I have this Fight n Rage on disc. What a treasure. It's a beat'em up with special move inputs like a Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. So unique and a blast to play.
The Same Developer that Created Double Dragon Gaiden Also Made A few lil Beat em Up Gems called Streets of Red and Stay Cool Kobayashi-A River City Story......
There isn't a game on this list that is not worth paying full price for. So regardless of what price you find them at, if you are a fan of beatem up games, pick them up. Although most games on this list are very cheap at almost all times provided you know where to look
River City Girls 2 is my favourite beat 'em up of all time. Thank you for shining more light on it. The first one, Fight 'N Rage and Double Dragon Gaiden are also very good.
there was 5-10 better games he could have mentioned. having to see ninja turtles shredder's revenge and river city girls eyecancer over and over again is nauseating in every fking vid.
For noobs to Beat’em ups either Dragons Crown or Mayhem Brawler is good to start. Mayhem Brawler was one of my first proper Beat’em ups and it is easy to play yet satisfying to deal out combos and juggles.
A great modern beat em up that you didn't mention is Mayhem Brawler. The art is just like in SOR 4, branching paths, nonstop action, and even voice acting in the comic book style cut scenes. Do check it out, Top Hat 😊
I dare say the combat is better than SoR 4. The lack of running, dodging, blocking in SoR 4 infuriates me. There is almost no movement and defensive options. Mayhem Brawler is super fun to pull off sick combos while having all these defensive options.
I picked up Fight 'n Rage years ago. Instantly fell in love with it. Played it through to 100% Achievements and Completion. I hope a sequel is somewhere down the line, 'cause I'm genuinely interested in where they take the story, simplistic as it is. The sheer amount of content and even the ability to play AS every enemy type in the game is just a bonus. It's a real gem. Highly recommended. I played through River City Girls over a free weekend. I found the gameplay engaging and enjoyable, but I feel like the story really dragged it down. I get that it was meant to be campy but I don't really feel like you're actually accomplishing ANYTHING. The entire purpose of the girl's rampage is... **SPOILERS*** ...based entirely upon a false pretense and it ends at the exact same page that it starts on. ***SPOILERS END*** I felt the game was weaker for it. I haven't tried the sequel yet. I have to admit I did emulate Scott Pilgrim during that 10 year timespan that it was completely unavailable. Good game and gameplay, but I'm never the biggest fan of RPG elements in my Beat-em-ups. It makes some stages virtually impossible early on, but once your characters reach a certain level it practically trivializes the game even on hard mode until and unless you reset their stats. Not my favorite gameplay element. Shredder's Revenge is fantastic. Another game I've 100%-ed but I feel like having six players at a time and easily spammable super attacks hurts the game as there's simply too much happening on-screen at any given moment. The Dip Switch options can help with that. Also the game runs long. Really long. A full arcade run through will net you over two hours of gameplay and that can get stale pretty quickly. Story-mode is fun for a quick romp but there's no real middle-ground between 'one stage at a time in small bits' for story mode which trivializes the game as all stats and lives reset between stages vs 'the entirety of the story mode in a single runthrough' with Arcade mode which becomes a real gauntlet. Some people prefer that, but be ye warned. Haven't played any of the others but I've looked at Double Dragon before.
The sequel has a better story, and I find it refreshing that the whole game was ironically happening because of a misunderstanding. Also, it ties up a bit of a loose end in the Kunio-Kun lore, though, in the process, also kind of makes a bit of an issue for the River City and Street Gangs lore in the process. Also, the sequel truly begins from the prequel, and it also ties in the second Kunio-Kun game, a.k.a., River City Girls Zero, to the first game, and it is truly a revenge story to that other game.
One of my favourite beat em ups of all time is Guardian Heroes. It was originally on the Sega Saturn, then got remastered on the xbox 360 (can still get on series x/s via gamepass). It had a decent story, branching paths, multiple endings, skill points, and an amazing ai companion that you can give basic orders to. It also has a battle mode where you can pit up to 6 characters against each other, either in teams (3v3, 5v1 etc) or just have a free for all. The remaster increased it to 12 characters. You can play as every single character in the game which you unlock via story progression in the main campaign.
