You shouldn't use powder zinc because it will pre sip out many other things. Use zinc foil or mossy zinc to avoid the problem you are running into. I applaud your vid and thank you for share the very informative scaping tool.

Thanks for the info, encouraged me to read up on the cyanide process, how sodium cyanide, potassium cyanide or calcium cyanide compounds with additional oxygen and water (used with the normal Arrhenius equation) dissolves gold fast. I think that anyone handling cyanide compounds without ppe is just crazy. Be safe and keep your pH over 10.5 to avoid creating HCN (boiling point 26 °C;79 °F) while processing.

I have seen their videos but was never interested until now. By explaining everything I plan on ordering some now so thank you. They should pay you for this video. As for waste, once you evaporate everything you could pour a little bleach on it just in case there are cyanide compounds. Bleach kills cyanide but I don't know what else is in their product. Cody's lab has a good video on cyanide leaching. Anyways, another great video my friend.

I just recently purchased some of the eco-gold X the series I was wondering why my solution mixes up clear with a very light yellow tint,after the iron like material settles to the bottom have you noticed any changes to their chemistry I noticed when you mix your compound you got a brownish tint it liquid. I’m glad I stumbled across your videos you do an excellent job.

I've only used this stuff a couple of times now. The gold has to come in contact with the solution. No glue, grease or what ever will stop it from working. With clean gold, it only takes about 30 second to clean the items. My problem is getting the gold out of solution. I just about have that worked out also. Good vid.

When you siphon out the liquid, what if you used the tube from an eye dropper stuck into the top end of the hose? It would slow down the siphon process but would reduce the flow rate so you could get it lower without picking up any zinc. You could also make up a clip to hold the tube in place on the beaker wall, so you don’t have to hold it to maintain the height.

Hey, maybe the pH keeps rising because you're taking minerals in a strong base solution, and getting them to precipitate out of solution by binding it to an acid, creating an acid salt. A citrate, for the citric acid, for instance. So when you remove the acid, by binding it to your metals, from a solution which was strongly alkaline, it tends to drift back towards alkaline.

A couple of thought I had that might simplify a couple processes; 1. Maybe using LCD finger boards and other flash plated pieces for determining if the ECO solution has achieved peak saturation. They would change color really quickly (like your ph strips) and most are long strips that can be stood up in the beaker and not require pouring out the liquid to remove. 2. Stir plate during citric additions. Maintain agitation of the water column and allow for freer hands to make ph adjustments. 3. Suspend zinc strips in the water during precipitations, with the stir plate active, this would allow you to easily control the weight of zinc going into solution. Question; at this step can you perform acid adjustments while the zinc drop is occurring? I was wondering if you could maintain the ph over a longer timeframe while the first drop is occurring by possibly setting up a slow drip apparatus.. Cheers 🍻

@user-tl7tz9lb9w

I used that so many times, but there are a few defects. 1.it's only strip the gold where the liquids contact the gold plating, anything on the gold plating will not dissolve, it's mean you need to spend more time to deal with it before you strip the gold. 2.if you have a big amount stuff to strip the gold, you have to divide them in a small and strip lot by lot, during that you have to warm the liquids many times. 3.because to make sure all the gold ion is collected which you can't sure that, you need to use more water to clean the all stuff you striped, then boil the water under 1200ml, to make the PH is correct. 4.the plastic is impact the effect, EX. PCBA is the most thing you never want to strip the gold from.
@joek511
@joek511 2 года назад
What I'm wondering is, how much gold will it hold? For example: 1 oz of gold can be dissolved in 5 oz of Ar. I know I've done it many times. You had far more solution. I suggest you just keep using it over and over again until it stops stripping gold, then drop the gold. Right now I have about 10 lbs of gold pins, 4500 grams. Using Nitric I recover about 1 gram per 100 grams of pins. To process 300 grams I use about 1 liter of 60% nitric. I need about 15 liters to run the 10 lbs, cost about 600 . I suspect that number could tripple to 30 lbs of pins over the next few weeks. I would love it if I couls use just a few liters of that to strip 30 lbs of pins

A couple other thoughts... If you think the gas evolved is CO2 then see if it will put out a match lowered into the beaker. CO2 is heavier than air so you could also slowly tilt the beaker and “pour” some of the gas over a candle flame to see if it puts it out. At least knowing what it is will put your mind at rest. As far as the foaming issue, I wonder if a drop of soap or jet dry could be added as a surfactant without affecting the process? It should lower the surface tension and may help allow the gas to escape? Also I watched another video testing Eco-Goldex on the eScrap Channel, and he made an interesting discovery. He mixed up his solution on a hot plate/stirrer and found all the non-soluble material stuck to the magnetic stirring rod and was removed when he took it out So apparently it contains some iron? It likely contains a ferrocyanide or ferricyanide as it’s active ingredient so depending how they produce it in the kiln there may be some reduced iron trapped in it? In any case it would seem to eliminate the need for the first filtering. Lastly I noticed in the comments of his video someone saying the zinc cements the gold just fine without having to lower the PH? Again if so it may eliminate a time consuming step, then you could still do the second and/or third zinc cementing as recommended and see if it makes any substantial difference?

