Seeing comments about her features or surgery or not convincing enough to play a powerful role only adds to the significance of this scene. They cant see her power and neither can many of you but that doesnt make her any less powerful.
Oh please! Jennifer Aniston is one of the actresses that plays herself. Just because she wants to play a significant scene, doesn't mean that she actually is! 🙄
@@Aramazdkhatcherian She plays herself? are you dumb? She wouldn't be getting these roles if everyone thought she played herself. You've met her then? GTFO. loser.
My ex-boss had done this to the senior (all male) management at my last workplace... She was the quiet type who'd put her nose to the grindstone and get things done no matter how outlandish a demand the big bosses made... One day she snapped. Got up and asked (in Hindi), 'Are you done? Because I am. I'm not going to spend my life fixing your mistakes while you casually take my expertise for granted. I am done. We either do this my way or I'm quitting.' Best. Moment. EVER!!
@@deepshikhasingh4965 they agreed to do it her way in that meeting but resumed their bullsh*t gradually within a couple of weeks. We both quit a few months later 😁
@@samcharlie7724 I actually mulled over using the word 'acting' and consider 'play' or 'do', but settled on 'act' because at the end of the day she is an actor by trade, and she was playing a role, even though it was a role that represented all women.
This scene and the scene with her daughter are my favorites ("Fuck you, kid! Fuck you!"). I love that her character refuses to apologize to anyone for being the best in the business.
It’s amazing how Jennifer Aniston has evolved I just saw the movie last night The object of my affection she’s super young and now she’s like older mature and in charge I love it
@@stefanlange485 She's the only woman, in the round table, facing those corporate men. Those misogynistic, old thinking, board member men. Men who used to act like they own her and she believed that to be true. She is not young. She's lived her whole life playing by their rules in a playground she thought was never - even the slightest - hers... And now, in her 50s she's doing a revolution, a mutiny, but with zero allies. Women (especially older ones) where raised to "behave", to not explode, to always micromanage the intense conversations. This hesitation, this doubt is the best, most real acting you could see. Because the director is letting us know that this is all an act. That her body is saying "no don't do this", that she's terrified... Yet she's doing it. Cause if it doesn't work, this speech of hers will be her Swan song. I love it.
@@stefanlange485 You're right, mountains don't fall just because the wind howls. But anger is a real, valid feeling that women often feel incapable of expressing. Who said she's the strongest? She's on the verge of collapsing and she's using her last card. What her character needs is to confront. She's furious and terrified at the same time. That power of which you speak suits different characters. Characters who have many cards to play, who have connections, wisdom and knowledge of secrets or truths. It doesn't suit the desperate and Alex here is desperate. She's not negotiating, she's confronting, she's demanding. And facing your fear and desperation is strength... Just not the one that speaks to you and that's okay.
@@stefanlange485 I never said they are not, I said that's how most feel. And the "women are so emotional" trope is one of the many reasons they feel that way. You keep giving me the same recipe for "true strength" to which I keep agreeing to, because it's a fine cliché and it really works. So we established that we both agree on what the most powerful characters feel and act like. As a scriptwriter and director though, I am telling you that this type of writing doesn't work for Alex's character in this particular scene. We need to see her shaking, being irrational, all over the place in order for her to have the arch that she has. If she was the woman you're describing she wouldn't be in this position in the first place and wouldn't do the things she did later on. That's my judgement based on my expertise and experience.
Idk why people connect each of her role with Rachel . Even I am a big friends fan but connecting one actor to just one role is painful. And in morning show she is just beyond awesome and it's hard to tell that the same person played a jolly character like Rachel .
You could tel this meant a lot to Jennifer and you could see how strongly she feels about misogyny and how it affects her and it seems so real but thats because all industries including acting are misogynistic
This scene BLEW ME AWAY when I watched the show. I immediately had to share to all my female friends. My god. Aniston's character is putting words to something many women have been feeling for YEARS.
This shows how much of a great actress she is… the real Jen we see is fun and casually humorous and humble. This is a strong person showing strong leadership
Courtney Cox is very vocal about the harms of plastic surgery and fillers and what not.. I find people saying that she "had" a pretty face and ruined it but i see things done on Jenny as well... And I still find both of them pretty I just do not understand the criticism solely on our 'Monica'.....
I don't know if it's a known fact cause I don't see any traces of it. I watched one of the final seasons of Friends the other night and noticed that in one scene her facial expression looked exactly like it does now. That made me think that she just aged naturally without tampering with her face in terms of surgery. Looking at some of her recent photos I can tell that she does overall look the same, except for some natural changes on her face due to aging. That said, she looks like she's 50, yes, but at the same time she looks like she's worked hard to retain this great-looking quality of her appearance. Actually, in most cases I'm able to tell whether a person has undergone a surgery or not, but certainly I can be mistaken.