A few games that are rarely mentioned are all on psp. Unbound saga is in many ways a spiritual successor to comix zone on megadrive it did get a western release but its not an easy game to emulate as i could neved get it ro run with sound on ppsspp. 2 other games that neved made it out of japan that are definitely worth checking out are ikki toussen xcross impact and ikki toussen eloquent fist. Very similar graphical asthetic to streets of rage 4 but was released well over a decade prior. Heavy fan service in both those games (boingy bouncy boobies) but underneath all that is a very solid and very good-looking pair.......of beat em ups 😂. Deffo worth copping a look. Fighting rage did have a discount a few months back. I know as i bought it on steam, and im pretty sure i paid less than a 5er for it.
With your discounts you should mention in the video that these are for steam and not for consoles unless you expect people to read your comment every single time. A little specification is helpful. On top of that steam is digital. There are those out there who not support digital. Speaking of consoles, some of these games do have physical copies, and i personally would have a physical copy. Also, not everyone plays pc.
As I stated in the video, the website has thousands of discounts and people can click any of the links and select deals appropriate for their platform. I prefer physical games too but that's irrelevant to this video.
I have an honest question, do you mispronounce things on purpose? Like, as a gag? There's just no way you played through the entirety of RC Girls and didn't hear the name "Kyoko" at least ten thousand times. Absolutely no offense meant, I'm just noticing a pattern here. XD
I have a South London accent, my verbiage is automatically going to sound very different from your average American voice actor. I say the names how I remember them.
@@TopHatGamingManChannel Ooooh, I see. That explains it, then, apologies for misunderstanding. Thanks for the answer, I genuinely appreciate it. Again, sorry if I came across wrong in any way, was just curious, and you have satisfied my curiosity. That was really nice of you. ;D
Fight N Rage, Raging Justice, Mother Russia Bleeds, Final Vendetta, Mayhem Brawler, The Takeover. All solid games. Putting TMNT Shredder's Revenge in this isn't comparable, it doesn't need to be in every fking beatemup list like it's a good game, it's not. its on every list. it doesn't need to be. and the first river city doesn't need to be on here either (you list both?) ;/ sheesh. make room for some other titles if you're going to do these, does the other games that could use more views a disservice.
I just wanna add, Phantom Breaker is also originally a fightinggame that takes some inspiration from Asuka 120% which eventually took inspriation from Darkstalkers, and before that of course, it was an SFII clone. EDIT: One more thing I like to add is that the modern port of Scott Pilgrim wasn't worth it to me honestly. Mainly because you have to make an account with Ubisoft to get the DLC. Some people already had a problem with the fact that you games that are digitially distributed can be delisted at any moment with no way of getting the game (unless you already bought it), which was one of the first times in gaming where people challenge digital only gaming. After that those same people definitely didn't like having to make a separate account to get the DLC, so I would recommend modding your Xbox 360 or your PS3 (which by the way, the game is also on PS3 just to let you know) if you wanna play Scott Pilgrim.
I own Streets of Rage 4, River City Ransom Girls, River City Ransom Underground, Fight-N-Rage, and Mother Russia Bleeds all on my gog account (no DRM!).
Steam has a lot of these games as well fir cheap!!! Great video, more like this. Love your taste in video games. Gotta find your way to thr US for Too Many Games con. You could jump in the cosplay wrestling ring!!
I know of Phantom Breaker, but not because I played it, or saw it on Steam, but because the music video for the song Move by I Fight Dragons, used this game.
Raging Justice could be a more satisfying game if the playable characters were better designed. They're a little too plain. But the gameplay is very solid.
There is a Power Rangers game. I think it's coming out this year. It looks fantastic. At least I hope it's going to be fantastic. It looks similar to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredders Revenge.
bro 50% of these games has nothing to do with street of rage .. specially the first & second one .. they are just beat em up games but its not necessarily means they look or feel like street of rage ,, its totally different
I specifically said Streets of Rage 4, not Streets of Rage. Streets of Rage is a modern beat em up and all the new beat em ups share common elements that make the Gameplay distinct from those that came out in the 80s and 90s. Beyond that, the title was partially chosen for search engine optimisation and based on previous existing knowledge that my built in core audience like Streets of Rage 4. If you can think of a title that would result in a higher click through rate that the title I already have though, I'd love to hear your suggestions. The word beat em up though from experience is a poor search term.
The audio in Streets of Rage 4 needs to be updated/improved, namely the sound effects for the attack impacts. That is part of what made SOR2 so amazing! They got this wrong in SOR4...
Who plays beat'em ups for "narrative"? It's like playing video games for "emotional connection" What happened to playing for fun like we used to (and some of still do) 😂😂😂
