photo walks like this. It has a great range to work with!

What a beautiful city core, very different from the litter infested city cores in Canada. I've been documenting the decline of our cities in Ontario and this is a nice breath of fresh air. Are most cities in Idaho this well maintained?

To be honest, we do have areas that are a little on the seedy side, but all-in-all I think Idahoans do a good job of keeping our cities well maintained.

The D850 is fantastic value - I still have one. The G lenses are incredably cheap now. Crappy Video asside - It can do nearly eveything my Z9 or Z8 can do ...🦘
