PT Spin is not good in full bed. Needs to be paired with round poly in the cross, which will have better spin potential than ptp or pt strike. The main benefit of PT Spin, which you briefly alluded to, but did not fully appreciate, is that PT Spin is a stiff/shaped poly that provides a connected feel (the slick nature of most spin strings can mask this feel). Since it locks up on itself in a full bed, you need a cross that will stop this from happening. The pentagonal shape provides an edge that deeply penetrates into the felt of a ball, but in a much more predictable way than 4-sided, because the edge that will catch the ball the hardest protrudes more outwardly in a 5-sided string. 4-sided strings work well as a full bed because the sides can align and provide snapback, but the edge that catches the ball tends to overspin and results in lack of control when trying to hit penetrating shots through the court.
Additionally, a super slick round cross is also not necessary. Any round poly will provide the minimal amount of snapback necessary to allow PT Spin to perform. The most important part of choosing your round cross for PT Spin is that it should be less firm than PT Spin. Without a cross that is less stiff, PT Spin will provide very little spin or power. The outwardly protruding edge of the 5-sided PT Spin requires deflection in both directions (e.g., some snapback sliding against cross and some pocketing) in order to effectively use the edge that is digging into the felt of the ball to get it to do what you want. If you are still following with me at this point, you may be able to appreciate that PT Spin can be incredible as a string that gives a lot of spin with a relatively lower launch angle than most shaped strings. This results in a much more penetrating spin that shoots through the court. Imagine a ball contacting a string bed of PT Spin/PTP - the outwardly protruding edge of PT Spin catches the ball on your topspin shot - the PTP backing allows just the right amount of sliding and pocketing to keep that edge of PT Spin digging further into the ball for the short duration the ball is in contact - and during the release of the ball the edge of PT Spin rips a tightly spun ball. If you want to try this setup, I recommend using the same tension for mains and crosses. Lastly, if you are wondering whether you could use a slick firm cross (e.g., PT Fire) and simply string the crosses at a lower tension to achieve the same results, you will find that it is not the same and I highly recommend something similar to PTP.
@@nakmuay5034 Thanks for taking the time to reply! If your experience was with a full bed of PT Spin, then I would agree that there is nothing remarkable about the feel of contact. To get much string movement in a full bed (e.g., not lock up on itself), you'd have to string it low enough that it also wouldn't feel great. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but PT Spin is also an incredibly low powered string, especially for a 1.25 (although I'm not sure how they measured the diameter because it seems to be more comparable to 1.30 strings by the way it feels when stringing). Perhaps this is why players like Casper Ruud use 1.25 PT Spin in the mains and 1.30 poly tour pro in the crosses. Even with ptp in the crosses, it is not a powerful setup, so it really helps to have something that can allow PT Spin to slide freely while also providing a little more comfort/power. When PT Spin is moving freely, you can get access to the feedback provided by the string.
Have you ever tried adding lead tape for this 100D? I use 100D also and wondering to add some lead weight on 12 / 3 & 9.. Need your input if you can.. Thanks
PT Spin is a great String for big hitters like me. My Setup is PT Spin blue 1,25 mains and PT Pro yellow 1,20 crosses at 23/23 Kg in my vcore 98 (2023). Next time if you want to get the all benefits from this string put the PT Pro in the crosses or strin your racket -2 or maybe -3kg, and will works.
@@tantennis hmm I’m debating trying it out and putting it up against blade 98 and iso 305. Thinking 100d might be the happy medium as long as it isn’t too slow through the air --the vc98 tour is also calling my name
