James: Your power steering fluid is black Dank: Wow I didn't know it can turn that color James, the master mechanic/car restorer with 10+ yrs experience: Neither did I
For a '94 Ford, that really isn't bad. Yeah it had a bunch of worn out bits but nothing you wouldn't expect for a car nearly 30 years old. The bodywork looks pretty solid! Old Mate James is a legend.
Ooooh 5.0L he's almost 4-DOOR Mustang GT. He only needs a Doug Nash 5-speed, a set of Flowmasters and he's a WINNER!!🤣James did an awesome job on that DROF NOCLAF GT!! All HAIL JEFF (the god of biscuits)!! Being in the states I have to flip the vid around for it to look Normal. 🤣
9:13 There's an ever present supply of road grit, and any particles that get between the metal rad and plastic fan housing get pressed into the soft plastic. This turns the plastic into sandpaper, which can wear metal
I'm not even into cars, but I love Garbage time... With cars. It's just so interesting and entertaining, seeing a just two dudes working on some machines as a hobby (and work!).
that right there is the sound of a gorgeous V8 giving your everything she's got for the smiles per gallon, not the miles per gallon. Jeff is a gem and I would love to see more of him in the future if James will sacrifice his time for him
Fun fact, those power steering pumps are used on a ton of Fords from that era! They almost all make that cavitation noise. But I hear you can mitigate some of that by using a handheld vacuum pump to pull out as much air as possible. I haven't tested it on my truck yet, but I hear good things. Nonetheless, Jeff looks like a ton of fun! Love the video!
@ChiefLink You know that cavitation comment makes so much sense now. It definitely didn't sound like a bearing otherwise it would have whined even if it wasn't under load, whereas in the video it only produced noise while the wheel was being turned. I'll keep this tucked away for future use. Thanks!
Yeah, that Ford pump design is garbage. Fortunately, Ford decided to keep using it for decades. They work fine, but they’re noisy. I believe BG makes an additive that is supposed to help.
Man I love the idea that you probably just go "Hey James I got a new nugget for you" and James just accepts it and loves it. This channel might legitimately turn me into a car enthusiast just because of how great you two are
As someone from a Motor Trade family and who has a particular penchant for 80's/90's cars, I just want to say how much I appreciate you keeping these old nuggets on the road, and as you're a pretty successful RU-vidr it's especially nice to see you haven't gone down the EV/Flashy-bling-chariot route. Never change dude.
EVs make no sense in Australia at the moment, there are no subsidies for them, they are actually taxed more than their petrol counterparts. There were calculations done where you would have to own an EV for 20 years for the costs to break even with an EV in Australia compared to a petrol car.
@@jnrdingo1233 Cool story, doesn't change the fact Wade still has a EV nugget, the little bugger is probably better than Jeff, though we know that isn't a high bar
as a wheel tech who helps on every lift and lowering kit... thank goodness you did bushings throughout the build. now as a motorsport vehicle technology student, you need to make that the best sleeper possible. good luck, I can't wait to see what will become of Jeff.
God-damn. Even though it's slow, it sounds so angry, I love it. Both before the new exhaust and after. Even though V8s have a lot of downfalls, you have to admit they sound AMAZING.
What are the downfalls of v8s? Most of mine have been super reliable ahaha. Yeah they use lots of gas but they sound great and move pretty well usually 😂
@@CorndogCrusader Who cares about a little bit of severe financial distress from fuel costs when you can drown out your problems with the sweet serenades of an 'ole vee-ate?
@@Kormit15420 ah, I see what you mean. I overlooked that, I guess I’m used to hearing the car jargon since my family were into cars and fixing/replacing many parts on their own.
I'd be willing to bet it's not a petrol leak, but that recently someone tried to clean up the signs of the oil leak with a LOT of brake clean. That being said, as someone from the US I am so jealous of the cars you Aussies got/get.
@@NeurodivergentSuperiority you probably straight pipe your shit and think it sounds great, nah that shits just annoying and it makes your motor sound like its fucked up. also a good exhaust makes a car sound so much better because you can just chill or you can dig into it and THATS where you hear a good little scream
@@sammynaron5166 It's all down to taste stranger, some people enjoy the sounds of VQ engines, there is no such thing as an objectively good or bad sound, plus the new exauhst makes the car sound too airy and generic, exauhst tuning my shiny metal ass
Swap the chair tops, and you're set. PROTIP: if you do that in a new car (that doesn't have oriented seats, some cars do), you can prolong the seat life by a long mile. When i was younger, my brother and i bought the same cars (the local dealer had a special) and i kept swapping the seats every year's end. End result, i sold mine with good seats, my broseph had to buy covers to sell his. :))
1:13 Is funny after u whatched the whole series of this car, and u know what is that smell. He has already to discover the truths... ohhh what an innocent wade we have here 😂😂
Reminds me of my car. Honda civic 2005 lx sedan. Lots of work. Shes 16 years and she is my good nugget named Jado. Replaced all brakes, pil pan like twice, both aides new joints, completely redone power steering rack. I like her. My first car.
I absolutely loved this video. I could tell it was a long stretch of recording. But, being able to have the whole story of this v8 nugget from first looks, to finding out why it was cheap, to having a grand time fixing everything with the best of mates, spending too much money on a stinking power steering pump! And enjoying the spoils. I enjoy all the hard work you put into this mate. A cinematic masterpiece in my eyes it is.
Ya gotta love Jeff! Those old Falcon V8's are slow nuggets but they're TORQUED. My dad has a Tickford badged AU V8 ute, and he towed a dual axle caravan from our country town to Adelaide and back, (around 400km round trip) and you can barely feel it.
