I'm so surprised that you don't get more likes I have been trained in boxing and takwondo and karate nobody ever mentioned blocks for attack I have been trained in boxing and takwondo and karate good information Alec from Scotland
Ive done Taekwondo for 14 years and we was told that the blocks in Taekwondo are for blocking only, and i decided to experiment with blocking techniques used as strikes and they made more sense as strikes not blocks and i stopped doing Taekwondo as i began to realise that the techniques being taught wouldnt be of no use in a self defence situation. And a prime example is the rising block i was told was to deflect an attack using a piece of wood down the arm, wrong if an attacker uses a piece of wood and you blocked it you stand more of a chance of getting a broken arm, thats why Taekwondo has become a laughing stock in the martial arts community..
I've never been a fan of TKD, but so much of Karate was changed and/or lost as it moved to Japan and was taught to the masses. When it moved to Korea, I believe it was changed drastically because after the brutal Japanese occupation, they wanted nothing Japanese related or even anything resembling it. Then add it moved around the world, and more was changed and lost. I love Traditonal Tang Soo Do as it was taught to me, but today, I am looking backward through Japan, Okinawa, and even China to gain a clearer picture of Karate. I no longer look at style but the art of Karate as a whole.
@kputala a year or so after starting Tkd i also took up jujitsu and i noticed the grappling i was doing in jujitsu was the same in Tkd but they were labelling the techniques under another thing which was silly and dangerous because something which a person is told is meant for wont work and will end up with bad results to the defender..
