As someone who is struggling with severe PTSD from 2 combat deployments in Iraq, this just hits different. Can't help but let these tears fly.... Losing absolutely everything including a beautiful wife and daughter. Edit: 2 years or so later, I am in a better place mentally. Still have my struggles, but I’ve been getting treatment for PTSD and have been on medication for a while now. Not exactly my ideal life, but I’m plugging along everyday in the right direction. It certainly beats the alternative… I wanted to thank everyone that commented or reached out. I know it’s just the internet, but kindness and empathy go a long way. I feel this song to my very core. I keep trying to love and be loved only to be shoved off the ship and be drowning in hurt and depression. But, sadly, very very few people can love and stand by someone with mental issues and health issues.

I was my moms caregiver when she died in my arms, the day before my sons 18th birthday, of cancer. I fell into a deep depression, along with prior ptsd. 3 months later my husband cheated on me because he said my depression bored him. 3 months after that he left me and took everything. my kids and I literally had nothing to eat even. I turned to drugs, alcohol, partying, and hustling to support us. I got caught. lost my kids. now, I'm 1 yr 1 month 2days sober, have my boys back, buying a home... but I still hate myself. I feel this song deeply, along with a few others of your songs. thank you for putting into words what so many of us can't.
