Love the strategy, camerawork, micro and fighting like a man and not cheesing it (other than a cheese factory on the high ground lol). Aggresive macro but without bow production looked super sweet! Especially the ninja woodcutters and transition from apples to bakeries! GG!
this mission is so hard you can't even beat it with 0% troops lost without slowing down the game lower than 45 speed. Amazing how you are able to win like that. That was very good strategy and I am absolutely obsessed with this game. They just don't make games as good as this that much anymore. It's kind of pathetic really. Games should be getting better. Not worse.
Yeah, after days of searching for a reliable strategy and even more days of trying to record a flawless run, I finally uploaded this mission full of pride and one of the first reactions was that dislike, what a bummer ^^
Really impressive. I'm trying to beat this for at least 5 times... So no shame for me that I did not succeeded yet :-) First, i tryied to sell all the stone to build fortification as close to enterance as possible, but then NO PORTABLE SHIELDS, BOOOO!!
I accidentally found a deceptive path of passage, if you dig a sufficient ditch and block the path, then the enemy does not attack the first waves, and the presence of an army at the pointer prevents the rest of the armies from appearing. as a result, when the timer expires, only the first wave remains against you, remove the moat, enough for a passage and the enemy starts an attack, but by that moment you will have more than 100 archers on round towers, just using this strategy, but modifying it. at the end I have 0% loss) it turned out your combined strategy and udwin
Ha, I just tried that and it really works! Although, I must have done something slightly different, because I got a second and a third wave, but they all kept idling before my moat :-D
@@LordBalder indeed, all the waves appear, I did not pay attention to crossbowmen and black archers who appear on the last waves, but there was not enough room for swordsmen, I never saw them) maybe there was not enough space for them on the respawn. In any case, this option is for those who cannot flawlessly execute your tactics, enemy attacks are not typical. How many times I did not try to use your strategy, all the troops ran at me at once, and the archers got serious injuries pretty quickly, eventually even minimizing losses, they punched me through a wooden wall and destroyed my moat, the ending is known
I finally did it on very hard! I returned to this mission after several years. I had loss ratio about 11% which was not bad I think, this could be lower with some micromanagement, but I did not cared about losses . I used different approach, maybe I will upload my gameplay too some day :-)
Just a few days ago, I got a comment about how to trick the AI into not attacking at all instead of only in small waves which I knew before. If you won fair, then I would very like to know how you did it!
@@LordBalder I did no tricks towards AI, but it still attacked in waves, like in your video. If you dont kill the attack force until next arrived, they start attack in waves, because there is too many soldiers in map, it is probably for CPU and memory optimisation. The attack forces are large and with only small time window, so its hard to kill them until next arrive. My playthrough was easy enough to be executed by novice, actually, it is not hard mission, if you know how to do it. I had several thoughts: You have initially quite large amount of food, money and goods, but very short time to get your economy running. If you defend whole area, you need many troops. But what about very different approach: I sold everything I could, including food, destroyed all buildings (with walls) except armory and barracks. I bought about 60 archers, destroyed my strockpile and put it in different position, so I had free space around my keep. I then demolished rest of the walls to get some stone again and walled only my keep. The walls were thick and it did not cost so much stone, because area around keep is small. Then I built some nice things to buff my archers to 25 % bonus. And at start of the game, I set highest taxes, because you have many people initially, they will pay you large amount of money, when they started to leave, I recruited archers, but kept taxes high. Only 4 peasants remained with happynes 0 (some always stay), and payed me some tax (6 gold), so I was able to recruit some archers during the game (about 5-10). I won easily with coofie in my hand, watching the massacre :-)
Yes, I got attacked by all archers at once and the spearmen broke through... I used towers as a defense and that made the AI behave normally, once you only have a wall between you and the enemy, the AI gets confused and only attacks in small waves which makes it easier!
Sometimes the enemy randomly decides to concentrate fire on one of the towers. In order to prevent it from getting destroyed you can surround them with cranulations. At least melee units won't be able to hit it!
Thats true, it took forever to find, practice and finally record the build order! But only by putting that much effort into it makes it look effortless! ;-)
Great effort in this mission. The level of detail that you developed with this game really is something. One suggestion though: with mangonels you can take out alot more enemy units in a siege than with ballistas. And one more question: why don t you try Crusader 2 (2014) ? The AI is improved there and missions are more challenging. Regards!
