Man i feel like Jackman will get snobbed too...besides heath ledger academy doesnt recognise great performances in franchise movies. Its a shame...Prisoners had both Jake and Hugh Jackman giving oscar worthy performances, and both were snobbed
I've been saying that shit since October Sky. Even as a very young actor he genuinely presents his effort, and blows out everyone else's performance by being believable.
Michael Bush nocturnal animals with Amy adams its awsm! Has clues and symbolism n his good as usual. Btw watch highway its him n jared leto as super young in crazy road trip movie a comedy..its hilarious
Tiki80 I liked Nocturnal Animals but that's a movie I'm good with watching only once. The first 5 minutes of that movie lol. I'll check out Highway if I can find it. My favorite Gyllenhaal movie so far is probably Nightcrawler but I also love Prisoners. As far as Gosling goes his best movie for me is Drive.
Ya if this does poorly I'm going to say that lame generic title is going to be one of the reasons. Even if it fits they couldn't come up with something else? It's almost like a placeholder.
listen guys i seen stronger one of the most greatest emotional films of all time and i will be damned if Jake gyllenhaal doesn't get and Oscar for to act in a movie like this and representing the people of Boston suffered ,pushed through, and worked together.....JUST GO WATCH THE DAMN FILM...IM BEGGING YOU GUYS
Let's talk about grammar: 1. I SAW Stronger (Not "I seen.") 2. "Most greatest" is redundant and incorrect. It is simply "greatest." 3. "get and Oscar for to act in a movie" makes no sense. Try "get an Oscar for acting in a movie" 4. The people of Boston WHO suffered.
Jake is one of the best actors I ve ever seen. He keeps giving great performances, even on low radar movies, but looks like he doesnt mind. Looks like he really has that love for his art.
Jake Gyllenhaal makes good movie choices, if not all but most of his movies are pretty darn good aside from his incredible acting in all of them, really looking forward for this one as well. Good review :)
Jack Gyllenhal has been overlooked again, I can not believe that he was'nt nominated for the golden globe, his performance was so strong and moving!! I hope the academy will recognize him, he goes to extraordinary length to portray a true story of a courageous man who lost his legs !!!!
Jake gyllenhall was robbed for 5 Oscar nomination and 2 wins: 2007 - Best leading actor nomination - Zodiac 2013 - Best supporting actor nomination- Prisoners 2014 - BEST LEADING ACTOR WINS - Nightcrawler 2016 - Best leading actor nomination - Nocturnal animals 2017 - BEST LEADING ACTOR WINS - Stronger This guy is an actor. Ah yes, Donnie darko, source code, southpaw, end of watch are also solid. And brokeback mountain is his only Oscar nod🥺
Dude just hearing you talk about it and imagining what a person like that goes through already stirs up a load of emotions, I'm definitely gonna watch this when the theater is a bit more empty than in the beginning, cause I'm gonna be right there where you were at the end I reckon
I don't usually cry during movie review videos but there's a scene at the end of this one that had me in tears. I haven't been able to say that about a stuckmann video in years but this one really got to me. As always, thank you for reading my comment and if you like this you can click right here and reply.
The most recent movie I sobbed to was Logan. I lost my dad a year ago, so the ending really got to me. Anyway, I really want to see this because of how touching and powerful it looks. Glad to hear you liked it, because now I wanna see it even more.
I just saw this film, which was absolutely amazing but I was actually going to watch the new Jennifer Lawrence horror film. I happened to look down on recommendations and this was on the list. I am so glad I went with this film because it felt so raw and real, like you I am not one to cry but I found myself a mess of tears at the end. I am a big fan of yours and just saw that you reviewed it while watching the cast and Jeff Bauman himself talk about making it. Total wonderful surprise!
I think Jake is my favorite actor. He is just unbelievable. The way he immerses himself in a role without going too far and keeping it realistic and natural is amazing. He is a formidable actor and makes movies worth watching by his acting skills. Just think of all his movies in the past 6/7 years and picture the movie with a different actor - in most of them the movie goes down by quite a few notches.
While I was not at the marathon finish line in Boston, I did have close relatives who were to be in that area and could not locate them for a couple hours. It is hard to describe that panic and fear. I do not think I am ready to see the movie on a big screen in public, but will definitely see it when it streams. By the way, I know the title sounds hokey, but it is based on a slogan (and subsequent charitable fund) that took hold right after the event, "Boston Strong".
