Got a "totally legal" stronghold crusaders copy from a flee marked as a kid after playing it once at a friends place. Its the reason why i love RTS to this day. With this remaster, potential future remasters and a proper new entry, the future of the franchise seems bright
Its remarkable that one of my fave games as a kid is still alive and kicking, hope stronghold unreal is the one ive always hoped for, nothing ever hit as well as the OG for me.
Out of curiosity, have you heard of Dino Lords? It's a Danish RTS being published by Ghost Ship Games (Deep Rock Galactic) which takes heavy inspiration from Stronghold. It was described as Stronghold crossed with Diablo and could be worth following, though it seems to be quite far off from an actual release.
Its been so many years and we still waiting for you to make video about the greatest sci-fi rts game - Starcraft. Im starting to wander , are you one of those rts fans who hate StarCraft ?
The amount of time i;ve spent playing Stronghold 1 and Crusader is embarrasing. I still wish firefly would continue to make 2d stronghold. There's just something with the way this game looks that just instantly hooks you up.
Stronghold is my favorite rts series right behind command and conquer, stronghold 2 was so much fun I remember it was the first time I ever played with others online, custom maps were fun and legends is ass and 3 is just okay
Great vid as always. Could you one day review a long forgotten game named Original war ? It was made by a small studio with barely any money left for marketing, but it's surprisingly well made with moments that let you choose how the story plays out ! It still has developer support and it's running completely fine on modern machines so you shouldn't have any problems affecting your review like galactic battlegrounds.
Fair comment but I'd like to clarify how a video like this is made. I can't speak for all sponsored videos on RU-vid of course, but for me, outside of specific 'calls to action' (like being told to make sure you say the game can be wishlisted) every word is my own. Firefly in particular have been great to work with and have not once asked me to reword or remove something they didn't like. Also, for this video specifically I chose to make a more 'video essay' style of it - the only requirement was that the video somehow included the definitive edition. I certainly could've made a shorter, easier to produce video that just talked about the new build of the DE, but this is the video I wanted to make. Anyways, just wanted to clarify that - but appreciate the feedback and for sticking with me :) -Zade
@@Zade_95 Thanks for clarification. You can do all the ads/sponsorships you want for all i care, i'm still gonna stick around. Glad to see you have way more freedom in what you can say in the video.
Tbh, even tho DD treat their devs well, the publisher had some bad takes on Twitter (X). Which isn't say much but is hard for a company to not post bad takes? Anyway, would you be interested in reviewing the Sudden Strike series?
I think Giant Grant Games is involved in a project to make an RTS inspired by Mass Effect, though honestly i couldn't help but see Starcraft inspired all the way through. I did like the some of the explanations for the different iterations of the game so far
That's zerospace right? I can see where they're coming from but gameplay wise looks a bit out of my wheelhouse - keen to give it a try at some point though!
I'm really looking forward to it, but at the same time I have to question why they picked Stronghold 1 and not Crusader, which already - to me - feels like the "definitive" version of the game. You said early on they never quite reached the same heights, but I'm looking at Crusader and I just have to disagree. Yes, it's content was little more than an - rather large - expansion* to the original Stronghold, but I feel like it really improved upon the original formula in so many ways that going to SH1 instead of either skipping it altogether or making them as one game - which would earn it the name "definitive edition" to me - feels like a big miss. *= IIRC it was marketed as "standalone expansion" back in the day? could be wrong on that one, though
The game is OK but not all that. If one thinks this Stronghold is the RTS perfection i can compare, i have plenty of games to compare it with. Nostalgia plus a lot of other things will make it heavier than it is, i mostly get annoyed with that they created it to annoy on purpose. It´s like playing chess and at the same time there´s an audience that constantly removes your concentration, that´s Stronghold.
no skirmish mode,HUGE disapointment wake me up when stronghold crusader defitive edition comes out, what a waste of time,THE ONE THING original stronghold needded and they didnt bother and dont tell me about multyplayer NONE of my friends play stronghold so it was never a option anyway.
100% - It's really unfortunate. If the game's going to have longevity it NEEDS AI skirmish, otherwise it'll be a simple one and done experience that won't hold players. I really hope it's #1 on the priority list after launch
Well technically not an rts. Most definately the best tw game though. Can...can i use you as my priest and confess a sin? I found a cheap key of pharaoh dynasty edition and i preordered it damn me....i'm sorry, i was weak.
I was excited to play it... but then, i realise than it was actually the same game i played 20 years ago.... so... i've just refunded. Would be great if the studio could work on a new title instead of releasing the same game every 5 years with a "HD" title behind...
So I wanna ask the vets in this game, because I think I played a SH game when I was a kid or at least a game that looks like it, but I can't quite rmb. The only thing I rmb is a unit that says a funny line in arabic I think? Or at least the delivery of the line was funny for kid me. Do any SH games feature middle eastern setting? Or arabic factions or the like? I think SH Crusaders is the closest thing to that.
I randomly got it as a teenager desperately looking for a good strategy game that wasn't a clone of war/star-craft, c&c or age of empires. I was playing freebuild for years, i still own every stronghold title but none of the other games i really liked. Crusaders was too hectic and every other one up until warlords felt half-assed. Stronghold 3, i believe was a joke from the devs, i never quite understood how you could make such a bad strategy game, great soundtrack though.
I was the same started with Stronghold 1 left after 3 came back when i got a free copy of SC2 and bought Warlords which i really liked. Sadly i stuck it out for 10 hours in stronghold 3😭i think it may be my biggest gaming disappointment.