Hey mate, wanted to let you know I've been using the product a bit here and there. Eco goldx actually recommends using dilute hcl as a replacement for ph adjustment during first cementation rather than citric acid. Either works just fine. Just don't look for the color change from amber to orange as you get close to the proper ph. The second and third ph adjustment still use smb. Also seems to help with the odd precipitate. Ive kept the solution at 40-45c to help keep the excessive air in solution minimal
@omegageek64
@omegageek64 3 года назад
Thanks for letting me know that. That bit of info wasn't in the package I got from Eco-Goldex. I've been wondering if the strange precipitate was some sort of citrate salt, since it doesn't show up in the later precipitations with SMB.

Thank you for your great videos. I’m really confused by this Eco Gold-x product since everyone seems to be using it differently and some are apparently cutting corners? I’ve watched your video and it seems the procedure the company owner gave you is very complex. I watched another video (don’t recall who) and they didn’t add anything to adjust PH before adding the zinc but he recovered (some) gold. I’ve watched a couple videos by eScrap Channel but instructions he was given were to add NaOH before the zinc cementation, but since that’s a base and if the PH is already at 14 it should really do nothing? Just the fact you and eScrap Channel must have been given different instructions and are using totally opposite chemicals (base versus acid) is confusing, so who is right? Either the PH really doesn’t matter except to prevent release of cyanide gas, or one of you is doing it wrong and probably not getting all their gold? Videos by the owner himself seem just as confusing unless he does steps without showing or mentioning them? You had said you’re unable to test for gold dissolved in Eco Gold-x using stannous chloride solution, even though the company owner told you it should work. If so, you’d really have no way to know you didn’t get all the gold, unless you dissolved a weighed amount of pure gold then checked to make sure you could get back 100% of it from the solution. I would think that is a test well worth doing if you have not done that yet?
@omegageek64
@omegageek64 3 года назад
I have received comments and emails from other users of this product who state that they received different instructions for use than I did. I suspect this product is a work in progress with frequent modifications to the instructions. That combined with errors and omissions in translation may also be partially to blame for the confusion. Then of course there are the folks who think they know better and do things their own way, rather than following the instructions. It makes it all a horrible mess of conflicting information for anyone trying to figure it out via internet searches. I have not done the sort of test you suggest. Maybe someday I will. It should be interesting and informative. I generally only use the Eco-Goldex for stripping gold plating off of items that would be very difficult to recover gold from any other way. So even if I'm not getting all of it, whatever I do get is a bonus.
@macfixer01
@macfixer01 3 года назад
@@omegageek64 Thank you for your reply. This seems to be somewhat of a niche product due to the cost, but I think it would be perfect on for example HP boards or SoundBlaster cards which have fully gold-plated traces. As far as the conflicting information, that was my supposition also. I think the company has provided different instructions at different times as the product evolved, as well as translation errors and some customers just thinking they know better. That’s kind of scary when you consider that at it’s heart it’s a cyanide based product! Luckily it seems to be a somewhat forgiving process though. I assume refining is mainly a hobby for you? The test I mentioned came to mind from some things Geo has mentioned. Since he’s running a business and typically doing toll refines for several folks at once, he has to know his procedures are correct and that he’s recovering everything possible. So he’s actually tested his procedures re-refining the same gold or silver to make sure he can get back the same amount he put in each time. At least one reality check on any new tool or procedure is always in order to see if it lives up to the hype. I’ve proposed the same test re-refining a known amount of pure gold to eScrapChannel, so hopefully one of you who isn’t locked in by winter will try it? Thanks again!

You don't need a teaspoon of liquid for a stannous test. That's way to much, and may very well be the reason for crazy results. Just dip a piece of filter paper in the solutoion / barely. Then put just a drop of stannous on the paper

there still gold plate inside of connectors, you should remove the plastic then strip it so you can get more gold.

Will it strip palladium?silver? Rhodium? As well as gold
@omegageek64
@omegageek64 3 года назад
That would be a good question to ask Eco-Goldex. They imply that it will strip platinum group metals and silver. Their instructions really only cover gold recovery. I suspect it does strip silver, based on some sediments I've seen left behind. It could also be stripping tin from parts with solder residue on them.

Zinc will release hydrogen gas, this hydrogen is coming from hcl. So Zinc is forming ZnCl2, Zinc Cyanate and Hydrogen gas, releasing the gold. This is why the pH keeps rising and it keeps out gassing.

How does it work with plastic connectors? Does the plastic degrade?
@omegageek64
@omegageek64 4 года назад
It will strip gold from plastic connectors. I don't really know if it degrades the plastic in any way. I haven't run tests to see if the plastic swells or becomes brittle or anything else after treatment. The way I use it, once the gold is stripped, the plastic connectors become trash anyway.

@@omegageek64 How well does it get the gold from inside the plugs? don't you have to pull the pins out of the connectors for the fluid to reach the gold touching the plastic? A lot of gold plated pins are fully plated and there could be gold where the chemical cannot reach. I've used reverse electroplating with sulfuric acid, and unless the gold is fully exposed, some gold gets left behind under the plastic.
