Buddy I don't know how you have that commitment to go through every piece of wire in order to get every single piece of copper. All I can say is, your a much more patient man than I am.
You probably found this out by now, but if you put the tank in a small tub of water you can keep the tank from frosting and the gas from freezing. No more interruptions. Great effort, sir! 8 )
Welcome back! I'm glad to hear you're working on your dream workshop. Best of luck on that effort. Thanks for the melting video! Stripping the wires was really satisfying to watch!
I'm an electrician. I save all my scraps to take to the recycling and sell. Once, out of curiosity, I decided to actually strip all the wire to get out all the copper (clear copper sells for more than wire with the insulation still on it). I wanted to see if I could make more money doing that. It's really labor intensive, as you can see. Figured I made about $2.00/hour for my labor. I've never done it again. ;-) It's just not worth the effort.
When I was an electricians appreciate, we called that "rabbit". We'd spend a weekend doing that to 4/0 x 10' sections. 😂 Good times. Goooood tiiiiiimmesss
I haven't melted copper yet, but I've heard putting a piece of cardboard under your crucible will help keeping it from sticking to the firebrick at the bottom of the furnace
After my welcome back comment let's get to the wire. My issue that I'm having with wire is that half of what I have is copper-colored aluminum. I'm having to melt each one wire separately so that I have it correctly separated. There has to be a better way. I don't want them mixed.
