This is not the way Maggy sang it, I believe she had words and sang it in her language, not sure. I think I have seen it someplace before but sung differently and with words. Yes, the Native Sisterhood sang this as you sing it for the most part. Yes the prison was situated in Ontario where all were forced to stay, as it was at the time the only federal prison for women in all of Canada at the time till we fought for it to be closed. The Native Sisterhood used this song for many reasons, it became our anthem. We are recognized for this. I knew of a woman who taught me to sing a few songs, but at that time she did not sing this song. But I heard her sing it since then. Good for her as she is an urban street elder in TO I believe. I'm still seeking to find the Native Sisterhood Eagl Staff as i am the keeper and carrier of it, it was sent to be safe guarded by Pauline SHirt, last i heard from her when asked about it she said her sister had it. But the song was meant to be shared and being shared it is.
