My computer says I started working on my third string quartet on the 6th of September last year. Today, I finished it. That's as long as it takes to make a human.
I've called it "A Year in the Life" - an in-joke about a bit that's about half-way through it, but also a bit of hyperbole considering it only took 9 months.
It's got a fair few of my standard tropes in it, but there's a bit more jazz than usual because I've been learning a bit of that. It's the longest single movement thing I've ever written, which has been a conscious decision and a learning experience
I could tell you about the genesis of each bit but it'd probably be better if you just listen to it and figure it out for yourself.
