Thank you for sharing this. This is a very clever way to do it! I appreciate that the method also helps the students to hear the fifth interval over and over to help with their own tuning ability. Bravo, Mr Radspinner!
Here is a text outline for those of us who like to have it written down: 1. A - Principal Bassist - responsible for tuning to A440 prior to starting, starts A quiet enough "within" own bubble Basses join (adjust as needed, continue) 'cellos join on cue (continue) violas join on cue (continue) violins join on cue (continue) 2. D - Basses switch to D 'cellos move to D, violas, violins 3. G - Basses switch to G 'cellos move to G, violas, violins 4. C - 'cellos move to C, violas move to C 5. Stop 6. 'Cello/viola A drone - violins and basses tune E (Middle School - probably check each individual string)

@@williamsportorchestras5031 No problem, thanks for posting! I've seen this protocol before, but need a concrete example to decipher and copy. We never know what impact what we share has. And I think I just made a connection, coming back to this comment and seeing your email in response to another comment... what are the chances you're related to Mrs. Radspinner, of awesome-beginner-orchestra-playalong fame? I had my 6th graders playing Stayin' Alive a handful of times now and didn't close it fast enough and they saw "Ghostbusters" and got really excited, guess which one we'll do on Wednesday? So we love all the sharing and aim to do so in kind, knowing that we never know how something we don't think anybody else might want can be a really important resource! So thanks to both of you if I've deduced correctly. I don't have much to share at the moment, but I do have some pandemic content on the "Whatcom Orchestras" channel that is useful to somebody maybe, some 5th grade strings videos with emergency sub plans written all over them...
