I had an autograph book filled with signatures from all of the top British wrestlers. I used to watch the professional wrestling every second Wednesday in the Pavilion Bath (from 1979-1983) I loved it. God knows what happened to that book.
Two very good technical wrestlers back in the day. Love the rivalry between them - AD having taken the title from JB. Funny how the referee gets a boo. I'm surprised AD made the welterweight as he looks a lot heavier than JB. Thanks for sharing, brings me back to World of Sport as a boy in the 70s.
Alan Dennison was as dirty as they came until 1976 when he was inspired to change his style after wrestling Dynamite Kid (yes he had his soul saved by Tommy Billington LOL) Before that he was NASTY - tagging with Cyanide Syd Cooper as the Dennisons and using his leather wristbands to scrape away at opponents eyes. Check out this match from the early 70s: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XU1zXAW8hfI.html
Big Baby Breaks, magic days watch the wrestling on Saturday at 4 on the brilliant World of Sport with Dickie RIP what a shame these days will never return, Thank you Candy 🙂
A good Friend of mine is the Nephew of the Wensor Brothers, he told me many a story that they'd relayed to him over the years. Not sure how much was staged, but as a wrestler, if you wanted to earn good money you needed a USP that would pull the crowds in. Being a Bad Guy was one option, Breaks was a complete and utter cheating, poor loser, but the people came to see him wrestle as they wanted to Boo him.
Went in jimmy’s pub in Wyke Bradford most days Was a proper gentleman (when taking your money) there was Never any trouble Seen him in action Trust me hard as nails
"For the 58th time, break the hold/don't do that/let him up! Next time, it'll be a public warning"! Absolutely shite officiating and one of the bugbears I have with the wrestling industry!!
Alan had a public house in Denholm and it was called The Black Bull. Jim breaks had a nickname and he was called Cry Baby Breaks. For people who don't know but Denholm is in Bradford
@@johnmichaelford3615 I know - what surprised me is that I could have had a pint with one of my wrestling heroes when I lived in Keighley for a couple of years back in the '80s.
@davidfindlay878 The other Yorkshire wrestler was Ray Steele and he was from Wakefield. Then Shirley (Big Daddy) Crabtree was from Halifax like his Nephew Greg Valentine, but Greg refused to be a tag partner of his uncle because he knew what would happen. Danny Boy Collins was a tag partner of his and he ended up in Leeds general infirmary to have a kidney removed
@davidfindlay878 Alan Dennison passed quite young he was about 52 .catweazel as well 1980,Steve peacock,Tibor zaccas, Jackie palo, all the great entertainers of world of sport .brilliant times.
Breaks special move if you watch it carefully he lays it on opponent then he trys to lift opponent watching carefully his opponent puts his right hand on breaks shoulder jumps onto breaks thighs thus pretending he had lifted the opponent thus getting a submission. Shows how farcical it is every time a move is made the aggressor stamps his foot deliberately to announce the move they all do it could lt be a.code or some thing it's still good fun though. Best wrestler without a doubt less Kellet.
That was a Gunuine scrap for the championship belt that was serious some matches are some matches not big daddy matches was never Genuine haystacks could put him away if he wanted to he put away Crusher Brannigan in a competitive scrap and John quin in hanova Germany
Silly old bootlicker. Save the biggest benefit scrounger in history so you can carry on paying for him. All because his recent ancestors were 1. Distantly related to Princess Sophia Saxe-Coburg-Gotha of Hannover and 2. Not Catholic.
Alan Dennison died on the 27 th June 1984 what a lovely man and wrestler he was , always played fair , on the other hand we have dirty cheating wrestler Jim breaks , a sly puncher and kicker , but sadly and unbelievably Jim breaks and his partner moved to gran canaria in 1997 , as the years rolled along , she became his x partner , and one night in gran canaria , jim breaks who then suffered from dementia , attacked his x partner hit her over the head with a cup and punched her many times on the head , she passed away the next day , the court wanted to put him in jail for 15 years , as he had dementia they didn't do this , Jim breaks passed away on the 25 th of December 2023 , so everyone out there be good in life because you don't want to leave a bad memory of yourself , to everyone who knows you , kindness doesn't cost a thing ,but it brings great joy to others who will remember you , rip jim breaks , and your x partner , may god. Bless your souls ,🙏🙏
IF PEOPLE CAN RISE. AND STAND STILL FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WHY DON'T THE DO SIMILAR AT ELEVENTH ELEVEVEN POPPY TIME HOW STANDARDS HAVE GONE DOWNHILL😂❤
Reading these comments it's as though a lot of you don't know they were acting. I knew Jim Brakes when he was about 65 and retired in the Canary Islands. I was a piano player and he was a regular. He used to sing with me. He told me he had his act and image as a cheat etc. And it was all completely staged. He later went on to be accused of murdering his girlfriend, and then became senile. Shame as he was a nice bloke.