Thanks for the kind words :-) You are right, mangonels would have been better, but I tried to win without mass signpost slaughtering. A big advantages of the ballistas though is that they are very effective agains swordsmen once they stand still in front of your walls and they are a huge problem in wave 3 and 4! This way, I made it look more fair for the AI and I got an advantage in the later waves! Regarding Crusader, I never started them and dont feel like playing them... However, I recently began thinking about coming back to the original game, but it will take some time even if I manage to motivate myself into recording again ;-)
Out of curiosity, why do you never play super-forward? Why not build up the minimum distance away from the signpost, so you can crowd in the enemy as they spawn? It costs less stone because you have a shorter area to wall across, and it gives you access to more land to build on.
The better I became in this game the more I tried to win in a fair way, Sparrow described it really well in his Extreme Challenges thread! There are indeed a few very effective techniques to defeat invasions like the signpost slaughtering you mentioned, but it feels more of an achievement when you let the AI attack as good as it can and still win with your superior castle design or by having overwhelming numbers thanks to a good economy!
I PLAY IT Island Warfare "mafio" (VERY HARD) WITH 0% LOST score 25 000 (6-after-8 mangonel and close the space) cancel granary, all-tower, house + stockpile... all near wood "stone" apple
I guess you haven't played that mission by yourself otherwise you knew that shields are disabled, just like pitch and crossbows are... I also thought of throwing cows at the enemy, but that's disabled as well, so my best approach was spamming as much archers as possible!
Oh, way too many... I think the hardest part was not only winning but winning without losses which can be quite tricky when you are being attacked by 30 crossbowmen and only have archers on your towers... In those situations, all you can do is try to micro your wounded archers into safety and hope that noone dies until next savepoint!
I am currently not gaming a lot, at least nothing which is worth recording... I started playing Gothic again and just finished with the second part. Besides that I watch a lot of AOE streams!
Great titles. I played them much myself as they released. Its always fun. You know "LordSaradoc"? He is playing Gothic to maximum. There are not many games I am interested in anymore. Maybe I am getting too old.
Yeah, I am probably getting too old, too ^^ I sure have found LordSaradocs videos. Its unbelievable how he beats the first part in 5min while totally breaking the game and how he defeats the final boss of the second part in like 10min! Unfortunately, like me, he does not have commentary on his videos which would make them even more entertaining!
Thanks! The dots show you your current military bonus you get by fear factor. In this mission, I went for a fear factor of +5, which gave my army a +25% attack bonus and which is shown by 5 green dots. Likewise, the army of a cruel lord with a fear factor of -2 will have 2 red dots over their health bars, indicating a -10% attack bonus.
Lord Balder I thought so but I wasnt sure because it doesnt say anywhere. I was looking about it somewhere in the "help" but there wasnt anything about it aswell
Well, atleast, I read your comment ^^ Unfortunately for you, I have not planned on recording those missions... If I remember correctly, I did play Asgard 1 after a request like yours in the past and uploaded a few screenshots, but I am not sure where the links are and whether they are still active...
Question: if i get the message from the monk about the crossbow, can i product it after or that effect only appears in the military campaign? Btw, keep going M'Lord, you're the best in the kingdom :D
The map maker wanted to have the same effect, but enabling crossbows during the mission can not be set up with the editor. As a compromise, you can produce crossbows the whole time but can not recruit crossbowmen ^^ If that would have worked, I would have had to expand my economy to crossbows because crossbowmen can take much more damage as the fragile archers which would have helped with the score!
That was the point about i was wondering, because after have seen plenty of your videos, you would be the first who rush immediately to train crossbowmens :D well, nevermind than. Maybe i need to search an empty job at Firefly Studios :P
@@LordBalder In Stronghold and Crusader, archers (and Arabian bowmen) get an increase in damage when they target units with heavy armor (pikemen, swordsmen). Against light and leather armored troops they gain no bonus.
I just did a test: it took 50 shots with and without brazier for one archer to kill a pikeman. This matches with the results from the heavengames site where I got most of my knowledge from (stronghold.heavengames.com/gameinfo/tables/melee)!
Hmm, hard to tell without seeing what you are doing... I guess I spread my archers over three towers instead of one to increase the chances of the enemy archers to fire against the towers. If they are all in one tower the front rows might be hit when the back rows are targeted. I also had the ballistas which soaked up some damage! Killing the enemies with killing pits at the beginning of the second wave was nessecary to avoid losses but should not make that much of a difference. Saving my wounded archers during each wave gave me higher numbers to kill the enemies faster, so they had less time to deal damage to me, the good things in the last two rounds did the same. Apart from that, maybe I was just lucky. I did save and load a lot to avoid those few losses I would have gotten otherwise each wave. I thought that they would not decide the outcome of the mission but maybe they do...
