The song was inspired in-part by the movie 'Big Fish." There is a scene in the movie where the main protagonist sees the love of his life and time stops but then time fast-forwards and she leaves before he can meet her. The song is a little fantastical like the movie...sometimes you want to stop a moment and live within the frame. M
This 'live-ish' demo was recorded back when Elderveil was more than just me (Matt.) I believe Dan Johnson: Drums, Brandon Livingood: Electric Guitar) and I (Vocals/Acoustic Guitar/Bass) recorded our instruments with scratch vocals live and then I went back and added the Bass and better Vocals after. I wish we would have taken it into a studio. Dan's drums on this song are so good!
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
There's a symphony on these city streets
A streetlight serenade for everyone around
And for the thousand words I may write tonight
I can't seem to speak even one aloud
Lead:
Say anything, just a word
Chorus:
Excuse me but may I have this dance tonight
And photograph the starlight in your eyes
I could live in this moment for the rest of my life
If I could only stop the world tonight
Verse 2:
She's the one who sings the city to sleep
I'm graced by the starlight, and her melodies
And as her eyes and mine finally meet
Gravity pulls my eyes to my feet
Lead:
Say anything, just a word
Chorus:
Excuse me but may I have this dance tonight
And photograph the starlight in your eyes
I could live in this moment for the rest of my life
If I could only stop the world tonight
If I could only stop the world tonight
Lead:
Say anything, just a word
Beautiful - You are so beautiful
Chorus:
May I have this dance tonight
And photograph the starlight in your eyes
I could live in this moment for the rest of my life
If I could only stop the world tonight
If I could only stop the world tonight
If I could only stop the world tonight
