Spot on! Your take on strides is very clear and easy to understand. Many of your YT videos has helped in my running journey.

I used to do a lot of Running when I was in the Military. Then I just stopped once I’d left. That was 19 years ago. Now I’ve caught that bug again and I’m doing a Garmin 5k plan. I’m nearly 4 weeks in and I’m loving it. Long easy runs, goal pace repeats and something called “Strides” in a week or so! Funny how this pops up on my YT feed; I was thinking wtf are “strides” ? Glad I stumbled across your channel, I feel I will benefit hugely in my running now.

schuletrip awesome! That’s some great timing. I basically sit at my desk with spyware waiting for people to tap on keywords then I flood them with my content. So the plan is working 😂 this is, of course, completely untrue. But welcome to the channel anyway!! 👍🏻 hope the content helps

This Messy Happy 😆 Well, Britain can be a bit Orwellian but I welcome the “stride” information. Just off out for my Long Easy run. It’s been far too windy this weekend and I’ve been putting it off. But I have an urge to run, to listen to the sounds, the birds, the trees and to smell the fields (trail running) It’s almost like some sort of mindfulness that I naturally do. I just have to forget how quick or how much better I used to be and run according to my own current circumstances. I’ll be tuning into more of your channel. Thanks!

I always do a sprint finish on the last of the Park Run for the 100m or so amazing how many people I pass from that last right hand bend past the Marshall and I am gone. Dam near kills me every week but I’m glad when I cross the finish. I miss those Saturday mornings

When you have me a run set with strides in last year, I made the mistake of thinking they were high knee and longer stride width. I'd used the term fartlek in the past. So in fact the runs you see may of not reported back as expected as in speed and effort. Glad we got that sorted. Anyway I'm back and able again since hypnosis post surgery also collectively have now done there specific jobs

Nice. I’m not too far off of that either. Bit more base but then I’ll sprinkle some speed on top 😉

hi should u do strides after ur tempo run or after the 2 or 3 mile cool down run also if its a easy run should i do a 6mile easy run, strides, 2 mile cool down or 8 mile easy run then strides
@ThisMessyHappy
@ThisMessyHappy 4 года назад
I would say only after easy base runs 👍🏻
@guillaumesperlich5749

I tend to do them during my easy run, for example one stride per kilometer (5/6 in total), not at the end. Do you think it is as effective ? Thank you for the great content.
@ThisMessyHappy
@ThisMessyHappy 4 года назад
Hi Guillaume, my opinion (and remember it’s just an opinion) is that if you do strides within a run it essentially turns it in to a kind of interval session so you’re only getting half of the benefits of both. Easy runs must stay easy for you to get the full aerobic benefit and strides must be done as stand alone drills to get the best quality form them. Otherwise it’s all a bit mixed up. I wouldn’t do them together to be honest. It’s different if you’re actually doing fartlek or interval training though.

@@ThisMessyHappy you're probably right, I did one of these sessions yesterday and it wasn't really an easy run anymore, because my heart rate went too high several times. Thanks !

So strides are just another word for sprints or intervals?

This is how I understand it. Stride repeats seems to be a Garmin thing.

Hi! I found a training plan online using "strides" and it sounds like you use yours differently than the plan. I was hoping you could help me make sense of the session "6M consisting of: 1M jog and strides, then 10 x 400 mins at 5K pace, with 200m ( or 1-min 30) jog recoveries, then 1M jog"
@ThisMessyHappy
@ThisMessyHappy 2 года назад
Yes it sounds like strides are just used as part of the warmup efforts in this session. Perhaps just to wake the legs up before the hard efforts 😊

hi ben, can i do this after 5k plan exercoises?

Yes I would think so. It’s a good way to safely introduce your body to speed without overdoing it.

i do fartlek training quite alot, is this just as affective?

I actually think there’s a place for them both, Danny. Fartlek as one of your interval sessions and strides after some of your easy base sessions 👍🏻