@@Mary-fz5tk My friend's mother's 50, another friend's mother's 51. I know them very well and they also have no wrinkles, their skin is wonderful and they look great for their age they look beautiful in their own way. I can think of many such examples among people I know personally, I just know those two very well. And they neither have had any plastic surgeries nor have they been spending millions of dollars for some sophisticated kinds of skin treatment. But I have to say they've been good-looking from the young age and paid enough attention to diet, massages, sport activities and so on. Yet I'm not saying Jennifer's never had a surgery, it just seems to me that she hasn't.
People sees her as Rachell on FRIENDS sitcom, a sweetheart. But actually she’s more than that, she just didn’t get the opportunity to get different roles because people didn’t believe in her capacity. She’s Aquarius woman, in reality aquarius woman is an Alpha, she maybe look sweet but she can be hard inside. Which definitely you don’t want to mess up with. She can be emotionless, which makes you think if she really care for you or not. 😅
@Not Alfie Well we have different beliefs. I don’t mind yours though 😁. I wonder if you believe in GOD though, I guess you would say it’s Pseudoscience, but never mind forget it 🤪
This was kind of corny. I think her acting was fine, but it was as if the writing came from a generic high school student. "Well, surprise. I'm bursting it." Yikes. Who wrote this? Teenagers?
Jennifer Aniston was always likeable and beautiful and a good actress. However, this scene proved she is actually not a good actress...She is FUCKING GREAT.
I get what she's saying, I admire it. Yet, this scene is so badly done. Her performance is average, the dialogues are juvenile. This scene doesn't hold up. It isn't moving nor does it seem natural.
ahmedd346 Yeah you can tell that the writer(person who wrote the dialogue) thinks they are clever and that cussing adds tension when really it comes off as childish.
I have been watching her for years and rewatched Friends a dozen times. I have watched most of her movies and only thought she was good in Horrible Bosses bc she can’t really do drama. But she finally blew me away in this show. I thought her performance here was excellent and finally worthy of her status as an A-Lister. But anyway, to each his own.
If you have Mac or iPhone, you can watch it from Apple TV app. The first 2 episodes are free but for the succeeding ones, you have to pay for it. Please check it out in your area.
A good actor should never do anything to their face, her face isn't even moving. Look at the guy, doesnt say much still lil movements in face say much.
This is one of the scenes I had been waiting for and, honestly, I was let down. If Jen gave this scene a bit of what Faye Dunaway gave in the stand-off @ Pepsi Cola scene in ‘Mommie Dearest’, I feel that this scene would’ve resonated more. There’s just a lot of hand slapping and forced anger here.
I feel Streep’s cool interpretation of the boss from Devil Wears Prada was powerful. She oozed power. The calm, controlled delivery was superb and commanded attention. Anniston looks like a toddler throwing a tantrum, demanding attention.
Why is it that real writers and artists are struggling to make money in a society that wants to self destruct yet we got the writer of BVS writing Star Wars 9 and high school level writing like this is getting all the money and budgets.
The scene would have been stronger with different choices; calm, serene acting with harsh words (I'm bursting this fragile male ego bubble *sweet smile*) OR completely sarcastic yet loud (Are you done? I need to put on some make-up and make love to America before this whole business goes bust!). Aniston's acting wasn't on par, the screen writing was not good, the camera angles and cuts could have been made way more interesting (how about placing the camera at the far end of the table and slowly, very slowly move towards her while she continues her rant? Right now the cuts and face-shots make you lose focus). It could have been good. It is lackluster. And it is just so frustrating. There are SOO many good writers and directors. How does this continue to happen in such big budget series and films?
I actually liked the camera going back and forth between the TV exec (I forget his name) and Billy Crudup and seeing their expressions. I loved seeing her pissed off the entire time. I disagree about the sweet smile part, it would make her seem arrogant (well, her character is..) and more spontaneous. If she was smirky it would be as if she planned this. Just my opinion, but you raise an interesting point. The reason I'm commenting is that when I watched this the first time, I'm like, YES!!! My next audition monologue!!!!!
This scene was perfect the way it was. I went to NYU Tisch for film. Maybe you can go to film school and then direct your own show if you’re so good at it. Or maybe you’re a Tischie who thinks he’s better than Hollywood and that indie films are where it’s at bc of your inflated ego. Her performance was excellent, the score and sound were perfect, and the camera work was on point.
I HATE that they wrote the word “bozos” into the script... like the show says “fuck” constantly... her character would never say that. It ruins the speech a little
