Nice. Will the sock filter work in your older tanks like I have If I just cut the stand pipe down and remove the divider?

Yes! You can actually take it a step further and put a T fitting on the end for dual socks. 5x the filtration area of the filter pads.

You can use almost any socks. These happen to be 200 micron pool skimmer socks readily available on Amazon etc. Some folks use cotton tube socks.
