When you're lifting from the floor, why do you have one hand facing forward then switch half way up? Does it provide some benefit, or is it just a strange rule for lifting? Is there a technique to doing that?

The bar Chloe is lifting in this training video is an Axle bar, these bars are notoriously hard to grip onto as they are thicker than a 'usual' barbell. Using the mixed grip method means that when the bar is lifted off the floor there is far less chance that the bar will slip from your grip. This grip method is also used by many lifters such as powerlifters who are not allowed to lift with lifting straps