Man, I love this stuff. My first car was an 02' Pontiac Bonneville Supercharged, and I still have it. It's gone to absolute pieces, but the engine is still great, and I can't help but continue to pour money into the steaming pile of junk. Love to see you working on these sorts of cars because it makes me feel less insane.
Those engines will last forever. I had a 95 SSEi. Trans went at 287,000 miles but the engine ran like it was brand new. Got 30 mpg on the highway without even trying. It had tons of tech for the day too.
That lovingly worn paint! I do really dig that dark turquoise/midnight blue though. Shame about how, uh, broken it all was. I can see why every time you say “I promise I’m doing stuff on the channel” because every project takes 42x as long as you were expecting. Love the 90s Ford styling though, phwoar. Also I preempted/joined-in when you said “then I started owning cars and now I’m a Ford guy” (though I said “not a Holden guy anymore”). Heh Also I really think it sounds way better with the new exhaust!
Have you ever thought about taking a look at a Lada Niva? They are just great, in production since 1977 with surprisingly little change (classic bumpers, no electrical door & trunk locks, etc.), they actually came with a crank as an alternative start method up to the mid 90s, you can even crank-start the more "modern" ones, but you have to drill a hole in the bumper lol. They are also pretty much indestructible and the high-low gearbox and differential-locks are actually quite useful.
Pretty normal wear for its age, but nothing terrible. I dig it. Well done fixin it up. p.s. I hit brake pads on the grinder all the effin time. Usually because the newer clips are thicker. And just buy a damn rebuild kit for the power steering pump. It's like 80 bucks and it replaces more than most of the reman places do.
List of first mods for Jeff on his way to sleeper - new fuel system go from pump to injectors - new ecu and a tune - better intake - cat foward custom exhaust - new high flow catalytic converters
i love your car adventures! i could watch hours of this. (Edit: Also about the power steering pump! I have a 1991 f150 with a ford 300 and the power steering pump does that too. It's actually really common on older fords.)
Those 302's are quite good motors especially here in the states they're really liked and modded you could pretty easily get more power in them. I actually have one in my 1994 f150 smooth and pretty reliable. Hope you have a good experience with this 302.
Well he definitely didn't start out with a good experience, most of this video is a example of it, and the end is probably him thinking, "Man, I should sell this"
Coming back to this after the HORROR of what's inside that interior and seeing you two in the car right next to mice corpses... without knowing it.... aaaaugh
I would love to see more from this cars fixings. I am a sucker for watching cars getting fixed up. We need more James on this channel doing more in depth fixes! Thanks for the awesome video!
1:15 "has a bit of a urine smell" and that's what we call forshadowing. Future self to past self, make sure you check the headliner. Sounds weird, but you'll figure it out
love seeing the average car work, been working on fixing up my first vehicle, 99 ram with the 360, and seeing y’all work on another slow loud car is great
First time finding your channel! I've had 2 E series falcons and they have a special place in my heart. My first car was an option 20 EL Falcon which is the ex-police model. I also recently had an EF that I picked up with only 120k on it and it was fantastic. I would love to pick a project falcon sometime soon.
I'm new to the channel, I don't know how much work has been put into him but he seems like the Jeff of Theseus, just gotta replace every single piece one at a time
If you want to make it a bit more lively, chuck a higher ratio diff in her. It probably has a really tall diff in it from factory and the quicker diff will liven it up nicely. Just remember to change out the speed sensor to match or else the ecu will think you are going way faster than you really are, and give you a fuel cut once it thinks you are doing top speed, even though you would be going a lot slower than that. Either way, nice car! Hope to see more of it :)
:) This actually makes me interested in cars, just with how you and James are. I used to hang around in my dad's garage since it was the only way I could like 'have a relationship' with him, since he wasn't interested in my stuff... and once I moved out I kinda never looked at it again, but this makes it look fun :3
This is some of my favorite car content on youtube.. as much as i love dankpods vids and other garbage time stuff + drum streams, the car stuff hits different
Thats just the plastic getting all brown and crusty... they sorta fixed it on the BA's so you could see the trans oil stains easier when the cooler exploded 😅
LOVE the roar of Jeff! This video is nostalgic for me for two Falcons I owned and I regret parting with both: an EF Futura 6 cylinder and BA XR8. Now drive FG XT 6 cylinder (taxi spec) that's as quick as the XR8, but sounds like a hair dryer.
Dank, I honestly found it nostalgic/surprising hearing your Falcon start up (13:25). My Uncle is a Ford driver, having had a Ford Pickup, Lincoln Towncars, Mercury Marquis (All built by Ford), and I swear they all used the same starter motor. Hearing that slow start up brings up memories. Makes me want to learn more about engines and how to fix them.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley I work on modern fords five days a week, every single one of them has significant quality issues. Nothing on Stellantis but it's pretty bad. Most other manufacturers don't come close to the quality assurance issues I've encountered. No need to preach to the choir, I've seen it for myself. Edit to add: Don't forget that Explorer engines have catastrophic failure all the freaking time, remember that Platinum edition 2021 Explorer that went viral on reddit for exploding with less than one thousand miles on the odometer? extremely common issue.
I have a big family, so growing up the most convenient thing was a ford e-series van. Man that thing was built like a tank. Plus it had a v-8 so it was also a stronk boi
Mmmm love an Aussie Ford, I think those 90s falcons look great. I recognize a lot of the parts in the inside from it's American cousins i rode around in as a child.
I’m genuinely curious to know how often you and James work together on these cars! I remember in one of your DankPods vids, you’ve mentioned that you’ve hired him for some of the car fixes, but I was wondering if he still does his own car work outside of these nugget fixes! Absolutely love your content by the way, genuinely my favorite channels on RU-vid. Please keep gracing us with nugget car vids!
