Stay tuned for the next one - I’ve made up my mind to showcase a game between Kato Masao and Kobayashi Koichi 😉

Thanks for this great video, as a beginner this was the first time I managed to understand a pro level game and I'm amazed. Had to stop a few times to digest it and I feel like I learned a few things. Please keep making these!

14:30 Cho Chikun egoistic? What? As far as I know he's not. He is fidgety and all over the place and intense, but at the same time seems quite a nice guy. I don't necessarily know of course how it was back in the day when this game was played. But nonetheless, I cannot read any psychology into that capture. Maybe he just misjudged and that's all.

Maybe I might have used the incorrect word, but in my impression, in the 80's era when Japanese Go was at its peak, each of the top six players (Cho Chikun, Kobayashi Koichi, Takemiya Masaki, Rin Kaiho, Kato Masao, and Hideo Otake) has their own unique approach and belief of the best way to play Go. They are competing against each other to prove their hypothesis of the best style. There's where my "egoistic" comment came from. Cho Chikun was best known as "Master of Win/Loss" in Chinese books, where he often able to make wins from seemingly unwinnable situations thanks to his exceptional sabaki ability. Most of the stories depicted his style with a sense of "stubbornness" as often times he will overplay and got himself into bad situations, he would still try his very best to reverse it, thus creating marvelous moments throughout his career.