Many people will claim that everything happens for a reason, but that's not really the case. Sometimes people are in the wrong place at the wrong time and will make the best of what has happened. But then you do have those people that are in the right place at the right times, which there's a reason for these things. Thank you Chris for this very nice review. ☺️
Watched this a TIFF this year and it was especially moving having Jef Bauman there -such a special moment between Jake and Jeff at the end of film, they both hugged for a long time, while the audience was giving them a standing ovation. Felt pretty special being there for that. Great film!
i love tatiana....how she has not won an emmy for every season of Orphan black is beyond me, she plays like 6 diff main characters apart from some small ones she plays
This film had a gut wrenching visceral impact on me. Phenomenal phenomenal performances by both the leads. By going into the psyche of someone hailed as an inspirational hero who himself just feels defeated, it made the film really raw and real. Really shook me.
I was the only one in the theater to see this yesterday and that scared me because I really want people to see this movie..its one of Gyllenhaals best performed movies and it's such an inspiring story.. people, you need to see this.
I was in this movie!! I’m in the scene where they’re at the Bruin’s game, in the crowd. I haven’t been able to see it yet but I’m going to as soon as possible. I live in Boston and have all my life, and the bombing really had a massive effect on my life and still continues to do so. Patriot’s Day really hit me hard, and based off Chris’ review, this is gonna hit me so much harder. I could Jake Gyellenhaal worked very hard on this, I hope people can tell what he truly put into it.
I would stop making these kinds of comments, it's pretty much the same as you waving a big sign saying: "I'm an idiot who's completely clueless about youtube's view algorithm". Unless you're new to YT, most people know what's up. idiots don't.
Well, in my humble opinion, without the desire to offend those who think different from my point of view, but looking at it in depth, I honestly think...I forgot what I was going to say
I really enjoyed this movie. Everything you said was spot on! I was very emotional through some of the scenes in the hospital as well as some of the scenes in the end. The emotions from both Gyllenhaal and Maslany were moving.
I saw Nocturnal animals few weeks and omg Jake is so amazing!! Thr movie is awsm n I loved it.. I had seen southpaw before n the transition and versatility of jake is mind blowing.. I saw him go from this tough fighter from the hood to this helpless family man/ex husband.. n in this he looks incredible as usual.. fucking love him his awsm of an actor!
Thank you Chris. I have been bored and constantly refreshing RU-vid for something good to come up. You have just given me 5 minutes of my life to fill.
Not gonna lie, I sometimes need to get into the right mood to watch something heavy like this (which isn't often) but after watching your channel, I constantly challenge myself with movies that are out of my comfort zone to try and appreciate movies for what they're worth. I will DEFINITELY check this out as well!
Just saw this at the Arclight in Hollywood with a Q&A with Jake, the writer and the producer afterwards. I thought the movie felt really real and raw, played like a lifetime drama at times, with some cliches, but the performances were great. Jake and Tatiana really carried the movie along. It did bore me in certain moments, like we get it, this guys really anti social in a way, and is a drunk, but it does eventually cross that mountain and we get some sort of resolve. I'd give it a 7.5/10. Tough watch but pretty inspiring.
I watched the trailer last night and I was sobbing. The film is probably going to make me look like a hot mess. Just like the end of Hacksaw Ridge or the end of Fruitvale Station where I was a blubbering for fifteen minutes after the show.
i just watched it. It's true i found it hard to critique since it recently happened but I looked passed that and tried to critique the film itself.Personally I barely got emotionally moved by the movie minus the car scene with his gf. other than that it was all OK and quite cliche..I give it a B-
With now two movies about the Boston marathon, do you think that they are focussing to much on America as the victim? Although this is an inspirational story that should be told, do you think that Hollywood has a responsibility, as the biggest movie makers, to show more stories about places like the Middle East where these things happen every day? Would love to know you're opinion on this matter.
A-? because of the narrative issue? you said yourself its because its so damn real it wont flow like a traditional movie :) nice review though, ama go watch this for sure.
Rip to the victims that died on that tragic day in 2013. Martin Richard (killed by the second bomb) Krystle Campbell (killed by the first bomb) Lingzi lu (killed by the second bomb) Sean Collier (shot and killed by tamerlan tsarnaev) Dennis Simmonds (died from injuries from a pipe bomb thrown by dzhokhar tsarnaev during the Watertown shootout)
