Sherco & Scorpa Manual with suspension settings and information in 1st 2 links on this page (multiple languages)

I've been hesitant to change my rear spring for my reiger rear shock due to some people telling me to just leave it alone and ride it.
However, learning that my rider sag was too far outside the factory specs and consulting with a friend, I decided to get a heavier spring.
Suspension set up is something that I feel many experienced riders want to respond to questions in a reactionary manner. Maybe too many young riders think that they can turn their bikes into hopping machines by cranking things up and mess with all the dials when they should be focused on learning how to turn. I can relate. However, I've learned that hopping comes from balence, body and bike mechanics and skill rather than by turning knobs.
I feel suspension is something that needs reviewed as your riding skills increase. In addition, riders who are farther from the 170 lbs (77kg) mark will find changing preload or even their spring will obtain great benefits by getting their suspension properly set up.

Excellent explanation. I have a new to me '18 Gasgas 300 Gp and I suspect I need to get the right springs for me. Your explanation helps me understand what to look for thanks!

I was ignorant to suspension setup when I rode. At 210 lbs I was on 100% stock suspension - most of the bikes back then didn’t even have any adjustments on the forks. Now that I’m getting back into riding I have properly sprung the bike and using what I’ve learned from adjusting suspension on the big bikes. Now I know why I struggled so much in the 90’s and 2000’s!

Yes yes.. seems like I'm starting to hear from others what so many people didn't want to tell me before. Get it set up right for you and your weight. Thanks for sharing

At 120KG I needed new springs, most factory sprinsg are set for a 77Kg rider. Ideally you set as little preload as possible and as you said set dampening for preference. Tuning is an art and best done in slow incrememnts and document each one as you go, it's tedious but you learn how to change the feel and it's an essential skill as your riding skill increases you'll be thankful you know how to change that suspension setup.

Right on. What spring rate did you get if you don't mind me asking?

100 percent agree , these bikes are infinitely adjustable. Suspension is such a crucial factor in the performance of the bike and rider. The better the rider the more you can get a feel for the right settings. I've just changed out the front spring for a heavier one as I'm , well, a fat bloke !!! I found that I was already into stage 2 of the spring when just stood , so the amount of bounce was reduced considerably. Thanks for the upload, great to have really good info, and passing of knowledge, especially with bike set up. Thanks 👍

Awesome to hear you made the jump to get what you needed. 😀 Glad it's working out for you. I heard a lot of people say, just ride it like it is. Well, you don't know what your missing until you try, especially if you're further from the 170 lb mark. cheers 😉. More bike suspension set up info coming Tuesday

Ron here…. Jack thanks for your helpful comment. I went a few years riding stock suspension. I had worked hard at the settings and that helped a lot. Then a few years ago, I decided to try upgrading my spring out of curiosity. I was really surprised by how much the right spring rate helped. It made setup easier and the end result was that everything became easier to ride.

I completely agree with everything you have said in this video I am 100kg and put stiffer springs into my gas gas I highly recommend anyone who is heavy or light to do it

Right on. 😀 Thanks for your comments. It helps to know others who are also having the same results. 👊

I agree dampening is personal preference. At my beginning stage, I like a setting somewhere between where the "pogo stick" action is slowed down and in control but not so slow that the life has dialed out. I guess you could call it a subjective happy medium. Perhaps as my skill increases, my settings will change.
@TrialsProgression

Yes, for sure. Happy medium. 😉 My buddy calls it the "Goldilocks - just right"

So Do you have information where we can look up the suppliers who carry springs for trial bikes ? I myself am looking for a 75 for my 2022 gas gas 250 txt and can't seem to find it looking through the net.. any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks for the shares .

Josh, are you in the states? If so, Stu Preston at Jack's Cycles is the importer and rebuilds Reiger shocks. He has springs. jackscycles.com/

I weigh 190lbs would a heavier spring benefit me that much (in your options)? Love the channel by the way!!

Thanks Allan. What level rider are you? Did you see the next 2 videos in this series that Ron made? Follow the end screen card. It helped me a bunch. 😀 It's the easiest performance "upgrade" I think you can make. Turns, hopping, unload moves are way way better. However, you can still do all those things plenty well on the stock spring, but I do think you'll learn faster when it's properly set up. I wish I would have done it sooner. Holler at Stu Preston at Jack's cycles if you are in the states. Great guy, he'll help you out.

When I got my Electric Motion it was setup so stiff I was really struggling to get traction in the English mud. I set the sag and other stuff back to factory and was amazed at the difference. I'm a bit disappointed to find I'm heavier than the average rider though 🤣

🤣🤣. Glad to hear getting things squared away with suspension helped your traction. Amazing differences. Now, as for your weight.... 😜

Looking forward to these setup videos. I’m about 95kg, you only mention the rear spring? Not the front, or is this covered in the set up videos?
@benjohnston7742
@benjohnston7742 2 года назад
Front is not as common most boys just wind up the pre load but I changed mine aswell as the back I am 100kg. It is definitely worth the money
@TrialsProgression
@TrialsProgression 2 года назад
We'll go into much more depth in the videos to come. Yes, increase front preload as well 😁
@TrialsProgression
@TrialsProgression 2 года назад
Ron here…. Phil at 95kg, my understanding is you are on the edge of that decision. When going to 80 N/mm the literature recommends to change to a heavier fork spring too.

I’ve known many trials riders over my years of riding and most have no interest in adjusting their suspension, including some of our top US national riders. I don’t know where the fear of trying things out and having to write down some settings comes from. You should also state in your following videos in order to set your damper clickers correctly find a section (preferably with multiple types of obstacles) and ride the same line over and over making changes to only one setting at a time. Take notes on how the bike reacts and how you felt as what is really the goal is to make the rider as comfortable and confident in their ability in most situations. Otherwise you might just be wasting time changing things off hand. I also have a PDF file from Trials and Enduro News that is an article on doing all that you are planning to do in your following videos that is specific to modern day trials bikes. It’s no longer available on the web as far as I know and I have no rights to it but I’ve made copies and given them to fellow riders over the years. Race Tech’s suspension bible while not covering trials is an excellent read for anyone wanting to understand this semi-black art subject of suspension. I can send you a copy of the PDF if you give me an email address.

Ron here…. Love your comment. Personally, I perform repetitive better/worse bracket testing on several different sections over multiple ride days to find my best settings solution. Starting with reasonably close initial settings and then performing prioritized bracket testing of one thing at a time is the only way I can avoid chasing my tail.

Reiger rear 3 way shock factory from sherco manual. Follow 2nd link multiple languages shercousa.com/docs/ Rebound on top, flat head screw driver 27 CCW from all the way in Purple knob CCW 12 from all the way in Spring Preload is 10 mm from full length 140. So spring would be measuring 130 at stock. You'll want to set sag and those targets for sherco/Scorpa on reiger are listed at time stamp 5:16 Different manufacturers are different sag requirements, so make sure to check yours for your bike. TRS, GasGas and possibly vertigo don't recommend any free sag (bike sag)
