It is helpful to set the plant up high in potting mix on a mound to avoid root rot. Do not bury any of the red stem.

Beautiful plants. I’d love to grow some. Thank you for another very informative video.

You are very welcome! They bloom beautifully, although they do take up more space than African Violets. They are easy growers though, I grow them the same way as the violets, so definitely recommend!

That was so helpful! I'm new to streps so thank you! Wow that had a lot of babies! They must look awesome by now!

So glad it was helpful! The babies are doing fine, growing slowly but surely :-)

Wow you can make alot of them from division. Up to now I tried babies with leaves, and potted a keiki. Leaves work nicely but often the babies need to be repoted under dome because too few roots. But when they root individually it makes really nice plants that bloom well. The keiki I hoped would make a nice single rosette, but instead it made many baby crowns that will have to be separated ( too crowded ), delaying the much-anticipated flowers again. P.S. : My leaf propagations just start making roots after 1 month, leaves start after 2 months, then the babies need to grow for a little while ( 5cm+ leaf baby is good, but tiny ones will also survive in mini-greenhouse ). Some varieties are ready faster, and make more babies per leaf than others. Search for video tutorials and try, it's fun and you can gift or sell your extra babies.

thanks as always for all the work and the thought you put into making your videos! i've been in love with Dale's Polar Canary since i saw it in your blooms video some months back. maybe i can buy one of the divisions from you (along with Little Axel and Funambule) when the weather warms up in the spring. i'll keep my eye on ebay. meanwhile, i'll be looking forward to more videos. thanks again!

Dale's Polar Canary is quite a looker, indeed! Hope those separated babies root well, fingers crossed. Just put down a few leaves of LIttle Axel and separated babies of Funambule, so hope they do well by spring 2021! Appreciate your interest!

I’m also starting to grow Streps. Curious, have you tried or considered using a rooting powder when propagating Streps or AVs?
@grayturtleviolets

I bought the rooting hormone and after having tried once with violets haven't noticed much difference, so I stopped using it. Haven't tried it with Streps yet, that's a good idea!

Hi! I just found your channel a few days ago and I'm having so much fun going through your videos. I started collecting Streptocarpus in May and have become a loyal customer of The Violet Barn. I am now starting to collect African Violets and I'm most interested in the mini variety. The last couple months my Streps have been looking more sad and I'm researching what grow lights to get. Do you have any videos on lighting? Thanks!

Welcome! I am just now working on my light video, hoping to publish it in the next few weeks. I have two LED light setups, and also grow in natural light - will cover all the details in the upcoming video, including the product links to where I bought mine. Stay tuned!

Hello greeting from Canada a question this plants roots the same as violets? Thank you 🙋🏼🇨🇦
@grayturtleviolets
@grayturtleviolets 3 года назад
When propagating from leaf cuttings, I've seen it done by rooting a whole leaf, like violets, and also rooting sections of a leaf. I tried propagating a whole leaf the same way as I do in my African Violet Propagation Tutorial, and it produced 1 baby. There is also another method, where a leaf is divided in half and then planted horizontally, it produces more babies this way.

Hello gray turtle do you know the streptocarpus pretty turtle? Thick dark green leaves and white veins on the leaves. Mine is growing and growing and growing but there are no blossoms showing up. Do you know that vatiety and the color of the blossom?
@grayturtleviolets
@grayturtleviolets 3 года назад
There are so many of them, no way of telling what the blooms will look like! Try giving it more light - mine like part natural/part artificial-LED light combo.

@grayturtleviolets
@grayturtleviolets 3 года назад
