Sri Lanka, Colombo. I tried Sri Lanka's famous String Hoppers for breakfast!
I went to a famous vegetarian Shri Vani Vilas Hotel to try their amazing String Hoppers for breakfast after a lot of locals recommended I try them out there
They were not wrong!
The string hoppers were amazing! Fresh and warm! They went beautifully with the sambal and the coconut curry!

16:30 That area is usually called "Panchika watta". That's where people goto find spare parts for cheap. Fun part is, There is old saying, that you never leave a vehicle alone in that area. They will disassemble it in few minutes into nothing.

Dear ali brother, try some string hppers in southern area such as galle, matara, tangalle (sinhalese people) it has diff taste and u shd eat em with fish white curry/ potato white curry/pol sambol/ chicken curry. String hoppers are usually made with red rice or white rice flour. If u make em with red rice flour they are pinkish brown colour and more healthier.

The version of stringhoppers u had is the indian/vegetarian type, usually served in restaurants by the tamil community.. There is another version of stringhopper eaten in sri lanka with dhal/potato curry, pol sambol & a spicy chicken/beef/egg curry, usually served by the muslim /sinhalese community.. Though both are stringhoppers, it has 2 different & unique tastes.. The doughnut like vada u had is called ulundu vada, & is a dish from south india& made from a lentil named urad dhal which is very good for digestion etc too.. Any food in sri lanka, though name of dish is same, each community & district will have a different flavour..

I'm Tamil and we don't eat like this, the Indian Tamil population eat like this. The Sri Lankan Tamils eat dhal/potato curry, Pol Sambal & spicy chicken,beef egg curry

The area you walked to after breakfast is called Panchikawatta. A whole area full of automobile spare part sellers. There could be separate little paces that provide unique service or cater for different vehicles like motorbikes , tuk tuks , vans , heavy vehicles , welding , nuts and bolts etc. that is another area you can walk around and see a lot happening.

Shri Vani Villas is the number one pure vegetarian restaurant in Colombo. This can be called a Tamil restaurant as they run by Tamil people and sell Tamil food very similar to and based on South Indian food. Tamil food is very unique in its own way that you can experience a whole different flavour of Sri Lankan delicacies. try Masala Dosa, Idli from this Restaurant they make the best of vegetarian food in Colombo.

I would like to recommend some very nice places to visit to eat from. 1) "Café on the 5th" they've amazing Hopper's and Kutto ( for dinner ) 2) "Oak Ray Flower Drum" they've amazing Chinese food ( for lunch ) 3) "88 Chinese Restaurant" they've too have amazing Chinese food and Sri Lanka style Chinese food ( for lunch ) 4) "Sponge" they've amazing finger food ( snacks for breakfast/dinner). 5) "Fab" they too have amazing finger food ( snacks for breakfast/dinner). 6) "Perareandsons" they too have amazing finger food ( snacks for breakfast/dinner). 7) "Pilawoos" for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They've amazing Biriyani and Kutto

Machang, you took me to a part of Colombo I've hardly visited. As for the string hoppers like someone else has already explained, next time try the non vegetarian version. It's great with Beef, Chicken, Fish, Egg curry... I dont think any other RU-vidr has covered my country like you have. 💖

Looks, This is a Special Tamil version of String-Hoppers. Generally, Sinhalese eat String-Hoppers with Spicy Red Coconut Sambol, Dahl, Potato Curry and Chicken or Fish Curry. That Version is also very Tasty..... Anyway, Always watch and Appreciate your Videos......

Hail prince Ali! Today my dreams came true by seeing you're eating String hoppers. That Vada you ate was made by Urad dal. Dosa, Idly & also made by same dal. These food call "Siwer food". String Hoppers are one of my favourite dishes 😍. You can get the Kottu version as well: String Hopper Kottu (Indi Aappa Kottu) 😀. Anyway you don't need to pour all the curry dishes on top. Just pour whatever the level of curries you think is enough. 😂 Otherwise the flavour of the curries overtakes the taste of Indi Aappa and drown those in that Curry flood. 🤣🤣

string hoppers is known as idiyappam/noolpottu in kerala it is eaten with egg curry or white peas curry we in india usually don't eat idiyappam with sambar vada or chutney. idli and dosa are eaten with sambar

Finally one of the 'crazy foreign RU-vidrs' tried string hoppers... Ali my brother, you should try rice and curry too which is served on a banana leaf there in vani vilas. And of course dosai, and idli as that guy mentioned. String hoppers with dhal / coconut milk curry / sambar even with coconut chutney (as you had) gives some kind of a light flavor. Please try string hoppers with coconut sambol / seeni sambol and dhal or coconut milk curry. It will add little kik to it. Try it in a different place.
