mechanical injectors .. such simple , yet beautiful engineering , and when stripped down you can understand why clean diesel is so important .. thanks for the lesson Mike
Rudolph Diesel invented one of the greatest engines of all time. Thanks Mike - excellent tutorial. I too have always wanted to know the nitty gritty of how diesel injections work. Cheers
It was Herbert Akroyd Stuart that fired up the first compression ignition engine In Bletchley in England, 1886/7, before Diesel, but for some twist Diesel gained the credit www.wondersofworldengineering.com/stuart.html Interesting story - there used to be a marker on the wall of the original site - it was the old Co-op building when I saw it 30+ years ago
@@BritannicaRestorations Hmm..quite interesting. Seems often the case with the big discoveries - 2 or more people working on a similar concept at the same time. Like Edison and Tesla.
Brilliant explanation. I never knew they were that simple. That is the thing with good engeering design, solving a complicated problem with a simple design that can be mass produced. Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce these videos. Looking forward to the TDi injectors. Graham
Thank you so much for this explainative video! It's so good! I have these in my good old, but dying, GM Bedford Diesel 330M. Unfortunately, these injectors will no longer come out.
Once again Mike, very well explained operation and assembly of the CAV injector. I was taught to resurface the caps only on a small surface plate using the finest diamond lapping compound. Needles to nozzle with Jeweller's Rouge'. "Oh my aching fingers"
If you change just the nozzle without disturbing the spring setting, which I have done in the past. Make sure the pintles are located properly before tightened it down because you'll damage the nozzle, which is also what I have done in the past..
Just in the process of testing and sorting my VW LT35 SDI injectors...was suffering from fairly violent end shake and 'knock' so it seemed. Anyhoo, bought one of those testing things and two out of the five weren't right...the fourth cylinder(out of five) was very bad indeed....so have had them both in the oven cleaner and some carb cleaner for the ultrasonic cleaner...can't use that..its fallen apart inside..cheap shi7..all this becasue I watch and folow someone who knows stuff and things...Cheers Mike hopefully I won't have to send one away to be fixed...might get a couple of nozzles anyway..
Four thousand RPM? The old girl would probable get there but I would be deaf very quickly. Lovely explanation, especially the self lubrication, is that why injectors fail when people put petrol in, instead of diesel?
Excellent video just a quick question about the pressure going through the injector You’re saying 137 psi other people on other videos are saying 2000 or just under psi
Thanks Mike I am putting together a series 2a diesel at the moment. Very informative your videos on the injection system, now I can crack on with confidence 👏 👌
sure wish I knew where to get original CAV nozzles for 10-12 quid. Everything I can find has them running about $70 us each. Plus shipping. BDLL150S6600. Chinese running $50 for 4.
