In order to sit, stand, walk, and exercise with balance, strength, and coordination, the muscles around your hips MUST be balanced. What I typically see in most Gymmers are weak outer hip muscles and tight inner hip muscles.
It’s a bit counterintuitive but tight adductors that lead to knees caving inward can actually be “loosened” by strengthening them (weird, I know).
Tight adductors happen because your brain senses instabilities in your hips. To stabilize your hips, it then “locks down” your adductors to create a more stable joint.
When you practice moving your tight adductors in and out of contraction, your brain learns to use those muscles again. This exercise isolates your adductors and can really help reduce MS symptoms like knee kiss, knee hyperextension, and scissor gait.
The keys to performing this drill well:
1. Sit tall.
2. Hold your abs in.
3. Move from your upper inner thigh.
4. Breathe out as you pull - Breathe in when you return to start

I’ve been doing your exercises and several others on a daily basis. I’m probably exercising 1.5 - 2 hours a day, plus I do 20 min walks now every day. This is as of approx 4 weeks ago, and today is a third day I’m walking without any back pain. There is still a slight foot drop (my right leg) and lack of balance, but I’m much better now compared to how I was a month ago. I mean, I couldn’t even stand on my feet in the mornings, and I was getting very depressed as a result. Now I’m feeling much more positive. I’m definitely going to stick with your exercises for the next two months, i want to see how much my legs and back will improve!😊

I am a Stroke Warrior of 5 years and almost 9 months. I found you because of the shutdowns of life in 2020, just as I was making a real transition from my rolly-walker to my cane. I have made great progress since then because you, Coach T, kept me going ❤ I am now in 1x per week formal PT, 1x in a pool, and the rest with you. Getting off my cane has eluded me and frustrated me to no end. I think this exercise just might be my missing link! I believe this is the one that will fully work to strengthen my inner thigh muscles. Just in time, too. My first grand baby is due in 6 weeks and I can’t wait to be able to easily carry her around, get up Dan down from the floor to play, and love her like a proper Mimi♥️

I have MS and one of my legs is not weak, in fact it's relatively normal. Should I do this exercise on both legs the same way?

I’m in the same boat. My gym trainer says keep the strong side strong. Do the exercise on the strong side as well.

Thanks for explaining this Trevor. I've had pt that have me do this and I'm pretty good at that but now I know it will help my balance, thus will definitely focusing on this exercise.

The exercise I used to do was lay on my back (knee's bent & upright) take turns drop one leg to one side then returning to centre. Do this both sides. 🤨
