Is the layout produced is the most optimal layout or is it just according to given c/c distance between beams?

I'm curious about how the general workflow looks like when working with these kinds of stuctural projects. Do you have to create a new script every time you start with a new project? Because if that's the case, I don't see any benefits of working with Grasshopper because of the time that I spend just creating the script, I could have finished the whole project.

The scripts shown here are all multi-use components and can be used over and over again for many projects without modification. For example, calculating wind load could be done manually or with a spreadsheet/program and entered into analysis each time but it makes sense to automate the process and save the manual labour. Of course many people use grasshopper for project specific cases as well. As you say though, that can be very time consuming.
