so glad we're past the dark phase of history where beat-em-ups were dismissed for being 'too repetitive'. what a crock of bollocks. all genres can be repetitive, you just have to design them properly.
Blaze is such a joy to play especially if you have fighting game experience. You can get a few extra hits after landing Blaze's blitz OTG: Blitz OTG > Attack x5 (air juggle) > then go into the usual Jump Down-attack x2 > Air Special. Only works in the corner/wall on non-heavy enemies. I always use this combo on multiple enemies (if it's safe to do so) to try and extend the combo meter for points.
@shotstar3 Yeah this game relies more on insane points than lives though having a lot of lives can help with the score as well, it just isn't as important as doing out of this world and sick combos a lot.
@shotstar3 i think a lot of the complaints about difficulty would go away if they changed the scoring system. as it is, the only way to get crazy combos is basically not get hit--which is not a reasonable expectation at the hardest level of a side scroller.
@@bethnor Not getting hit is a fair expectation when score is basically only a mean to show how good you are compared to the rest of the world. The problem is that in SOR4, you can get hit a lot, lose a lot of lives, and still completely outperform a no death run where the player wasn't able to link certain fights or had a lot of out of the world combos broken by inoffensive jabs. The game should reward health and lives more. A thousand points for each spared life at the end of a mania arcade run is a bit ridiculous when a single unbroken combo can net you more than 10K.Also since points awarded by combos already follow an exponential curve, there's no reason to make players lose all of them when they get hit. Someone who keeps his combo up to the 2nd part of stage 1 then loses it will score much lower than a total noob who didn't link any fight at all and screwed half of his combos.
@@KrieGor27 that's... what i'm saying? with the current system, players have to not get hit in order to get crazy scores. but not getting hit AT ALL is not a reasonable goal for a beat 'em up. they should change the scoring system. at least one change should be item drops. because money is almost irrelevant, they either need to make the money worth more, or money needs to drop more often. or straight up have 1-ups as a dropped item. i've thought of two possible changes. one (as others i believe have proposed), you should continue to accrue bonus points the longer combos go on, with extra bonus points if it's completed. second: a combo is first hit until enemy knockdown. this will be multiplied by every enemy caught in your attacks. special bonuses if the combo is a TOD. each completed combo will be awarded a certain amount of bonus points. if you string a whole bunch of these together uninterrupted, a special bonus on top. this could also have been avoided altogether if players hadn't been graded.

Those jumping "Diamond" girls are tough. I've been either avoiding them by moving down, jumping, or doing the back handspring move. But I still take so much damage.
So I've played this game through to the end a bunch of times, played stage 1 even more than that, watched vids like this, and one thing never occurred to me until now. That car that smashes into the wall in stage 1... who was driving it? Were they still inside when we as the player punched it so much it exploded? Did we murder somebody?
Whether or not you want a balance patch for the difficulty curve, i am all for balancing the characters. Also I am also for saying to hell with armour junk. Made the game slower
Brawlers are my favorite genre of game since the original arcade Double dragon. I hope they come back. The hit sound effect in this game is weirdly lame sounding. Like a paper fan slap, as opposed to the whip crack or bone shattering noises of old martial arts films and classic brawlers. I find it off putting in an otherwise great game. Also I wish the player characters all dash / run. And perhaps add some branching paths like D+D/ Guarduan Heroes or even m fav version of SoR: the Remake
I think I have an idea for Streets of Rage 5, they can face off with a new enemy much worse than the syndicate, she may force them to team up with the Y twins.
I like what I am hearing my friend, it is a huge possibility, especially when their father Mr X abandons them for failing him. For all four games it has been Mr X or his minions controlling the city, you want a real war? Then bring in another organisation to rival that of Mr X and for once make Mr X a playable character for a mission or two. Stay Safe Always My Friend
I can see everyone loves the new patch not surprisingly! 😇 They should have released the game like that as well, however some still complaining about the difficult levels like ,,mania became hard now,, and stuff like that! 🤨 🤨
I do love the patch a lot, but some of the nerfs were a little too much. To me the only nerf they should do besides reducing/removing armor is fixing the Stage 7 boss fight on hardest/mania, and I would be fine with pretty much everything else.
@@masterlee1988 Don't even mention the boss fight on trian stage, on the original patch it was absolutely disgusting I smashed my controller into my bedroom door once because of the commissioners battle at mania, lost 3 lives! I don't even understand why they put 2 commissioners at there since only one exist, I mean who is the 2nd one a clone or something!? 😵 😵
@@Chrismario880 Ha, the devs just put an extra one there to constantly get in your way. Before the patch it was the hardest part of the game on Mania but now it's much easier. The fat guys onslaught on the last stage on Mania is harder now but doable if you can do good crowd control.
@@masterlee1988 Yes the Big Bens battle on last stage is tough have no doubt about it, but I still stay the new patch is splendid and balanced even if some of the scene/stages are easier than it should be no-one would wish for the 1st patch back!
Such a piece of shit game. Only thing interesting about it is the extreme gore and the Soviet setting. Dont think Ive seen that in this type of game before.
I hated how haphazardly they used the retro soundtracks in certain parts because it didn't fit the mood imho. Also, they should use SoR1 soundtrack for the Genesis.
It changes a lot of the game from character improvements(and some nerfs), mostly nerfs of some enemies but a few buffs for others, changes in the stages themselves from enemy placement to health items and such.
